  2. You may find that even with a sleeve you have to stay strict on something like Atkins. Personally, I found that to be true. Even with the sleeve, I could not lose without carb restriction. Also, I think you'll find that once you're sleeved you'll see that you were still "overeating". I had the same fears - I had been low-carbing off and on for years and still managed to get past 400 pounds. I need(ed) the restriction to get my portions down to a size that would allow me to lose weight. Doing low carb now is easier now that I don't have a bottomless pit.
  3. I don't understand why people get so "upset" whenever wls is mentioned/offered as a tool to aid in weight loss. "Oh, you don't need that. You just need to....." Or once you mention that you've had wls, you are no longer a credible support to people losing the "natural" way. Overall, I find that people are generally misinformed about the different procedures and supposedly "everyone" they know who had the surgery has either gained all the weight back or died...Everyone is suddenly an expert on the ills of weight loss surgery. Don't they realize that there are other circumstances that could have led to their deaths? Why blame WLS? If it's not what you would do, fine; but why not be supportive if a person decides it's right for them? I think it's interesting that when a person has cancer, no one shames them for getting chemo or radiation. This is exactly why I don't tell everyone. It's like you have the freaking plague. So annoying! Rant over....
  4. I currently weigh more than most people starting weights, and yet I feel so awesome! This is why I don't compare myself to others. What's good for you is not always good for others.

It's crazy because I've lost 150 pounds and I just don't feel like it. I think I'm still in denial about how heavy/large I actually was!

      OutsideMatchInside

I never felt like I was fat, but now I definitely feel smaller. If that makes any sense.

      Daisee68

Yes about denial! I am still shocked at the people that don't recognize me because I just never realized how heavy I was to begin with! Great attitude!! Keep up the great work!

  5. Went to Dunkin Donuts for my iced coffee fix: "Can I please have an iced coffee with cream and sugar free toasted almond?" "No sugar?" "No thanks, I'm sugar free" "Would you like a donut?" Well, damn.........hahahahaha

It sounded funny to you, of course, given surgery. But is it any funnier than all those diet cokes with high-fat, high-cal foods of yore?

    3. her1981

      her1981

I was sugar free before surgery. It's a pretty common thing.

    I'm torn..

One thing is certain, I don't think you'll regret your choice no matter which one you choose. When you're starting over 300 pounds, I feel like it's almost impossible to get to a normal weight without medical intervention. I can't think of anyone that I know personally that was ever that heavy and lost to a normal weight.

What Is Your Brilliant Substitute for a Craving?

I'm a lazy chef. Here's some of the things I eat when I REALLY want something bad. Ice cream = sugar free fudgecicle. Works EVERY time Cheesecake = couple tbsp low fat cream cheese, add some sweetener, little lemon juice, maybe a tbsp of sugar free strawberry jelly. You could add PB2 or some nuts for crunch. pizza = take all the toppings I would put on a pizza and bake them in a ceramic bowl. If I just need a crust, I'll use a low carb mission tortilla Pasta = zucchini can replace pasta in pretty much any dish Sushi = sliced cucumber, shrimp or salmon, avocado, ginger, soy sauce and a drizzle of sesame oil (in a bowl like a salad or individual pieces stacked on slices of cucumber) When I need inspiration, I hit the low carb recipes. I find that they work well for me. I swap or eliminate items as necessary. www.ibreatheimhungry.com http://www.kalynskitchen.com/p/recipes-by-diet-type.html I love tacos, so sometimes I'll buy one or 2 and just eat the insides. I think sometimes we overthink our food choices. I just try to stick with JERF (just eat real food).

    I'm torn..

There is no "need" to revise a sleeve (except for severe gerd or acid reflux). The need is in revising your eating habits. Most people who have gotten sleeve revisions could not control their eating. In either case, if you cannot/do not change your eating habits, it doesn't matter which procedure you get.

@@daniotra I'm not allowed NSAIDs with my sleeve. I suppose every surgeon has a different opinion about using them.

@@hernewselfie I think you are as successful as you want to be with the sleeve or the bypass. Both are tools and you have to decide which tool you want to use to get the job done. I have seen people fail and be successful equally with either tool. After discussing my diet with my surgeon, he thought that the sleeve would be fine for me and I have no regrets. In the short term, the bypass usually produces quicker results, but long term the results are pretty similar. Ultimately, you control how successful you are by your eating and exercise habits. Here are my stats: I'm 5'5 and was sleeved on June 23, 2015. I'm 34 and have also had a baby (yes I believe this makes a difference). HW:435 SW:402 CW:283 Here's a comparison calculator http://www.obesitycoverage.com/gastric-bypass-vs-gastric-sleeve-surgery/ Also, you CAN experience dumping with the sleeve.
  14. I feel like I'm obsessed with food now more than ever. My cravings/appetite has returned, and now I'm constantly obsessing over how I can have what I want but make it fit into my 800 calories per day. Because I'm so limited, I want everything to taste phenomenal. It's so strange. Is this dysfunctional?

  16. Went to the beach today and had a great time. I wasn't self conscious in my swim suit and I didn't sink in the sand as much!

    1. her1981

      her1981

I definitely sank in the sand - while walking. If you don't walk fast enough, you start to sink. At one point I was running, chasing my hubby and daughter. I shocked myself.

  17. I threw my 4 year old daughter a birthday party at a trampoline park yesterday. OMG it was soooooooooo much fun. I was able to jump quite a bit and get myself up when I fell, lol. Being able to do that reminded me of the whole reason I chose the sleeve. It's allowing me the life I want to have with my family. On the other hand, while so much fun and very good exercise, I am completely wiped out! My legs, knees, shoulders, ankles (whole body) hurt. Here's to more fun!!!
  18. I officially weight less than my husband. Only by 1 lb, but I'll take it!!!!

@Christinamo7 he was almost upset about it. I'm not sure why though. I would think a man would want his woman to weigh less.

  21. My social life is mostly the same. My friends and I have been friends for more than 15 years. Some even longer. 3 of my closest friends have gotten or are getting WLS after seeing how great I was doing with it. The only real difference now is when we go out, we order tons less food and don't go to any more seafood buffets, LOL!!!! I'm also more willing to go out more because I don't have anxiety over what to wear, if I'll fit in the space, and if I'll get too tired to keep walking.

  23. Trying some intermittent fasting. My last meal was at 6pm yesterday.

      her1981

Not all day, but from dinner last night (around 6pm last night until 1pm today). My surgeon had suggested early on that I try reducing myself to 2 meals instead of 3 meals per day. I am trying to incorporate it every now and then. I've been doing it all week and I feel like I've regained some of the restriction and I'm less hungry overall.

I love intermittent fasting. It works well for me and is easy to follow. I do the 16/8. When I add the protein first rule and no carbs its even better.

    3. her1981

      her1981

@brittu low carb for life, lol. I just feel better when I'm low carb. I broke the fast with some baked chicken, nothing else. I feel good. :-) When my hunger started picking up, I knew I needed to fast.
