    Need a Healthy Snack

When I want something tasty, I eat Protein cake in a cup. It is delicious, totally not cheating, and gives you 25 grams or so of protein. One scoop Protein powder, a 1/4 teaspoon baking powder, a couple tablespoons each of sugar-free syrup and milk, stir until it is all wet. Microwave in large cup for 45 seconds or so. Delicious tasty warm cake! I have one most days and it feels like a treat, but really is not.

    Meals

Are you having Snacks? It does not seem like you are getting close to enough protein. If that's all you are eating, you cannot be meeting your Protein goals.

    5 months post op

I started at around the same place, am five months out, and have lost the exact same amount of weight. Sometimes it seems like I am doing something wrong, especially when I read the posts of people who lost 71 pounds in two months or something ridiculous. But I feel great and have not lost any hair, which I attribute to my slow loss (even though I have no idea if that's true). I figure eventually we will get where we need to be. Slow and steady wins the race.
  4. I went to Mexico on my own, while my husband stayed with the kids. It was fine. I had a seven hour return travel and it really was not bad. Being in the hospital by myself was fine; it allowed me to nap a lot.

    Can VSG work with coffee?

I have drunk coffee since about a month out; no problems with it at all.

What to bring day of surgery!?!

I brought lots of stuff I did not use. I really loved having my own pajama bottoms, slippers, and my own super soft robe. The nurses helped me get it on with the IV line, and it made me happy and warm.

What can I do with...sweet peppers?

Roasted red pepper Soup with gruyere cheese. Yum!

    Eating too fast - reactions?

In the early days, I threw up quite often if I ate too quickly. It was good feedback about how to slow down. Now, 4 months out, I almost never get sick, because I learned that lesson well.

    Recipe for chickpea salad

I make something similar to this with feta cheese in it. Delicious!
  10. I had a super easy recovery, was sleeved on Thursday and back in the office Monday. That said, my job is basically just sitting in a chair looking at a screen, and I could leave at any time if I got tired. (I did leave a bit early Monday to nap). I'd take those extra two days off if I were you. I assume teaching kids is hard work and you can't just sit and rest. Also, you will need to be sipping liquid all the time, and that takes a surprising amount of energy. Good luck! Mary

    New job and surgery timing

I would say go for it. I only missed a couple days of work. It would be a shame to miss out on a great opportunity at work for short-term challenge of recovery.
  12. If you have not yet paid them money, why not find a doctor in Mexico? You can easily find someone who will provide top notch surgical and customer service for something like a quarter of the price. I think you would be very impressed with the quality of the experience there.
  13. I like costco. They have individual 4 oz. containers of chicken salad that I love (140 calories and 14 grams of protein) for lunch. I also buy individual containers of hummus, bags of individually wrapped mozzarella cheeses, and containers of various soups (each container provides three meals, more or less).

Cake for lunch! What? You bet I do!

This has totally changed my life! I stopped drinking Protein drinks a couple months ago (because I could no longer stomach them) and I have been struggling with my protein goals. But I can easily eat this once or twice a day. Yum! Thank you.
  15. Has anyone tried any of the high Protein pastas? I bought some black bean Pasta, and it says that it has 25 grams of protein for two ounces. I am three months out and would love a small serving of pasta. Is this worth doing, or is this way madness?

    Stool softener

I have used ExLax a few times and find it works miraculously. I have read some comments that suggests it is not good for you to use it (and I would like to understand that) but it works when nothing else does. Plus, the chocolate version is surprisingly yummy.

    Headaches

Now, three months out, I take ibuprofen for headaches. I only get them very occasionally, and I was old it is ok if it is occasional. I find it works much better than Tylenol for me. I've taken it for various things a couple times with no ill effect.
  18. You could also do a layered bean dip--Beans, cheese, salsa, sourcream. But you would have the same issue with chips.
  19. I actually had to do this exact thing at the same, and I brought guac and chips. I just served myself some guac on a little plate and ate it with a fork. Now (three months out) I eat guac with cucumber slices, and I have also tried Protein chips, but you cannot eat any of those things yet. Plain guacamole really is awesome!

    High Protein Pasta

I hate, hate, hate zuchinni, but I just ordered the veggetti. We shall see...

    High Protein Pasta

I have not tried it yet. It's been sitting on the shelf for a few weeks while I just stare at it. I will report back after I try it--perhaps this weekend.

    Driving First Week

I stopped painkillers on day three and was driving by day five (with day one being surgery day).
  23. I make an amazing low carb crust that works for cheesecake or pie by putting pecans (or other nuts) melted butter and some splenda into a food processor. After it becomes a praline-flavored delicious mush, spread it into the bottom of the pan, add the cheesecake or pie mix and bake. Better than regular crust, I promise!
  24. I was sleeved in July and have lost around 32 pounds--enough so some of my clothes are too big. I have closets and closets full of clothes in every size from 12 to 20. In recent years, the 20s were tight but I refused to buy new clothes and so I bought a lot of fairly ugly, stretchy clothes. Today I got rid of: all clothes that are too big (not that many); lots of clothes that are just sort of frumpy and clearly the product of my trying to hide in clothes; any summer clothes that currently fit. The latter was my absolute confidence that by the next time it is time to wear summer clothes (9 months from now) the clothes that fit now will be too big, so it's not worth packing and storing them for the winter. This felt like an act of liberation--a sense of total confidence that I can do this. I kept only clothes that: 1) are beautiful; and 2) fit me now or are too small. I got rid of seven bags of clothes. It felt great. I love this sleeve. I am a slow loser, and that's ok. I know I will get there, and it feels great. I don't need loads of huge, stretchy clothes that are unattractive.
  25. I just made Protein balls with Peanut Butter, protein powder and sf torani syrup last night. I made a bunch of them and put them in the freezer. They are delicious and one was pretty filling.
