Sorry for the vagueness.
It's a line from a Kenny Chesney song.
He's talking about a backwoods church revival....where they are handling snakes.

Here's the thing......you are losing the weight and hope to better enjoy life and living. Hopefully you've added exercise to your daily regimen. Occasional drinks are fine....be mindful of what you are having as mixers in those drinks, though. A good bartender can help ensure you are not getting sugary mess. Vodka and light mixer. Sip not pound down. All things in moderation. Enjoy yourself yet keep on the scale and ensure that you are on track with your overall goals and making progress.

How long is recovery after surgery?
Dub replied to OhHeyMarina's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I took 3 weeks but had an abdominal hernia repair done at same time as sleeve. Had I just had the sleeve....then a week would have been fine. -
Keep on killing it, man !! You are doing great.

When did other people start to get hungry again?
Dub replied to ryan_86's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
13 months post op. The ONLY time I get "hungry" is when I eat sugary carbs....or bread type stuff....crackers.....etc. I'll get "hungry" 30 mins later and want to have more. As long as I eat meats, fowl, greens, vegetables and etc then I'm never hungry. I've even returned to having occasional fresh fruit (apples, grapes and other) and not had those cravings. -
Well said !!!!!

Time to Brag: Share Your Recent Accomplishments!
Dub replied to Alex Brecher's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
12.5 months post op. Off all prescription meds save a new anti-inflammatory I started on Thursday. Received lab work results from one year appointment. Pretty much a glowing report card. Cholesterol, blood pressure and etc all in excellent shape. My sleeve has been awesome. -
I started with going through the "best" hospital in my area....we have several. Turns out this was not a Bariatric Center of Excellence and my insurance balked two months into my program. I swapped over to another surgeon who was affiliated with a Bariatric Center of Excellence and only enough it was through the oldest and smallest hospital in the area. Funny thing is that I ultimately chose to self fund the surgery as it was less costly than actually using my insurance....insane, right ? My new surgeon was OUTSTANDING in every way. He did a great job and was excellent in his advisements and coaching. My suggestion is to locate a bariatric center of excellence. These have proven statistics over time of low complications and excellent results.

You are doing great !!!!!! Let the progress inspire you to keep on plugging away and staying on track. I generally weight daily...as soon as I wake up. Embrace success and the great feels that come with it.

My pics.....none taken......my costume.....the garb of a manufacturing production supervisor.....worked night shift on Halloween night....was a long night with a lot of scrambling to be done. I'm reserving the right to Celebrate Halloween a week or so late.

Well......I am coming up on 12.5 months since sleeve was done. Went last week to have labs and blood panels done. Have been waiting for results. Went to ortho doctor today. He shot up both knees and blown right shoulder and put me on a new wonder-med NSAID. Results posted on health portal app this evening. I'm not taking any type of blood pressure meds for cholesterol meds.......and they were excellent. Most of the other stuff was in great ranges, too. The recommendations he made on how to proceed on knees and shoulder replacements weren't expected at my age....but I'm happy to know that my organs, ticker, arteries and other are all in super shape. I can get new joints and control over pain. The other stuff is what's gonna keep on this planet for a looooooooonnng time yet. Very relieved. Sleeve has had my back all along.

Lately it's been hitting up different doctors each week and gaining interesting insight into where i am and where I'd like to be. cheese sounds much more fun. Sweet things are made of cheese. Who am I to dis a brie? LMAO. Good one. Angie Lennox would approve. One of my favorite shows of all time. I'm eagerly waiting for it to resume. Going to go back soon and watch a couple of the last episodes from the past season. Each set is a visual masterpiece. Great acting....interesting plot that grabs you in. Great stuff. You have a favorite character ? Tyrion Lannister is my favorite.

At ten days post op it was 3 Premier Protein shakes for me. 90 grams of protein. Not very hard to get down if taking time. -
Where Does the Fat Go?
Dub replied to Inner Surfer Girl's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Pretty sure it has been used for fuel for me. I've got plenty more.....nice to know I could exist in a cave....with some fresh Water, firewood and Protein and winter just fine. Onboard fuel source, lol. -
They are foods that will work against you. They are generally poor choices that don't fit your plan and you can eat them with ease.....example: pudding, ice cream, doritos, etc.

Past life drive through foods...eye opener!
Dub replied to The New Kel's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Great post. The Jimmy John's tuna sandwich is shocking. I hit a drive through for lunch....a chicken joint PDQ. 3 grilled chicken fingers. Great lunch and I really needed some food at the time. Sure beat the loaded sandwich and fries that I'd have ordered back in the day (last year, lol). -
So true. Those dogs won't hunt........ I also get worn out with the constant excuses and bs rationale that continues even after the pre-op counseling and severity of bariatric solutions is explained.....yet the mindset doesn't change. Grrrrrrrrrrrrr !!!!!

Cubs won big last night. Great stuff !!!!!!
-
When the 11 pm news began with no announcement and there was no screaming in the streets, I switched channels to see what was going on. Got to see the score tie at 6-6. First time I've watched baseball since around 1986 and it was great. Good Cubs!
-
I usually don't have a chance to follow sports. MY sweetie likes baseball and due to her being born in Chicago and spending most of her teens in Atlanta she loves the Cubs and The Braves. Last night was the first time that I've seen her screaming at the TV and jumping up on second and sitting on the edge of the couch a second later. I had more fun watching her in amazement than I ever could have.
-
I'm not even much of a baseball fan, but I was glued to the TV last night. Way to go, Cubbies!!

I either use Fairlife milk or Premier Protein in my coffee

I don't want to embrace this stall!
Dub replied to ChristinasSleeveStory's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Don't embrace a stall.....ever.....embrace ownership of where you are and striving to get where you want to be. You are doing great....stay on track and keep on exercising and staying on plan. The weight is going to fall off. -
I have two dogs. One sleeps against my worn out right knee....she's warm and keeps the nighttime pains away. The other sleeps on my blown out right shoulder. It is amazingly therapeutic. They just pile up there when I get in bed. I've never coached them to do so.....but those are the EXACT spots I'd go for. I sleep well thanks to my girls. So......my advice......go forth and get yourself a pair of great dogs.

My NUT stressed to us we shouldn't bother with salads......ever. She stressed a lot of stuff. My opinion......she looks as if she could benefit from eating more salad, lol. i waited about 8 months or so. It was a funny occurrence. I'd been in the habit of grabbing Protein eats from fast food spots on busy work days. I'd order a grilled chicken sandwich and toss the bread and have the rest. One day I made my order but was told it'd be a wait.....I asked if they had a grilled chicken breast salad....they did and I ordered. I ate the chicken first but then had a few handfuls of the lettuce (not iceberg...but decent greens) and was pleased with the flavor. I didn't die nor did I have any issues. So.....from that point forward I have enjoyed eating salads.

What do you do at the gym?
Dub replied to charley27's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
What do I do at the gym ?.......... I'm not sure there is a classification for it, but it goes a little something like this...... * Show up. This alone is more than I used to do. With that alone.....I'm improving over the old habits. * Grab a towel from the bin. Gonna need it. Sweat is good. Means work is being done. Better grab two on some days. * Walk through the gym and get on the elevator to get upstairs to cardio area. Yes....I just said elevator. My knees don't do stairs really well at the current time and seeing me walk up the centrally located open staircase would be the thing that makes people laugh so hard they'd hurt themselves. So....elevator up....while getting earbuds in and music decisions made. * Find a treadmill facing whatever it is I want to face....lots of natural light in there....I wanna find one without glare on the onboard TV. Gotta enjoy watching ESPN, Fox, CNN and such with CC text on while I'm getting started. * 5 mile walks with an incline are my goal...provided the knees don't lock up. * When that's done I'll feel pretty warmed up to go back downstairs and do some lifting on lift days. I've been using the machines more than free weights due to the range of motion being safely programed in. I'm nursing a blown shoulder and another abdominal hernia coming back.....so safe range of motion is much appreciated. * Every now and again on non-lift days I'll hit the treadmill and then get on the heavy bag after treadmill. What I should be doing is more cardio on elliptical, rowing machine or recumbent bike......but a few minutes on the heavy bag with the right music is enough to really finish things off nicely. Point is.....do what makes you feel good and work within your limitations. Seek the council of someone knowledgeable there to help get you acclimated to the various machines and proper form on lifts and strategies on timing, cardio and above all....INJURY AVOIDANCE !!!! Beware the so called trainers. I've seen all sorts in this field. My current gym has some exceptional trainers who approach things with a good, safe, effective and wholistic approach with their clients. We hired one for my son. He was very good. Covered what to do in the gym and in the kitchen. He had him on recommended diet. He also had the degrees in nutrition and exercise science to convince me of his legitimacy. My last gym......not the same quality of trainers. Their credentials were how well they fit in their "Staff" shirts. The exercises I'd see them run clients through were highly dangerous and very inappropriate for their beginner needs. Injuries were common. The key to the gym is to lock in to a way of doing things that you enjoy, is safe, productive and helps keep your interest. It can be an oasis from the rest of your life. -
What Is Your Halloween Strategy?
Dub replied to Alex Brecher's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Easy time for me this year. Working night shift. Son is going over to friends house. Wife is planning on keeping the front lights off and not entertaining trick or treaters. No candy laying around the house.
