Will we ever be able to drink liquids like we use to?
_Kate_ replied to Lovelyladybee's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I acually asked Martha about the comment she made about the fact that if you gulp fluids you will be a fast eater? Thats a very black and white comment and I was just wondering where is the evidence is to back that up? Just thought I would clarify that. -
Thank you blizair09 for answering. I have been following this for a week and have found it very easy although a bit sickly with all the fats. I might continue for another week and re-assess. Kate

I would steer clear of bread, crackers, rice, pasta etc... they do not add anyting other than empty calories and zero nutrition. Focus on protein first, especially now, when you are maintaining it might be a different issue. Congratulations on the surgery! Kate

Goodness, I can't even imagine the stress you have been through and the anger you must feel. Sending you best wishes and a virtual hug! -

My surgeon said that to me too ShineyLady. I like the fact its still me, just tidied up a lot lol

I wouldnt worry about being able to drink easily. Most people struggle with fluids initially, so at least youre not going to have dehydration! Water and thin fluids go straight through the stomach. Congrats on the surgery Kate

Must haves to pack for Hospital bag, please help!

A pillow for the drive home to put over your tummy, underneath the seat belt. Best wishes for the surgery and speedy recovery! Kate -
My husband made me home made soups and we froze them in large ice cube trays. That and protein drinks were my staple foods once i was on full liquids. Don't buy too far ahead as your tastes may change. Best wishes for the surgery

Will we ever be able to drink liquids like we use to?
_Kate_ replied to Lovelyladybee's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was able to drink quite fast withing a couple of weeks. I could drink a whole pint of water at once. Whats the evidence which states if you are a fast drinker you will eat fast too? Gulping down water/tea/coffee/insert drink here, didn't resut in me having to have a VSG. Eating too much did. -
Whohooooooooo congratulations. Treat yourself to something nice as a reward! Kate

They don't at all but then I make sure I only have one a day and have more Water just in case. I wouldn't eat any others bars after having those. The white chocolate ones are nice too. Their flapjack bars are too carb heavy for me. I dont have bars a lot, maybe one or two a month when really needed.

Bars are so handy to have when you are out and about. I took 2 boxes to Cuba, when I was 5 months out, in case I couldn't get anything I liked, or felt I could stomach. I have Carb Killa Caramel Chaos and they are lovely. The bars can be quite addictive so I tend to buy them when I need them and not have them in the house. When you can have them, remember to drink more fluids! Kate

I would wait a year and then decide not to bother. Just not worth it. Kate

Since losing weight have you been treaded differently?
_Kate_ replied to aking15's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I wouldn't say I have been treated differently at all or maybe I just havent noticed it. I have a very happy disposition and when I decided to have the surgery, friends woud say that they never really saw past my smile, so the 'package' wasn't an issue and it hasnt changed how they treat me now. As for skinny shop assistants, well as long as you have the money to buy in their shop, again - I havent had issues. Maybe I am just lucky as I have heard horror stories from other people about shop assistans being rude. As for my marriage, its the same as it was before. Near enough perfect What has changed is my attitude to me. I don't wear black to events, I don't stand in corners trying to hide. I have started horse riding again, which I havent done for such a long time. I have faith that I really do deserve that dress which costs a lot and I don't need to look at the sale rails all the times now hoping something cheap will just 'do'. My kids are all adults, so its time for me now. I have earn't it. Kate -
7-8 times a day ... bliss !

You are down as pre op but I guess you have had the surgery. How far out are you? Are you sipping or gulping Water? What food phse are you on? Have you tried cold water, room temp water, hot water?
-
3 meals a day at 8 weeks? Im still on 5 or 6 meals a day at 18 months!! I would re-think that one. Kate
-
Will you be having bariatric surgery after a TT or before? Kate
-
Ouch! Hope you get the go ahead if thats what you want.

Both have been fine. I have some necrosis but the hospital have been great and are dealing with it at the moment. I had quite a lot done at once, that and my age meant that I didn't bounch back as easy as if I were in my 20's.

It depends what outcome you want. What size are you now, what size do you want to be?
