    Slow losers Club

Yeah i weighed in this morning and lost a big fat nothing this week. Sigh. I think i'm just going to have to try my best to distract myself from thinking about it somehow and just hope things pick up.

    Newbie

Sometimes dairy and sugar cause issues very early on so things like protein shakes custard yogurt and apple sa use. I was like that. I then blended chicken and veg soup to a thin consistency and that was fine. Obviously you are best to follow your Dr. But just providing and idea it could be your sleeve doesn't like the above I mentioned like mine at first. All the best.

    Diet & Exercise Regimen

You've lost more than me and I was done on th 18th. To be honest I've lost more weight dieting alone. Anyhow my day today consisted of a optifast meal replacement bar as I can't tolerate shakes. Half an egg and a slice of ham for lunch and dinner was a about 4 table spoons if chicken curry a healthy one. Prob 500 call all up. Before I discovered those bars I was on about 350 cals

Losing 85% of your stomach 4ever

My surgeon told me (he's in his 40s I think) that in the nursing home when he is old people will be amazed he spent his life cutting out stomachs because medicine would have progressed by then - but he said until that happens he's still in work - and i don't intend to wait 10-30 years until viable alternatives are available!
  5. fear - that they will make my stomach too big and it won't work. worst memory - the gas pains they were worst than i expected and lasted longer.
  6. yeah i am learning this also, my sleeve I am learning fast can tolerate pretty much anything just a month out (minus a few dairy issues) as i have been experimenting with what I can tolerate. (I am allowed to try new things progressing from soft stage to whatever i an handle now) So at this early stage I am making the whole "just because i can, doesn't mean i should" be my new motto. I am making my own little rules for myself which are mostly compliant with my NUT's programme (which is fairly relaxed compared to many) I have found myself taking a bite or two in between meals of something I fancy - which I am putting a stop to even if it's with my calorie and other guidelines that type of thing for me is a slippery slope! I think while we are in the early days (first 1-3 months) we will learn a lot about ourselves and our old eating habits and trying to get the news ones fully established before some of the hunger etc returns.
  7. Hi all I'm a daily weigher. In the past when dieting it kept me motivated even on stalls made we push harder to shift it. Now however I think I might need to change this relationship. I can't push harder than 300-400 cals a day as all I can manage and I am doing things by the book. But after 2.5 weeks weight loss stalled and it's not picked up much in 10 days. Lose a bit n gain in back etc. I expected a stall but not this long. It's disheartening to say the least considering I'm sticking to the rules and weighing myself can't motivate me to do anything more than I am already. So I am going to hand over the scales to my husband and not weigh in for a few weeks and just hope I see movement in that time! This is going to be really hard for me as I've always done this and track my weight daily. Hope my nerves can cope with it! Any one else given up their daily scales habit - how did it go??

    Phentermine - Thoughts?

Great first few weeks then ended up with heart issues. Wouldn't go there again.
  11. 1) I didn't expect to have bad dumping syndrome with anything dairy or anything with sugar in it like Soy milk etc - ruled out all my planned ways of getting Protein in in the early days. 2) Didn't realize the gas pains would be so bad and take a week to go away. 3) that by week 3 i felt 100% better and well and energized 4) despite the dumping i have a sleeve of steal I can handle chicken already (with my NUTs and surgeons blessing) 5) that i totally went of plain cold Water and now drink mostly fruit teas and warm light blackcurrant flavored water.
  12. Well I am 3 weeks out - early days I know, but I am one of the unlucky/lucky? ones with full on dumping. It first started with anything dairy - so lactose intolerant i thought - but i was on the toilet with the worst cramps and runs within 10-20 minutes of eating/drinking anything with lactose in it. Then can the fructose dumping - on my 3 week puree stage on my allowed list was apple/fruit puree with no added sugar - same thing 10-15 minutes later on the loo flushing it all out (Sorry for the too much info) And today just to confirm things i had a single bite of high cocoa chocolate (don't flame me it was for the experiment and wouldn't damage my sleeve) and sure enough within 15 minutes same thing.... So it looks like I am having to go just about totally sugar free - one side of me is sad I want cheese and sour cream as a condiments for my Proteins (yes even these make me dump :0( ), but on the other side I am kind of happy it's forcing me to stay away from sugars. Considering how well/fast I am healing I need the extra help on making right choices early on. For anyone else who has had fairly extreme dumping like this how long did it last? Did you ever "grow" out of it or has it stayed there long term? Were you able to tolerate sugar free alternatives or did they bring about their own problems? Thanks for your advise!

    Halloween Challenge!

i'm in - oh my first challenge how exciting! I will post start weight on the day and goal weight is 190lb
  14. at just over 3 weeks out i am on soft foods, so an average meal would be egg salad on a crusket light cracker nearly a whole egg, so about 90 cal a meal. volume wise that's maybe more than most can handle at this point but my surgeon and NUT very happy at my progress and say i'm healing up very fast. But realistically calorie wise only hitting the 300 a day mark. sometimes upto 400. My team aren't as obsessed with very high Protein numbers and want me to aim for 50gms a day (I can't do protein powers or dairy so have to manager with real food). i'm only half of that at the minute but they are happy for me to work my up over the next few weeks. I feel well, no pain, more energy etc. oh yes also on the 3 week stall on day 6 or 7, saw a slight movement down this morning - but i'm not worried. it's typical and i'll take it on the chin.

    Not loosing weight! Help!

I'm surprised so many people are saying "only" lost 15lb in a matter of weeks! - I too have lost 15lb - and am in a week long stall (i was sleeved 8/18) but i don't think of it as 'only' I think of it in a positive way! I've lost 15lb freakin' lb Yay for me (and thanks to my surgeon!)
  16. Hi Everyone, I' 3 weeks out and i'm managing 1 egg and about 120 grams of tinned tuna a day (with a 50 cals worth of cruksit and 1 teaspoon of light mayo at each 'meal' - yes these are allowed on my plan but these but don't contain much protein) I can't tolerate Protein shakes they make me dump (tried whey normal, whey isolate and pea isolate with various milk, lactose free milk, soy milk etc) I'm barely managing 25-30 grams of protein a day, I do see my NUT later this week so I'm hoping to get some answers there. But i was so relying in these early months on a good Protein shake or two a day to hit those levels but now I can't I'm a bit lost | - Any tips??

    Inverted gastric sleeve

Mine is half inverted. The other half is stitched to nearby structures to keep in place.ive healed very fast and apart from anything with any type of sugar it apears to be made of steal. Very happy so far.

    Really strange physical reaction!

sounds like dehydration causing a drop in blood pressure - i had that issue now and again pre op and it's worst post op - make sure you get your fluids in and electrolytes if needed.
  20. I am also in the 3 week stall at the minute so I don't know how/if things will pick up after this, it was going so well the first 2.5 weeks!
  21. I had the sleeve. But ended up one if the few that gets dumping syndrome which is more common with bypass. Yeah greek yorghurt contains dairy sugars which make me dump i.e. Extreme runs within 15 minutes. So far can eat meat veg and crackers. I guess with my NUTs blessing I will have to up to four or five mini meals rather than 3 to get the Protein in. I will try more fish and tinned chicken. Thanks for your replies!
  22. Yes I am on the soft food stage (my surgeons plan is fairly progressive) unfortunately both of those have lactose in and also make me dump - pretty much anything dairy is out thanks for responding though!!
  23. you are only 3 days out! II don't think anyone expects you to get up to your full Protein by then! I'm 3 weeks out and still not managing - fluids is certainly much better than 3 days out but hope in a week or so to be hitting my 60-70gm of Protein. You will get there just keep at it as the swelling goes down inside it gets easier and easier
