5 week post op before and after
_Kate_ replied to Coachthex32's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Looking good !! Congratulations. Keep up the good work Kate -
Do you order a starter when you are out or a main meal? I order a starter, halve it, pop it into a tupperware container and eat the rest. That way I can finish the rest later in the day. Kate

Does taking Biotin before surgery reduce hair loss?
_Kate_ replied to char3672's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@char3672 Yes it is... They have a whole range of stuff too. Kate -
It took me a good 6 weeks to feel as if I had any energy but everyone is different. I went back to work at 5 weeks and was in bed by 6pm every night, exhausted. Yet, some here go back to work after a week and are fine. You really need to be sipping all day long. Protein shakes, Protein drinks etc. How long are you on fluids for? You will feel much better once you are eating 'real' foods. Keep siping and congratulations! Kate

I am sure that your surgeon will give you a meal plan to follow (or the NUT in your team) or at least they should do. Being so tired is awful, I remember it so well, so have sympathy with you! My own personal view is that mashed potatoes are not the best thingto eat at this stage (17 months out I still don't eat potatoes). You need protein first, to help you heal and fill you up. Things such as greek yogurt, soft scambled eggs, soups blended with protein, protein shakes, protein puddings etc. However its best to follow your surgeons plan. Congratulations on the surgery! Kate

Pre-op diet cheat and feelings of panic
_Kate_ replied to llism's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I think this is a little more complicated than just getting on with it. Have you spoken to your therapist about having WLS? When are you due to have the surgery? One bit of personal advice though, don't focus on what you can't do - focus on what you CAN do. Really wish you the very best and please come here to vent so we can support you Kate -

advice for beginners
_Kate_ replied to MsHeather9785's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
As Berry78 said, this is a good time to research the sleve surgery and what you need to do both pre and post op. The books Alex B has are a great starting point and there are lots of YouTube videos from both surgeons and people who have been through the surgery themselves. One thing I would say is, you mentioned you want to lose 100 lllbs by June. Don't set yourself up for failure, just in case you lose less. Concentraite on being much healthier by June. -
advice for beginners
_Kate_ replied to MsHeather9785's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
First of all congratulations on deciding to go with the sleve. As for the questions, it would be best asking your surgeon at the first consult as you should be following his guidelines with regards to questions 2,4,and 5. You will get a range of answers here but I will answer the few that I can from my own experience. 1) It really depends on how long you are staying in for but the things I took and used were: Change of clothes for going home (baggy dress as I couldnt stand anything round my tummy) Toiletries/hair brush GasX strips Lip balm (dont use Vasaline if you are on oxygen after the surgery!!) Mobile and charger Ipad/kindle and charger Some magazines 3 nightdresses (I stayed in 5 nights) For the drive home, my husband brought a pillow so I could put the seat belt round it. 2) I can but never 6oz.. Most I have eaten at 17 months out is 4 oz Protein and tiny bit of veg. 3) Biotin didnt do a thing for me (I used it for the first 12 months) and now I use Nioxin thickening shampoo which has made a heck of a difference to how my hair looks. I wasted a LOT of money. As for vitamins, your surgeon will advise on these. I take a multi Vitamin, Vit D, Vit K, Calcium and Vit C (my own choice as I have just had skin surgery) Hope the first consult goes well and you get your questions answered !! Kate -
Anyone else doing a 5 wk liquid diet?
_Kate_ replied to nfreeman610's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Some people get a longer presurgery diet. Depends on BMI, preexisting conditions, etc. Sent from my SM-N920R4 using the BariatricPal App Seems a hell of a long time to just be on liquids although I know all surgeons do things different. I just wanted to know if was just liquids, as some add a main meal of protein and veg. I did 18 days and that was so difficult at times. I can't imagine 5 weeks! Best of luck to you both Kate -

Protein shakes liquid or food?
_Kate_ replied to augustgirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Liquids don't stay in your stomach for any amount of time once you are fully healed post-op. They pass straight through in a matter of seconds. Protein, as a nutrient satiates hunger for longer than carbs, meaning you won't be hungry as soon after ingesting it. But protein shakes don't actually fill your stomach. So drinking immediately afterward won't "dilute" the protein. A protein shake is about 90% Water as it is.... Just this ^^^ Kate -

I had chewable Vitamins for the first few months. I tried regular ones at 3 months but was sick after taking them and it put me off. Since 9 months I have been taking regular tablets and Im fine with it. Thyroxine, I took sublingualy, which I already did pre-op. My BP tablets and Prozac - I didn't take for the first week. After that I used to break the capsule and add them to soup/food when I was cleared to have them. Kate

Only 10 days post op and already getting discourged
_Kate_ replied to m12345's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It's not forever and once you are on puree it will be so much better. I used to hang an outfit which I really wanted to get into, on the outside of the wardrobe in my bedroom. It was the first thing I saw in the morning and the last thing at night. That really kept me focused. I was also encouraged daily, by knowing that my body was easier to lugg around. My knees stopped hurting, my back stopped aching and I was able to get up and down stairs without being out of breath. Keep at it! Kate -
During the work week: 7am: Protein latte 10am: Greek yogurt/eggs/ or berries/nuts 1pm: lunch - usually out and will be either chicken or fish with salad or veg 4pm: Some nuts/fruit or a protein bar/avocado/baby bel/eggs or the like 8pm: Chicken/fish/pork with veg The Snacks are based on what I am doing work wise so can change. At the weekends I tend to just eat 3 meals and one snack and my meals are spread out more. Kate
