What Are You Looking Forward to in Spring?
_Kate_ replied to Alex Brecher's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Walking the dog for longer. Wearing my shorter skirts. Being outdoors more. Doing more sporty activities outdoors. -
Not Tracking your food is a big mistake!
_Kate_ replied to erica_ozzy73's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
As I said in the post following the one you quoted. Oh i did track for the first year, learnt about nutrition and set myself up for healthy food choices for the future. I now follow more of a mindful way of eating. I am certainly not being nit picky about everything which goes past my lips every day of the year and that's MY choice and it works for me. What works for one won't for another so we cannot predict things will work for everyone the same way. I don't eat a poor 'diet'. I am VERY strict as to what I eat but I am comfortable not noting it all down. I eat clean and I have maintained lower than my goal weight for a while. My surgeon gave me a predicted goal of 160 lol yet here I am at 135. So it's working for ME. If I start putting weight on, then maybe I will need to think of other things to stay accountable. See you in 3 years and congratulations on your success so far. Kate -
Not Tracking your food is a big mistake!
_Kate_ replied to erica_ozzy73's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I would also like to add that pre surgery I would go out a lot for meals, I have a very sociable job, a family who go out a lot together and a good bunch of friends. I still go out a lot now I am maintaining. I don't want to be sat with friends having a great night thinking, omg I can't weigh the food and track. I am glad I have learnt an internal strategy which allows me to scan a plate of food and be secure in the knowledge that I will be okay. Protein first a little veg afterwards, no crap carbs. I am not saying everyone can do that but I was obsessive about food before the VSG and there's not a cat in hells chance I will be like that now. -

I don't often track anymore. I would be obsessive about it and I really don't want that. I only track protein and carbs anyway, never calories. Monday to Friday I stick to the same food daily so I know I am okay. I don't deviate and if on the rare occasion I do, that's a day that I will track. At the weekends in the winter, we tend to have pot meals, so with hubby and a houseful of sons, I would find it hard to determine the micro's of a meal. People can be successful in a million different ways. To say you won't succeed unless you track is a comment I find a little hard to swallow. -
Congratulations and. Speedy Recovery

Plastic Surgery After Weight Loss - some advice please
_Kate_ replied to BigDog Bryan's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Are you going to wait until you are at goal for plastics? The scar is usually just above the pubic area and recovery depends on the person etc etc. I have known people go back to work after a week and some not until 10 weeks or more. Congrats on the weight loss so far! Kate -
Has anyone tried high fat low carb eating? Were you sucessful? What were the pitfalls/negitive aspects of it? Did you do it for a long time or for a 'short fix'? What did you like about it? Did your medication change because of it? Kate

6 months post op...CAN'T EAT!!!
_Kate_ replied to feelfatnomore's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If only for nutrition and stating you are fine with drinking, has your surgeon suggested making juices. I am not saying for a moment to stop trying with food but just to get some nourishment in. Also stick with protein drinks if you can. Go back to what you could last tolerate... purée or soft foods. I really feel for you and hope you manage to resolve this soon. Kate -
That made me chuckle !!

@DanceMomOf2 A good set of scales and measuring cups 😊 If you meant how much and when you should go by the guidelines of your team. Congratulations !!

Eighteen months out and can hardly see them. They are usually covered after surgery anyway so I wouldn't even bother. Kate

Measuring food early on is so important however you still need to learn how to read your body and stop eating before you are 'full'. Remember to be sated rather than full. I don't measure food anymore as I am maintaining but I DO know when to stop.

I couldn't have managed without my riser recliner and commode. Made life so much easier. Best wishes for the surgery! kate

@TheRealMeIsHere! Keep in touch and let me know how you get on! Kate

Maintaining iS tough and recently I started a HFLC eating plan. I have three meals a day compared to the three and two snacks I did have and I feel satisfied for longer. It's only been a ten days but my skin has really improved from being very dry to what I would consider normal and healthy. I haven't weighed myself as I am not trying it for weight loss rather a new way to maintain. Kate

What foods and spices can you no longer tolerate post-surgery?
_Kate_ replied to mattyl88's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Anything deep fried or fatty... I would spend time with the porcelain god if either touched my lips Kate -
@vamping Thank you ?

I had my VSG on 23rd July 2015 and had plastics on 9th Jan 2017 so 17/18 months. I wanted to be maintaining for a while before the second surgery.

I had five things done at once which was doable as long as I really understood that recovery would take longer. I had them all done at the same time so I wouldn't have to keep taking time off work, it also saved me over £7,000. I had the surgery on 9th January and go back to work in 2 weeks. I had an infection which is healing well now or I would have been back to work after 6 weeks. it's no stroll in the park but SO worth it. Kate

I was exhausted for the first 6 weeks yet some are back to work less than a week after surgery. Listen to your body and rest when it's telling you to. Your energy will come back eventually ? Congratulations on the surgery! Kate

I tried all sorts and the only thing that really works with me is dulcolax. I still use it now on and off. Hope you get 'relief' soon ! Kate

How far out are you? Are you near your goal?

Vitamins and taking pills
_Kate_ replied to AstroGuy's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You could look at Patches for the first few months but need to check this is okay with your team. -

How soon after surgery did you have sex?
_Kate_ replied to JerseyJules's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
We waited 2 weeks... which is a long time for us!
