I need help with my scar
grandmaofone replied to missrossina's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Thanks for your response. May I ask when did you had your surgery. Sent from my SM-J700M using the BariatricPal App i had my sleeve surgery on June 15, 2015-two of my incisions had them sticking out, gallbadder was removed on Dec 29, 2015 -one of my incisions had it sticking out. I had plates and screws removed from my arm and had three stitches come through. Every time I have call and told them about it that is what they have told me. When I had my gallbladder removed, it was about a month later when I saw stitch pop out and when I pulled it to clip it, it actually just came right out. I have been told that I will always have this problem as my body is very sensitive to any foreign objects(hints me having to get the plates and screws removed, my body started to reject them) -
I need help with my scar

I always have them. They are dissolve stitches so you can try and pull it alittle and clip it. That is what the dr always tells me to do. Hope that helps!!! -

If you try doing this in the first few months I doubt you will have enough energy or/and your body will go into starvation mode as you will not be taking on very many calories. I would wait till the doctor clears you for doing so. -
Afraid I will not qualify after 6 month weight loss program
grandmaofone replied to chaneljene831's topic in Insurance & Financing
The dr uses your first weight in to summit to insurance. My was 40 and I lost 5 lbs in the 6 months and I still got approved. Just talk to your dr to make sure this is how they do it. Most dr's office will tell you right away what to do and what not to do, just ask them. My hubby is going through the process now with a different dr and they just told him not to lose anymore weight durning the 6 month process. Good luck to both of you!!!! -

The only time I experienced that was when I was expecting and it started right away and lasted for about 2-3 months. Maybe you need to take a test? -

Am I the only one practically ignored by their surgeons office?
grandmaofone replied to Amurillo04's topic in Insurance & Financing
Maybe try and call the office manger, explain to her what is going on and see if she can help you. I didn't know it had been over a month, that wasn't stated in original post-so I was alittle confused by the time frame you just explained. Hope you get some help from the office manager!!! -
Am I the only one practically ignored by their surgeons office?
grandmaofone replied to Amurillo04's topic in Insurance & Financing
My office gave me a list of things I had to complete to get surgery done. They made this list between the time of my seminar and my first appt. it made it easy to know what I needed to do and when to turn in all the paperwork I had collected from everyone. I hope you have given them a day or two to return your email as I know that sometimes they spend a lot of time on the phone fighting insurance companies. I know I wouldn't like that job!!!! -
Snip it, my dr has told me to do that before. I posted above it has happened with several of my surgeries. If you leave it like above said^^^ it could get infected. That is why they want you to use tweezers and hold it and clip it as close to the skin as possible. It might even just come out when you go to hold it with the tweezers.
-
I have had that happen with several of my surgeries, the last one being my gallbladder surgery. I normally get a hard little bump then it pops through. They are just going to have you come in, and they will pull on it, sometimes it will come out on it own, sometimes they will snip it. Then you will finish healing in a few days. Glad that you are found awesome otherwise!!!!

Gastric sleeve and caring for a toddler
grandmaofone replied to bottomsup!'s topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgery was on Monday came home from Hospital on Wednesday, I run a home daycare and was back on my own on the following Monday. Took awhile to get up and down off the floor, but my one year old grandson also loved to sit on my lap so I just put him on the right side. You should be fine a few days later. My hospital stay was longer because I found out I was allergic to Morphine:( -
I am down 98 pounds, and am struggling to get to 100 by my check up on June 16. I went from a size 24/22 to a size 10 and I actually went and bought a couple of pairs of shorts this weekend. I haven't worn shorts in 25 years!!!!

Feel like I dont care about anything anymore
grandmaofone replied to KittyCathy22's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
when you lose a lot of weight the fat cells also release hormones which cause a very up and down roller coaster effect. Everyone goes through some kind of hormonal changes when losing weight. Just think before you speak and take advantage of the food not tasting good as it can cause you to lose somewhat faster. But exercise can help relief this too, so I recommend getting to the gym and on a treadmill. -
Did anyone's insurance call...
grandmaofone replied to bridgetsband's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My hubbies company provides a service were I talk to a nurse about my health. They are from a company called Red Brick Health and from talking to her I have learned a lot because I can pick topics I want to talk about or need help understanding and in the long run it helped get me through the process and get approval faster. And a bonus I received was a $300 gift card to Target to get whatever I wanted. I saved it and got new clothes after I dropped 80 pounds. It was awesome and helped me a lot. Do not be afraid to help yourself along and get through this faster by talking to her. By the way I only had my BMI going for me to qualify for surgery. -
My doctor said your body can only absorb 30 grams of protein at once. You might want to talk to your dr before relying on one shake to get the majority of your protein.

I just put on shorts for the first time in over 25 years!

Thanks everyone!!! I bought two pair today and two new workout shirts and a very light cover up(because I am always cold in the A/C when we go places). I am finally loving shopping again:) -
I JUST WANT IT
grandmaofone replied to TimeIsMine's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
My dr told me to drink lots and eat right before my appointment and I took my shoes off when they went to do my height. Also I have been told(I didn't) but rolls of quarters weigh a lot and you can have some big pockets:) I had to do a 6 month diet plan, the only thing is I could not gain even an oz. or I would be denied. I lost 5 pounds the whole 6 months and got approved without anything besides my BMI. Good Luck and drink and eat to your hearts desire right before your appointment!! -
Looking in the mirror
grandmaofone replied to Lisa_85's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It has been 10 months and 98 pounds down and I still stop and glance at the mirror when I walk by and say "who is that". I am just now seeing the loss and getting used to it. I am hoping that I still get better with accepting the "new" me in the mirror. Good luck, your mind will eventually get there:) -
I stopped at about 3 weeks out and about 30 pounds down. I use to wake everyone including myself up!!

Tips to loosing the last few pounds
grandmaofone replied to confusedgirl18's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Try to change things up. Like your workout or what your eating, maybe add a protein shake to your pre/post workout routine. That has always got the scales moving for me:) good luck!!! -
My ups and downs from beginning to now
grandmaofone posted a topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I started this journey by contacting my insurance company in December of 2014 and getting the covered doctors info and call and doing research on the different options. I made an appointment with a dr for January 8, 2015. I did my weight in(265) and started the nutrition classes. I finished in May and was on vacation when the dr's office called to set up my surgery. I had no problems getting all requirements done and paperwork turned in and things went smooth throughout this process. I scheduled surgery for over the summer as I run a home daycare and have three teenaged daughters who help out and could take over for a few days. My surgery went great(June 15, 2015) , but after I got really sick and found out I was allergic to morphine. That caused my to have a three day stay in the hospital. After I got morphine out of my system I was great. Followed my dr's plan and started losing weight. Then life happened, my oldest daughter(18 with a 1 y/o) moved out in August, then October came and my middle daughter(16)tried to overdose and was in the hospital for a few days not knowing what would happen, she was then put in a behavioral hospital for about a week, she started doing better and then all the sudden in December told us she needed to go back to the hospital which she said the week of Christmas. As this was going on I started having some pains and found out I needed my gall bladder removed and had surgery on Dec 29 to get it removed. In January my middle daughter finally told us she was raped and we started the process of a restraining order and sexually assault charges. My oldest at this time moved in an apartment with a roommate. She was there for one week in March and had to move because her roommate kicked her and my 1 1/2 yo grandson out, so we had to go load up all her things and put them in storage, and she moved back in. April I thought would be better, but no. My husband decided that I was doing so well that he wanted to look into the surgery. Our insurance had changed on January 1st so we found another doctor and went to the seminar. He waited for them to call and schedule an appointment. They called and scheduled for a few days later. He went in and did the evaluation and with his family history they did an EKG and found out that he had a heart attack last week!!! With all this going on I have done my best with my diet and Exercise that I have been able to do. I fit in working out for the most part(between hospital visits and surgery, it was not easy!!! I started this journey at 265 and A size 24 pants/3XL shirt, surgery weight 240 and today I weight 170. I am 5 pounds away from my goal and last night while waiting for my daughter to get off work, I was walking around Target and decided I would look at the Clarence racks as I have not bought very many clothes for me (since losing all the weight). I don't work out side of the home and didn't want to waste my money so I just wear the same thing all the time. I found a size 10 pair of pants and though why not??? I tried them on and they fit!!!! I was so excited, that was my goal size!!! So with all this being said........... No matter what life brings you have your eye on your goal and you will eventually make it. I have 5 more pounds I want to lose by my one year(June 15) and I know I can do it!!! I hope that with me saying all this and pouring my heart out to everyone shows you no matter what if you want to do this you will be able to!!!! Here is a before picture and a picture of me in the size 10 jeans. -

Strange back pain post op out of nowhere
grandmaofone replied to GracefullyInsane's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
After I lost about 25 pounds I went to the chiropractor and got adjusted and I go about every 20-30 pounds. It helps instantly and I have not had any other issues. I just go when I start to feel the pain start and then it goes away. Hope this helps you:)
