to snack, or not to snack?
Dub replied to GSleeve822's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This always struck me as difficult to get in your required Protein per day, especially early on, without having to have Protein shakes. What is your required protein per day? My minimum protein goal is 64 grams per day. So 3 oz of chicken has 24 grams. So that leaves me 40 grams and 2 meals. For Breakfast I have 1 egg with tomatoes and spinach and feta. So 6 grams for the egg and 1 gram for the feta. So I have to get 33 more in my final meal of the day. That is for the minimum. I see for many people the protein minimum is frequently as high as 80. This doesn't seem like it allows much room for fruits or vegetables. I am glad it works for you but I just see it as really tough to get your protein in with only 3 meals and still have a balanced diet with some vegetables. My surgeon wants me to eat only 4-6 oz per meal. Sometimes I can eat more than 3 or 4 oz of chicken at a time but that is rare. I am 14 months out, so not newly sleeved. I'm in my fifth month........full blown weight loss mode. There are seldom anything but protein in my meals. I easily get 60-80 grams per day. Tuna, chicken, steak and omlettes. Shakes and bars help, too. I suspect when I'm a year or more out things will change on types and quantities -
Outstanding !!!!!!! You've done great.

I worked a 17 hour work day yesterday and came home and took my wife out for what I hoped would be a date afternoon. I still got my gym time in. Going to my job now for a four hour meeting on my day off. After this I have an appointment scheduled with my pain management Doctor for more spine injections. I will still get my gym time in. You can find the energy if you really want to. You can do anything if you really want to.

Eating burnt toast is not my forte......done it for about as long as I care to.

Yup. Some seem to be too complicated for a simple guy like me to figure out. Gonna give this testy l model away.....and go with something I'm better suited for.

Lol @LizzieBeezWax just the whining of dude who's pissed and moaned too much lately. I've got not a thing to complain about. Life is freaking great and I'm better for every single experience I've had. I've done more living this last month than in the ten years prior. It's all good. Got my boots laced tight and my big boy pants belted up and ready to get back to BEAST-mode.........even old man BEAST-mode......but at least I'm feeling like half-a-BEAST. Living, Loving and Kicking My Own Arse.

to snack, or not to snack?
Dub replied to GSleeve822's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgeon was very clear on this. He said to stick with my 3 meals each day and to avoid snacking. He maintains that the hunger is gone and that eating is simply about feeding the body what it needs and that Snacks aren't a part of the plan. Does this apply to everyone ? Of course not......it was simply his instructions for me. I'm following along for the most part with his plan. -
Well done !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That's a big fat NOPE for me!I would've been outta there lickity split. I think I shuddered just reading your post. Sent from my SM-G900W8 using the BariatricPal App Trust me......lickety split came to mind. Lickety split kept coming to mind all week while I was there.

Perceptive of you. I have a younger sister who is 9 years younger. Quite often, though, she plays the role of the older sibling. I guess you drank all of the Tequila the 1st night? Tito's Vodka & cranberry, thank you very much. A cute little temptress bartender did talk me into tequila drinks a couple nights later. Lawdy, she did so with ease and enthusiasm. She even had one with me. Rules were broken. We laughed about who was the bad influence.... I learned more about the ghost later in the week. It was all good. Perhaps one of the best weeks of my life in many ways. Learned a lot about myself. Long story. Private details, however, it's good to go on adventures and live a little. This one was way overdue. I will not wait so long before another.....trust & believe this. I was trying to be careful and wake only you......damn....bumped into that picture and so much for stealth........sorry. My ninja skills are better these days.......as long as my trick back isn't flaring up. I need new ninja-clothes.......the old ones are way too baggy.....sorta ruins the visual impact of the whole outfit. No shock & awe.....just evokes laughs from womenz...."WTH is this? Why is he wearing black sails and sheets.......wut he trying' to do.......he a ninja? Naw....he just got a bunch of fabric on sale at Cloth Barn and trying to impress". Old broke down ninja-hood is tough times, Vixen. Clothes are too-loose........

Absolutely true. The little things..........

Id have waved such stuff off as superstitious mumbo jumbo until a recent experience had me raise my eyebrows and take note. Was staying in a hotel......it was a house that had been converted into a hotel. Old. Charming. Ambiance. The room in my floor was creaky & squeaky. Anyone walking was easily heard. My first night there I heard someone walking beside the bed, pass in front of the bed and go into the bathroom. I was wide awake when it happened and had plenty of light filtering through an adjacent window to confirm that I was alone. I have no deeper explanation for this other than it happened. I did get up to check around and the rooms were empty of course. Crazy times. Stayed a few more nights and nothing even remotely strange like that happened again.

Liquid diet phase: Is honey in tea OK ?
Dub replied to brookriver2014's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I never did......but then again I use so much artificial sweetener that it can't be good. I need to reduce the amounts of Splenda and such I use. I may give small amounts of honey a try even though I know there will be more carbs involved. -
You got this, Hans. I've had very spotty coverage with nutritional guidance from my plans NUT's Now, my initial NUT from the first surgeon's group (wound up changing surgeons midway through my deal.....long story) was golden. Very insightful and helpful. Don't sweat it. Their delivery can be wonky.....hopefully their information is solid. Focus on the content and not the messenger. You'll need them on your side for the approval steps. Time the grind it out on some weight loss and manage yourself so you can nail those incremental weigh ins. Remember that in due time you'll be able to have any sort of food again, It sensible amounts. No need to think you're going to need "one last hurrah " binge sessions with various treats. Apply either their diet or one that you know is safe and effective and you're on your way.

The light at the end of the tunnel will become much brighter and much quicker than you may realize. It is a miraculous experience and one that you will truly benefit from and be so very glad you took on. Glad your surgery went well. Welcome to the Loser's Bench. Enjoy yourself along the way to the new you. Fun times ahead !!!

I'm sort of a knuckle dragger here......no real good tips here. I do love to get a slice or two of Swiss and hit it with Tobasco sauce.

Did Your Doctor and/or Surgeon Give You Confidence?
Dub replied to Alex Brecher's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
My surgeon has been very straightforward and easy to talk with about all aspects of my WLS. He has been highly insightful and direct. His message has been consistent and his advice very timely. He has been very encouraging. I am immensely grateful for his impact on my life. -
Mind games = my worst enemy
Dub replied to sassyfrass23's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Ya'll gonna kill this WLS. Truth is that I draw heaps of motivation from others here. There are days where it is tough and all I have to do lis login here on BP and five minutes later my battery is recharged and I'm better able to get through whatever nagging issue I had. BP is a special place full of many inspirational people. -
Mind games = my worst enemy
Dub replied to sassyfrass23's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Thank you, Darling. Thank you. I have a very, very strong feeling that this young lady is going to go on and show us how this is done. She will continue to inspire us all like she already has done. I can feel it. I am so grateful for the people on here who take on the fight and prove that it can be done. We all have weak moments and times when we feel that life is kicking us hard. We have only to look around here for 5 minutes and find so many sources of inspiration and be uplifted. I am so grateful for you, the veterans and the new people here who pursue their dreams and living on their terms....not as victims of obesity or poor health. It feels wonderful to be in the driver's seat and not in the back of an ambulance. The view is much nicer !!!! -
Mind games = my worst enemy
Dub replied to sassyfrass23's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
You are going to to do so well with your WLS experience that you'll be amazing everyone........your family, your friends, all of us here on BP and.....YOURSELF. I am 120% certain of this fact. More certain than of the fact that the sun will set this eventing and the sun will rise tomorrow......and when it does you will be another day closer. You already have shown so much determination and grit. You already have a battle plan for how to proceed. It is yours and you own it. You've taken what you've been taught through your program, taken insight and tips here from folks, forecasted your own probable pitfalls.......and put it all together into the mix and formulated your own strategy and guidelines for behavior. You have already changed and made the transition from the old ways. I am so very impressed with what I've seen you do. In my opinion, you have already made it past the most difficult part of the journey and overcome the most difficult hurdle......yourself. You have changed yourself. More specifically you have recalibrated your thinking and your responses to stimuli. You have done this and nobody else. You have done this at a most stressful time. You have self evaluated after being beat up a little bit in a skirmish. You coached yourself up and came back to the fight and delivered a knock out blow and ended the round early.....WELL DONE. It's not just a single round, but many of them. It's not going to be just a single fight....but many of them. Being able to coach yourself....to self evaluate.....to make adjustments and own the results......that, my friend, is the key to winning long term and being the Champion. You've already done this so very early on. In my opinion.....you have nothing left to prove. You beat that hardest opponent you'll ever face in your WLS journey......knocked that sucka out cold, too. Now step up to the center of the ring and make your acceptance speech as they put the title belt around your slimming waist. Make your speech......let everyone hear your winning spirit......then drop the mike and strut around and keep kicking azz every single time a new wanna be challenges your greatness. Mind over matter. Hells yes !!!!!!! That is is it. Preach on. You are nailing it there. You've got this. I am certain of this fact. Trust & Believe. -
Anyone else having trouble drinking coffee?
Dub replied to Athenyx's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
At 8 weeks out I believe I was still drinking it with a good bit of Fairlife milk mixed in. Now....at 5 months out I pretty much drink it the way I did before, though just not as much per day: Splenda and a shot of sugar-free creamer. -

Keto Chow -- Good for Post-Op liquid diet?
Dub replied to Kooky1's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I can't speak for everyone else, but for me 1,200 calories per day post op would have been too much. -
What I did pre-op ???? I was eager.....ready....excited. I was relieved every day when the sun came up....knowing I was closer.... Spent a lot of time on here. A lot of time reading up on success stories.....seeing the positive outcomes and soaking it all in.
