For one night: Loose clothes to go home in. Something to read (such as magazines, which you can just pick up and put down in between walking, sipping, sleeping, walking sipping) Gas-x strips Soap, toothpaste and toothbrush. Nightwear/underwear I stayed 3 nights and 4 days and so in addition I took and found helpful: Kindle Face wipes Lip Balm Phone and charger Shampoo and body wash 3 x nightwear I spent most of the time in between the walking etc either in bed sleeping or watching tv/reading or being checked over by the health professionals, especially in the first day. My husband brought a pillow to put over my tummy so the seat belt didn't dig in for the drive home. Otherwise the hospital provided everything else I wanted. Kate

Nice one lol... Enjoy the coffee! -
I really did hate ready-made Protein drinks, they were too sickly for me. However I love powered flavoured Protein Drinks and make them with Water rather than milk, as I find milk with it too sweet. I love Optimum Nutrition Gold Standard 100% Whey (whatever flavour) which has 24 g protein. 3 gr carbs, 1g sugar per serving. I also love syntax nector which is more like a drink rather than a shake. Someone posted a long list of protein drinks recipes recently. Try searching for it, it was over the past month or so. Hope it gets easier for you soon!! Kate

Yayyyyyyyyy Congratulations

I have noticed that a few people here have 2 Snacks during the day which consist of Protein shakes/drinks in addition to their three meals. Some have a Protein shake every day for Breakfast to keep their protein up (I think this is something I will do too, just to ensure that I get enough in, until I can try to cover all protein with food, if I can). Some don't have any at all and get all their protein from their meals. Its early day's for you at the moment. Just do what works for you, in order for you to remain healthy and happy. Kate

Wine and Coffee (black drip coffee, NOT lattes, frapps, etc)
_Kate_ replied to Jim in Utah's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I did have decaffeinated tea on day 2 and since then a small one each morning, apparently it settles my stomach. I know you didn't mention tea but I am English - Enough said As for wine, I will try a very small glass on Christmas day and not before. Although I will be happy not drinking alcohol again, I am soooooooo glad I can still have decaff tea. -
Prayers will be sent Jenifer, with my very best wishes in such difficult circumstances. I can't imagine what you are both going through and for others to add drama at this time is astounding. I do believe in the words, "What goes around comes around" !! Hugs Kate

Best Wishes to everyone having the surgery next week and speedy recovery. You will all do great!!

Does one day really matter and by that I mean taking Tuesday as the first day? Go by how you feel.
-
Why not wait and see how you feel nearer the time. No one, even yourself can predict how you will feel 10 days out.

Stage 2 of food? What has your NUT said? Also go by how you feel. I was sleeved the evening of 26/07 and could be on pureed now but I don't feel ready and I am happy to do another week until I feel my stomach is ready. Everyone is different and do things differently. Just make sure you feel it's right for YOU

@maregal Congratulations on nearly being there! Also wishing you a speedy recovery and as Babs said, walk walk walk sip sip sip then walk some more... in between sleeping that is! Please let us know how everything goes

Don't spend too much.. You will need to be buying more soon You are really inspirational .. Well Done !! -
Everything is very tender at the moment but its so important to keep hydrated and get your Protein in to enable your body to heal. I am still finding it painful at times to drink, so when i get to that stage after 3 or 4 sips, I stop. Wait a minutes then get back to sipping. Having a very short break does help, for me at least!. Have you tried different drinks? My surgeon suggested that I have a warm decaffeinated tea first thing in the morning as I wasn't tolerating cold or room temp Water first thing. It really has helped, it settles my stomach before I have my Protein shake for Breakfast. Just a thought. I hope you feel better soon- it won't be forever !!

Oh please do @@pippinleicester, it’s good to get a balanced idea as to what might happen before, during and after WLS I'm still shocked to hear some of the Americans have surgery, be out hours later, then fly or drive home, sometimes both, taking hours and hours to get home. I know for a fact, I couldn't have done that in the first day I went out this morning, had my nails done, went for a walk and a bit of shopping and feel tip top. Still full of gas though but in the scheme of things, that's a walk in the park. Kate

Diagnosed with Hashimotos. Anyone else have this?
_Kate_ replied to 2bfit's topic in WLS Veteran's Forum
I could type a long story here, 22 years worth but won't, I'd bore you all to death lol. I was diagnosed with a severe form of Hashimoto's Thyroiditis when I was living in Canada. I returned to England 6 months after being diagnosed. After never feeling right for about 18 years and always being told, " BUT YOUR BLOOD TEST SAYS YOU'RE FINE" I decided to research till I knew more then the Doctor (not endocrinologist) and insisted over a period of about a year, that I was given a private prescription for Erfa Thyroid and after a few weeks of taking them everything changed. I came off Prozac, was able to lose weight (but not keep it off, had lots more energy) and I felt tons better. It wasn't easy getting the go ahead from the Doctor's. A lot in England are very anti natural thyroid.. So then I felt better but still had the weight so hence the sleeve. I am only a week out but I have no regrets. @@Sleeveless in seattle. Do you get your med's from costco without a prescription and how many do you get for $25? Kate -
Hello from a newbie...
_Kate_ replied to Julia Sanchez's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I really do feel for you, the last 10 months must have been so very difficult. However I commend your courage to carry on and to want good health, in a time when you are still grieving for your husband. This in itself is a form of bereavement, it’s the loss of food but as Inner Surfer Girl said, it won't be forever. Are there any WLS support groups in your area you could attend? Can your Doctor help? I do feel coming here and chatting, making friends and when needed venting, would really help you. I wish you all the very best and send a hug to you. You're not alone. Kate -
Gah! I hate meal replacement shakes!
_Kate_ replied to KiwiMum's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
By Meal Replacement drinks do you mean ready made drinks? I was really concerned that I would hate the Protein drinks too post op but love them. Can your NUT suggest anything else? On a side note, great weight loss !! Congratulations
