High Fiber diet/how to do it/advice please
marypups posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've struggled with constipation since sleeve surgery 13 months ago. I take Fiber gummies, eat prunes, etc. and have been getting by ok. Today I had my first ever colonoscopy (super fun if you have never done it) and I got a lecture from the doctor about eating a high fiber diet. I had hemorrhoids, apparently, as a result of the last year of lower fiber and higher Protein. I am very good about getting in all my protein every day. I honestly have no idea how to eat a high fiber diet anymore. I used to eat tons of salads and fruit, vegetables, Beans, but now I find that meeting my protein goal takes up most of my room and I have little room for salads and veggies. Even when I order a salad as lunch, I end up mostly eating the chicken off it to get in my protein and then I am full. I do eat a few servings of vegetables a day and sometimes a piece of fruit, but there is just no room for all the servings this doctor was recommending. Does anyone have suggestions about how to eat 100 grams of protein a day and get in lots of fiber too? -
High Fiber diet/how to do it/advice please

These are good. Seems super easy to add the flax or chia seeds to yogurt, also, since i eat a lot of that. Thanks, guys! -
A few months ago I saw an ad somewhere (not sure where) for a high Protein, low carb brownie mix. I ordered it and then forgot about it. Last week I found the mix and made the brownies, which were surprisingly high in protein and low in everything bad. I think it was mostly chocolate Protein powder and you add egg and coconut oil and then bake. They were so delicious--like the mythical perfect food. I decided to freeze them individually and take one out every morning, reheat and have as Breakfast with coffee. So, so good! But now I am almost out of them and I have thrown out the packaging and I cannot for the life of me figure out where I got them. I order from lots of places--Amazon, ebay, etc. so I looked through my old orders on my usual suspects and I just can't see it. I tried googling Protein Brownie mix and I can't find it. It was in a heavy duty plastic bag-like container. You get one batch out of the mix. If anyone knows anything about high protein brownie mixes that might fit the bill, I would be ever so grateful. If not, I may try to spend the rest of my life re-creating the perfect protein brownie. This is the saddest thing ever!!!! Mary

Oh, that would be great!

I go to buffets more often than I like because there are a couple my kids really like and it seems unfair not to allow them to go. I bought little plastic 4 ounce containers with tops (you can get a pack of 500 or so for $5) and I keep some in my purse with me when I go. I fill my plate once, eat some food off it (Protein and veggies) and surreptitiously put the leftovers in the little containers to take home. That way I have at least one more meal (sometimes two) for the price. No one has ever said anything to me about it.

Snacks for Movie Theatre Ideas?
marypups replied to reachbree's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I know you don't need a snack in a two hour movie, and I often go to the movies and do without. But sometimes I want to snack on something when my kids have a big vat of popcorn. So, I bring some spicy roasted chickpeas in a small bag to have something of my own to snack on. I'd rather have those than to start eating all the popcorn. -
I'm doing well but am frustrated by the last few months of loss. I keep losing but so, so slowly now. I started at 265 and am at 190, so a loss of 75 pounds. I'd really like to lose another 30. I had a long stall a few months back and started tracking again. I'd gotten sloppy I think. Now, I'm trying to up my Protein to speed up the loss. But I feel great! I've started running after a long time away and it feels amazing. Mary

Is returning to work after 5 days reasonable?
marypups replied to ld33's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I had surgery on a Thursday and was back in the office Monday. I have a desk job and went home a bit early that Monday afternoon to take a nap. The rest of the week was fine, though, and I worked all week, including some long days. -
I think Quark strawberry is delicious. I've only had that, lemon (ick) and plain (good for cooking in place of sour cream but not for actual eating).

What should I bring to the hospital?
marypups replied to ashleypriv's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I liked having my own robe and pajama bottoms. And I watched a lot of shows on my Ipad. I don't think I really needed or used anything else. I liked having my own robe and pajama bottoms. And I watched a lot of shows on my Ipad. I don't think I really needed or used anything else. -
weight loss stopped at 7 months
marypups replied to akreese02's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
This happened to me too--stalled for about two months. I started tracking again, and upped my Protein from 60 to 80 or more. I did start losing again. I think I'd starting snacking too often, and the tracking helped. -
Hi, all: I've been a relatively slow loser since my surgery, which was 7.5 months ago. I've lost about 60 pounds from 265 to 205-ish. I've been ok with I, not weighing myself very often--concentrating on eating well, drinking a lot, and exercising. I feel great and have started training for a 5k. It's been almost two months, however, since I saw any weight loss. I was patient for a while, embracing the stall, focusing on doing the work, but I'm starting to wonder if this is more than a stall and I'm just not going to lose any more weight unless I reduce my calories significantly. I really don't want to do that because I am getting in my Protein, not eating anything "bad" and feel pretty good. I also enjoy not ever feeling too much hunger. I tend to eat three small meals and two Snacks (usually a yogurt.) I hit at least 80 grams of protein a day. So, my question is: how long until you declare a stall not a stall but rather the end of your weight loss? Thanks! Mary

When is it not a stall?
marypups replied to marypups's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just wanted to tell you all that I've been tracking more carefully and have started losing again. Feeling really great! I could see now that I was snacking too much--nothing bad, but too often. Tracking is sort of magical for keeping you on the right path. Thanks to everyone! -
Self pay and could cry over the amount, couple of questions
marypups replied to mmorris4's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Seriously look at Mexico. I paid $4500 and that included travel. The amount you are quoting is ridiculous. Treatment in Mexico (assuming you do your research) is wonderful and the surgeons are highly skilled. -
When is it not a stall?
marypups replied to marypups's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So, three wonderful things happened today: 1) I weighed myself and had lost 4-5 pounds. 2) I discussed this with my husband and he told me that, about two weeks ago, he had adjusted the scale and added five pounds to it--because it was set to below zero as a starting weight. This was around the time I woke up and had found that I had gained 5 pounds in a day. It seems clear now that I did not actually gain five pounds, but it just looked like that because of the scale adjustment. It took me several weeks to lose those five pounds again. Which means my starting weight was higher than I thought, most likely, given the scale was set to five pounds minus zero, but I've also probably lost a few more pounds than I thought. All in all, it's clear that I was not stuck for a full two months. But I am definitely losing more slowly than most, and I am ok with that as long as I am losing something 3) Best of all, I read CowgirlJane's post and re-committed myself to tracking and staying on course. Thanks for the support, folks! This forum is great. -

Cowgirl Jane, what kind of course correction did you make? And how did you know what to do? -
I ordered them from Amazon and they were much cheaper than that.

I am sorry to say that I don't think I have a secret. From everything, I read, it seems to be a bit hit or miss if you are going to lose hair. I gave up taking Biotin after a couple months. I did hit my Protein goal (80-ish grams a day) pretty consistently, but so did lots of others who lost hair. I take Vitamins every day, but so does everyone. I am a very slow loser, however, and that may be related to not having lost hair, but I really don't know.

NYLux12: I've never made the Protein cake in a cup with almond milk, but I don't see why it would not work fine. It's really just about getting it moist. The critical ingredients are Protein powder and baking powder. I also like adding the sugar free syrup for taste. But I would think any kind of milk would be fine for moistening.

I am almost seven months out and have not noticed any loss at all.

Trader Joe's frozen riced cauliflower
marypups posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am obsessed with this! It is so good. I have made it many different ways, but in less than ten minutes I can turn it into the most amazing macaroni and cheese-like concoction that tastes decadent but is actually not. If anyone else has suggestions about how to use this, I would love to hear them. I am considering a version with some sort of Protein in it. Mary -
please share the microwave in a cup protein recipe
marypups replied to CowgirlJane's topic in Regular foods (stage 4)
I have tried about six or seven flavors--chocolate, vanilla, cookies and cream, and mint chocolate, to list a few. In my opinion, the matrix peanut butter is by far the best. It really takes like peanut butter cookies. I mix it with some milk and sugar free torani caramel or vanilla. It is really great, and I thought quite a few flavors were really terrible. -

I order the sugar free Torani syrup from Amazon. They have lots more flavors than most stores I have been to. -

I make this all the time. My favorite is Peanut Butter with the Matrix powder. But it really is very sensitive to microwave time and amount of moisture, So I encourage you to try again if your first effort is terrible. Initially, I made it cooking for 55 seconds (which someone else recommended) and it tasted like dried death. Now, I have it down and know my microwave only requires 45 seconds, but the one at work is slightly more. It should be a little moist on top. Err on the side of undercooking. Add a dollop of sugar free cool whip and it is wonderful. Some nights it is all I have for dinner and I am totally happy.
