October 2015 Peeps......where U be ? What it is ?
Dub replied to Dub's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Thanks !!!! Busted through a stall that has had me in the grips. Busted through and am pushing hard to reach my goal weight....my fighting weight. I've got less than one month to go before I reach the 12 month mark of my first bariatric appointment. I know it's impossible for me to be at my goal weight by then......but I can be much closer....... I'm hoping to be below my goal weight by the actual 12 months surgiversary. Life is good when we are in control of our weight issues. -
Well.......found out yesterday that I am no Muhammad Ali. I've not used a pre-workout drink in several years......until yesterday. A buddy gave me some to try. Holy Hell, I was amped up.....too amped up. I went through my treadmill warmup and then on with my lifting session. Was pumped up and feeling great as I was walking towards the locker room......passed the heavy bags........and couldn't resist. Jumped on that bag and spent a few mins beating the crap outa it........only to find later on yesterday that the bag beat the crap outa me. Dayum.....feel like I was ripped in half. Pre-workout supplements + hardcore warfare music + gym = bad juju for this old boy. I'm going back today.....but will go at it more slowly and carefully.....gonna sip on my BCAA drink and work through the soreness.......and I'll shoot the bird to the bag as I walk by it. lol

There is absolutely no doubt that seeing results fuels motivation to exercise and remained disciplined with the eating. Your sleeve is a tool and will do as you employ it to do. It will allow you eat and drink sugary garbage and pile the weight on.......OR......it will allow you to eat nutritious Proteins and eventually add vegetables......and stay hunger free and charged up and ready to rock. If and when you find yourself in a stall on the scale moving......seriously evaluate your intake and effort level. If you are giving maximum effort.....then keep after it. You are going to get the results you work for.....and then some. Fun times ahead for you.

Another step away from being the fat girl

Yes, yes and YES !!!!!!!! -
Sorry folks........but this old boy doesn't embrace stalls. To me, a stall is simply telling my my strategy and effort are weak and lacking. Worked some crazy long hours these past two weeks....lot of job stress.....all were excuses I used to say my stall was understandable. I've been off work and supposed to be relaxing since Friday. I've put some serious miles on the dreadmill, lifted heavy shyt and put it back down, worked out on punching bags and lifted more heavy shyt. I'm no Muhammad Ali.....but I gave this stall a beatdown.....old school beatdown. Embrace a stall ? Piss on that. Stomp it down into the mud and then walk it dry. I don't embrace a damn thing about it. Feeling great this morning. The scale agreed with my efforts. Free yer mind.......and yer arse will follow !!!!!!!!

I am SO glad to finally read someone saying it's crap to "embrace the stall". I thought no one felt that way but me. Stalls put your thought into overdrive and make you wonder what is happening and WHY? Great mood killer!!

I was a lover of beer when I was pre-op. It's part of what made me so damn big. I loved it. We have a couple of new beer specialty shops 2-3 miles from my house. They pour you a growler of all sorts of high end suds. I would enjoy it while grilling, fishing, etc. That being said......I've not had a beer in the last 14 months and I'm 7+ months post-op. I don't miss it and I sure as hell don't want to drink calories at that level ever again. It's too easy for those calories to really add up.

Good for you for not engaging in the lunacy of saying goodbye to various foods. It's a stupid concept that sleevers need not worry about. You'll be able to have whatever you care to have once you are post op. You will still be able to enjoy pizza....only it will be a slice or two.....not the whole pie. Same with anything else. You will enjoy responsible size portions. The beauty of it is that you'll not want to eat garbage foods, though. You'll most likely grow to crave the things that are helpful and healthy. For instance.......I get lathered up thinking about salmon fillets or steaks........chicken breasts on the grill........guacamole and the like. You'll be able to have whatever you want......but you'll choose wisely in spite of this. Sleevers can begin to lose right away......day one of their bariatric process......not wait until the liquid pre-op diet.

Two prior abdominal hernia surgeries and then the sleeve & 3rd hernia repair. I can say that the two best things to do are: 1) take a couple of pillows to hold with light pressure against your abdomen. It really helps. 2) make sure to get your pain meds prescription filled prior to surgery and have it ready for the ride home.

Having trouble wrapping my mind around only losing 4 lbs since surgery
Dub replied to kat27641's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So don't. Negative thoughts very much lead to negative results. Trust & Believe this. Free your mind and yer arse will follow. Long term focus......through daily adherence to your plan. Stick with the plan.....find your stride......and move as much as you can....walking, working, do everything with enhanced effort and vigor. sleep well. Stay hydrated. Watch as those pounds fall off. Long term focus..... You got this. -
It's all going to be good. The initial size of your meals will grow over the first year. It'll grow to the point where you can get down a cup or so of food per meal. Stick to Proteins and good vegetables and you'll do great....really great. Your weight will be something that you can now control.......and not have it control you. You are gonna benefit hugely from this decision.

Whose laughing, woman ? I swear I'm going to ram the next left-lane-slow driver in the arse with my bumper. Gonna do it...........one day. Today is not that day, though.

You are gonna be buying smaller and smaller scrubs. The final day I worked before going out for my sleeve/hernia repair was filled with funny stuff. It ended with me getting off work and stopping in the men's room on the way out....by the front entrance. It'd been a very long day and all my peers were long gone....I'd stayed over to get some administrative bs done in preparation for my 3 weeks off. I looked up in the mirror as I was washing my hands and saw myself wearing a polo styled short sleeve shirt that had been well worn.....loved the fit and style of it. It was my "skinny shirt". Something about that damn shirt that always made me feel good wearing it. It began life as black....but was a washed out charcoal by then. Anyway......I peeled it off and threw it in the trash and walked my jiggly beer gut ass outa there and across the parking lot to my car. That was 7 months ago. The shirt was a 6x. I just ordered some new work shirts yesterday. They are sized in 2xlt. I've done nothing special....nothing extraordinary. I've simply followed, for the most part, followed my surgeon's plan. You will be loving those next level scrubs in your near future !!!!!!!!! Life is good.

6 days post op you are still dealing with safety issues for your healing stomach. Stick to the plan and quick doing risky stuff. Also, trust me on this.......eating sugars and starches will simply make you want more of the same....it begins a horrible cycle of sugary death. Avoid the sugars......stick to the Proteins that are on you plan.....break the cycle and you'll ease into a pattern that is free of hunger and gets the scale moving the intended direction. It only takes about a 24 period of discipline and you'll be in the hunger-free low carb zone. Trust & believe that this will work. FWIW, I'm doing the exact same thing. I let some stressful times at work be the reason I grazed. i caught myself and realized the grazing desire was simply amplified by my body's response to sugar. Once I cut it out.....I felt immediately better and in control again. So easy to do. Just takes that first 24hrs of discipline. You can do this.

Don't have the struggle. Avoid it by simply doing what you know is right......sticking to the plan. Avoid struggles by keeping it simple. Just do it.

What Is Your Brilliant Substitute for a Craving?
Dub replied to Alex Brecher's topic in Food and Nutrition
At work when I get hit with a craving.......I carry my happy arse over to the Starbuck's kiosk and grab a cup of Cafe Verona with splenda and a shot of French vanilla creamer. I follow it with a 30 oz bottle of Water and I'm good to go for a while. I don't really get hit with cravings around the house. -
Pre-Op Need Motivation Help !
Dub replied to Serenity141's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
As others have said....cut out all sugars and starches. Measure your calorie intake using my fitness pal or the like. Keep your body flushed out with Water.....constantly drinking. Get moving.....walk, walk, walk. Begin a supervised weight training plan, too. 10% in 12 weeks is very achievable. You'll get that much and way more if you start right away and kick things into gear. -
Damn straight it has.

I had a massive umbilical hernia repaired at the time of my VSG. The surgeon warned me, though, that it should be considered a temporary repair and I'd need to allow him to do a more permanent repair after I lose my unwanted weight that was helping to contribute to reoccurring hernias. It's visible in my profile "before" pictures. The repair done at the time of VSG with the tools they use for this made for an easy recovery compared to the two open type hernia surgeries I've had in the past. Much, much easier.

Best I've felt in a long, long time. Very glad to have taken on the weight battle and utilized wls to assist. It's been a fast few months and I feel 20 years younger......even though I know that another hernia repair and shoulder surgery is needed soon. So much more energy now.....energy and enthusiasm to take on challenges and enjoy myself during the process. No regrets whatsoever about my sleeve surgery.

Ah.....such a stellar thread. It has started my last two mornings with grins. Grins.....and a bit of science thrown in for good measure. And speaking of measure......good to know that big gulp straws are welcomed at #teamstraw. #wrinkleprevention.

Interdasting.......see.....now this brings forth other questions to mind.......for example: how do you approach these sputterings that have occurred........do you stop and wipe them up......or keep on being a trooper until the .....the coffee....is finished. Personally, I think that spitters are quitters. I admire and appreciate when the job gets done fully.....when the task at hand is.....well...is no longer at hand but has grown to greater scales and is tackled in other ways. Okay.....I've gotta get my arse into the shower and get ready for work. Gonna be a long day. Looking forward to the weekend and hoping for some more time to discuss this matter more deeply.
