Newbee with an old band.. lol
Swampdoggie replied to bacon's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Hi @bacon. I was banded in 2008 too. Lost about 40 lbs, half of which was from the pre op diet. Also could never get the right fill. Never learned to work with the band. From May 2008 didn't go back until May of 2014. Was sleeved on Jan 19. Am having a poopy day today but overall MUCH better already than with the band. But part of what's better is that I approached this differently, prepared better, got some counseling, using support groups. Are you starting again to work the band? It can definitely be done. I've seen some real band successes. I just wasn't one of them. -
Im feeling cruddy today. Felt awesome on Fri and Sat, got in a lot of activity. Had to start a new malaria medicine for my Lyme co infection yesterday. Its a 3 day zap and its (or something is) making me nauseated and my picc line is really sore and itchy today. I've been on iv for nearly 6 mo. Today I'm so dizzy and light headed and tired. I can't tell if its all these meds or the fact that I'm not eating much or the Lyme itself or I overdid the last couple of days or if my blood pressure meds are wreaking havoc. Thanks for the whine. I guess I'm feeling a little blue today. Just wanting to feel healthy.

Stalled! Grrrrrr....
Swampdoggie replied to jenkbacon's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I totally hear you. I'm just starting to get back to exercising. I have lyme disease and the fatigue has been kicking my butt. I'm hoping that between the food and the increased movement the metabolism will roll. I see other folks who are dropping pounds like raindrops and i want me some of that. -

My surgery was Jan 19. I've only lost seven lbs since. Saw Dr today assured me when I start eating food the lbs will come off. Man I hope so. -
How often do you weigh yourself?
Swampdoggie replied to Jazmundo's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Every morning before showering. But I check inches about once per week- waist, hips, ark and thigh. Then if I'm stalled but losing inches (or parts of inches) I still feel good. -
I get to stay puree in Monday. For the first two days I get one teaspoon of something once every 2 hours interspersed with protein drinks. Then one tablespoon for days 3 and 4. Then a protein drink for breakfast and afternoon snack but food for lunch and dinner. About 4 oz. Calories about 500. On day 42 I get to be 'normal' and although calories are the last part of my NUTs equation, she figures it to be about 750 per day for me. I'm 5'8".

Feeling horrible
Swampdoggie replied to Diane Grimm's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes yes yes that was me at 10 days. I a) made sure I was getting vitamin B12 added some olive oil to broth and c) napped heavy for a few days. I've been feeling better. (Also I was naughty and had a big green olive for each of three days. Olives are fine but I'm still on liquids. I chewed those suckers to death. They were marvelous.) -
Thursday Fun--Does your sleeve have a nickname?

Husband for sale!
Swampdoggie replied to You'reGonnaHearMeRoar's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Have definitely been there. Once the in-laws were to visit and he asked he how to help. I said go downstairs and see what needs to be done.when they arrived nothing had been done. I looked at him blankly and he said, its needs to be vacuumed, dusted and the shoes put in the closet. I said my God Man, I wasnt asking for an inventory! I told my beloved MIL that gd forbid if anything should happen to this husband I wasn't getting another, I was just gonna go get me some SOME. She said, honey I hear you. That said we just celebrated 25 years and I love him to death. But I think everyone deserves someone who loves them best in all the world. If that ain't him, you deserve better. -
Well I've been counting from day Istarted the pre op liquid only. Since surgery itself the loss is three pounds. But yes, you are right and certainly the feeling is different.

Help ..I cant loose the last 4 pounds needed to be approved
Swampdoggie replied to listic2001's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If you're working out try intervals, where you go like a house on fire for a time period (eg a minute) then slow to comfortable, back and forth. When I could work out that's what really got me in shape and I look forward to doing it again. -
For those that have had the revision surgery.....
Swampdoggie replied to LSF's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
@ i never believed there would be a day when I felt'normal' about food or would have no hunger between meals. Maybe its just that i am so newi n and recovering (10 days post op) but I can say that I've never felt like this in my life. The tiniest bit of food (or the food related substances I'm stuck with at this point) stops the hunger and I'm not craving sweets or soda or pizza. Maybe avocado. I'm looking forward to real food and if this is how I'll feel going forward, I am completely confident in my success. Embrace this choice youve made and don't fear it. I'm so happy and grateful that I could do this. -
Yes, agree with @downsizingdiva. Had no success with the band and worried I'll be the sleeve exception and not lose. Its really slow going. I know its early. Probably I have too much time on my hands as I'm recuperating and expending brain power on useless (hopefully needless) worries. This forum is so helpful, seeing what others have gone thru or are going thru now.

10 Obstacles for People Who Need Bariatric Surgery
Swampdoggie replied to Alex Brecher's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I think number three is a biggie and number 5 strongly correlates. Just show some willpower, just move more, just cut out the sugar or cheese or alcohol or whatever. Ugh. That said, I see a difference from when I was banded in 2008 to my revision this month. Whether its due to the AMA classification of obesity as a disease or the recognition by the medical community that for many people the only route to long term success is surgery or the numbers of people undergoing surgery and seeing success or insurance realizing lower expenses from healthier people following WLS, I think there's been a perceptual change. -
For those that have had the revision surgery.....
Swampdoggie replied to LSF's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I was banded in 2008. For the revision was in the hospital for 2 nites. I had no issues. I'm a pain weenie but this was no problem. I have also been nervous that I will fail on this because I had such limited success with the band. But I am older and hopefully a little wiser now and I prepared for this one differently. I was too cavalier before. Now I'm much better prepared and committed to the changes required for success. -
Hungry All The Time....9 weeks post-op
Swampdoggie replied to Gleasonm8602's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hungry people, have you been experiencing hunger, I mean the ferocious type - not the its been a while and I should eat something type, during your whole post op or has it been growing, or did it just change at some point? Are you eating any fat? I've never not been hungry unless I've just eaten a horse, but I've not had that ravenous wow id eat the cat type of hunger since surgery (admittedly a scant week ago but its still a first). I guess I'm wondering how long that honeymoon lasted for you. -
Are you taking any medicines that could affect weight loss?

What NSV are you look foward to?
Swampdoggie replied to Idonerds's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
1. Not feeling squished in an airline seat, not having to use a seatbelt extender 2. Not feeling stupid as the really unhealthy ED of a health related non profit 3. Being able to ski again, garden again, and other active stuff with my FAM 4. Actually feeling good in my skin. 5. Yeah new clothes too. No doubt. 6. Not being stressed about public appearances. My dad passed away this year and my overweight and having to face the old hometown folks at his funeral really made the grief worse. Plus I felt so damn selfish to be worrying about how I looked to people when I wanted to be focused on my dad. So I guess see #4. Am happy to be on the road to better health! -
Energy Level Poll of the recently sleeved
Swampdoggie replied to Swampdoggie's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
So its obvious that our physicians have different regimens re liquids and mushies and food timetables following surgery. Its also clear that some of us are happy about energy levels and some are struggling. I'm in the latter group. I am curious to know whether our regimens or other factors are causing (or aiding and abetting) this. I'd love to hear from the recently sleeved on how you're feeling and what your diet is like. Here' s me: • Sleeved 9 days ago (jan 19) •Energy Level really low. Like stopping midway on staircases with dizziness sometimes. • Regimen 3 weeks liquids then 3 weeks soft then regular • Compliance good, meeting liquid, Protein and carbs goals set • Potential factors age (50s) Lyme disease and babesiosis -

Ha ha, good for you. No one would ever accuse me of being ladylike and I appreciate your cautionary tale. Tail. I imagine this will make some exercise easier. Good on ya.
