Bad news and decision
Swampdoggie replied to spiritfilled's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@spiritfilled this situation does seem freak worthy! I hope all goes well! -
I've been wondering if there are people who have lost a significant amount of weight but skin stayed taut. If so, how much did you lose and what do you think aided in your saglessness?

Anybody not saggy?
Swampdoggie replied to Swampdoggie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@glitter eyes wow congrats to you on that weight gone. I'm 50. My legs aren't terrible. My belly is going to be saggy, no question. My arms, the part I would love most to be sexy, are flapping all around. My face has drooped. Ah well. Still feel lots better. -

What is your TRUE weight loss goal?
Swampdoggie replied to LipstickLady's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I wanted to feel better. Missed the athlete I once was. Felt bad that my son had such a big, sick mom, that I couldn't hike or camp or go to ballgames etc with my husband, do the stuff we loved to do. Felt like a hypocrite as the ED of a health focused non profit. Have to travel a lot and had begun to hate it. go to conferences and people don't recognize me because I'd become so overweight. Was the outlier in a normal weight family, both my side and my husband's. I picked my goal of 155 because it's just inside normal for 5'8". If I am able to lose more that would be awesome but ill take anything under 170. -
I thought Tuesday was Wednesday, so this has been Friday for me too. Yea! 2 Fridays this week. I love Fridays. Now what was the question? Saw my eye dr this morning and she asked if i'd lost more weight from the last time I saw her (a month ago). Why yes, yes I have! :> I've not had a great week either, @@AlanaRN . I have Lyme-From-Hell and the antibiotics are KILLING me, but at least Im not in pain (just barfing). I feel for you with your kidney stones! I've bagged up my fat clothes but haven't been able to give them up yet. having been thru this once before I'm not quite ready to get rid of them yet, but they do pile up. Good for you guys for slamming the door in the face of recidivism. (One of my problems with lyme is my crappy memory. I can only remember 1 word for everything. Sometimes its big, sometimes its little, but there's a max of 1 for each concept anymore.)

I had myself a little pity party today, woe is me, why can't I kck this damn disease, why am I in so much pain and how can water make me sick? I gotta get back on the straight and narrow so I can continue to strive toward my goal. I've been eating too many calories for the past few days, I HATE to be hungry, but thus is the first time I overdid with naughty foods. Bleh? I need to shake it off!

@@wannaBthinsoon good ideas. I'm having a tough week.indulged in some bad old habits to relieve the nausea but not feeling better. Should have known. Gottamgetmit back together and starting from scratch is a good idea. Thanks!

I think you've hit the nail on the head; not getting wigged out and being able to stay the course is a huge deal for those of us with food issues. Good for you!!

"I don't know why you need surgery, you're not that big."

I'm with @@CanyonBaby on this one. You don't have to explain yourself. I went from band to sleeve and am so happy. It's about quality of life. -
I am also having a terrible time getting enough fluids. I am taking meds that make me nauseated. Water makes it worse and flavored waters have not helped. Today even flat diet ginger ale caused vomiting. I really hate Gatorade, it tastes like flavored sweat to me. I like real lemonade or limeade with a little coconut sugar but can't do that all the time. It's a problem.

I was going to say what@@VSGAnn2014 said but she was more eloquent than me. Also wanted to say that I've had the reverse problem in that I never saw myself as being as big as I'd become. Photos told a different story. I'm not sure what i'll think I look like in time, but one thing I can say for sure is I feel much healthier and that certainly feels good. Somehow I feel smarter too but that may be as much illusion as the mirrors.

What to take to the hospital
Swampdoggie replied to Soontobeskinnyme's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Eye drops. Everything about me was dessicated, was very glad to have known to bring chapstick. Also had a shawl which I used as a neck pillow and to cover my derriere when I walked around. Lastly, wet ones. I liked being able to wash my hands and the table etc when I wanted. -
"You'd be much prettier if you lost weight"
Swampdoggie replied to tiffanymarie6997's topic in Rants & Raves
Today a dear friend and colleague of many years returned to work after a little vacation. He said wow, I didnt even recognize you, you look so much better than you used to. I laughed and he had the grace to flush red to the roots of his hair. I don't think I meant to say that, he said. -

I want to hike again, ski again, not feel hypocritical as the executive director of a health related non profit, camp, garden, roller skate, fit in an airplane seat, wear a sleeveless shirt, and just feel energetic and healthy. On my way.

Did anyone like the band better?
Swampdoggie replied to OldMomOf3's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I don't know that people were misled as much as new information I on has been discovered/revealed over the course of time. I'd been warned that the band was still relativelly new and as such there weren't the types of long term studies that would show it's performance over decades. Yeah @Cleos mom, the surgeon I know was only telling me the info about the autoimmune showijg up as a point of interest. She herself said there was no way to know if it was caused by the band or independent. She only said she'd noticed it. I myself had much worse gerd with the band than with the sleeve and I vomited dai l y. Not the sleeves fault. I just never learned to work with it. -
My Surgery is on Thursday!
Swampdoggie replied to wannaBthinsoon's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Wow thanks! I've had wicked nausea for the past week from my stupid lyme antibiotics. Gonna try the alcohol pads. I stayed home 2 weeks and went pack part time on week three. You will feel better and less tired but it does take a bit. Congrats on arriving at the other side. -
@laurenella82. You look great! Keep it up.

"You'd be much prettier if you lost weight"
Swampdoggie replied to tiffanymarie6997's topic in Rants & Raves
When I was in college and on the upper side of normal a guy in a bar told me if I was his wife I'd have to lose weight. I told him if I was his wife I'd have to effing kill myself. As if!! I didn't even know his name! Presumptuous jackass. -
I have gone crazy with expensive face products, teeth whitening and makeup, which this old tomboy was never into before. When I was young, youth was enough, and when I was fat, I felt there was no sense decorating a gourd. Now that youth is a memory but I'm not so overweight, I find I want to try to look pretty but need the help of products (at which I am inept at using. Thank heavens for YouTube).
