I complained to my family doctor that my knees and feet were killing me. Every time I came to see her I also complained about my weight but she offered nothing to help me other than to say I needed to eat a healthier diet without bothering to ask me what I was eating. Fact was I do eat a very healthy diet... just too much of it. The most I had ever lost on Weight Watchers was 20 pounds and then I gained it all back. I had once lost 65 pounds because I got very depressed and stopped eating regularly... other than a small snack of something every once in a while. I knew from that I needed to find a way to severely restrict my food intake... but being so hungry all the time was making that impossible.
When I saw the orthopedic surgeon regarding my knees and feet, he said I was moving rapidly towards a knee and ankle replacement but he would not do the surgery until I lost 100 pounds. He wrote a note for my Primary Care Doc. Once she read that, she suggested the bariatric surgery and made the referral to Doctor Spangler.
From the moment I met her, I loved her. She flat out said, "This is not your fault and we are going to fix it together."
I want so much to be able to move, walk, get into a canoe, stand through a whole class (I facilitate groups as part of my job), take the dog for a walk without suffering, fit into a chair with arms, be able to wear my engagement ring again, wear professional looking clothes, and avoid knee and ankle surgery...
It would also be nice to wipe my ass like a normal person. Just sayin
