Not sure why it'd be frowned on around here. It's a part of life and a damned important part, too. Sex is much better now than before. Now, I know that I broke the bed due to effort.......not due to weight.

Why such a long process? (Rant)
Dub replied to Jane1979's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I grew sick of the insurance company stalling things. I opted to self pay and that sped everything up a great deal. Weeks Vs months. -
Try doing a search for alcohol and then get ready to read all sorts of views. I waited until third month.

It will be something you're going to get a great deal of relief from. Wish I'd done this years ago.

How to alleviate shoulder, back etc pain
Dub replied to charlie24's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Been taking Advil for a while now. Surgeon approved me to do so. It's one of the reasons I chose sleeve Vs bypass. -
Competition is something I do at work.....its part of the culture there. I'm glad as hell I am not having to compete in my off time. Sounds too much like those stupid bachelor or bachelorette shows.

The pre op freak out, how do I stop it?
Dub replied to ALittleMe0914's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had a few jitters as well. Same jitters I've had before ankle, knee and hernia surgeries. I stayed focused on the fact that I was in much greater danger living like I had been and the WLS was going to be a lifeline. I experienced zero complications and it was the easiest and least painful surgery to recover from. -
Who would have thought..6 months today
Dub replied to goplay94123's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
You are doing an outstanding job of making the most or your VSG. Look at you......in 6 months !!!!!!!!!!! Amazing results. See....people look at before & after photos but they can't see the biggest changes......the changes that are occurring in our confidence and happiness. You described this really well. I am very flattered by your kind words, however, you are the one that is inspiring here. Running marathons and helping others. You have made the most of your experience and are certain to make the most at your new life. Amazing results !!! -
I started enjoying an occasional drink at 3-4 months. All is well. Didn't lose my mind. No issues.

Has anyone had trouble with constipation?
Dub replied to Gorgeous Girl's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Perhaps......on some topics. I'll blame my coffee habit indulgence on my VSG surgeon, doe. Any and everything else.....I'll take the blame and punishment for.................. Right on the chin . -

How has surgery changed family life.
Dub replied to feller2005's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
LMAO at "keeping them alive". My wife came with me to a support group meeting and I went back for two more by myself. I vowed to never....ever go back. Each of them were two hour spans of my life that I can never get back. Each of the meetings were dominated by 1-2 people who were complaining and griping the whole time. Every single time a person spoke up with a positive experience the outspoken jerks would rain down on them. I'll never sit through that crap again. I actually stood up halfway through that last meeting and told the loudmouth what I though of their bullcrap whining and bid them a good life and got the heck outa there. I trust that other places have better programs.....but the one's I attended were horrid. Some patients just want to stay mired down in their sorrows and drag other's down with them. Oh no!! I haven't been to ours yet, but I hope it's not like that! I could definitely see how they could go that direction though. My surgeon has a Facebook group for all his patients and within that everyone has been awesome so far! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App I wish that I'd have handled things differently in the very first meeting. I didn't want to be "that guy" though. By the midpoint of that third meeting.....I simply couldn't take it anymore. It was an excuse fest being thrown out by two people and the other dozen were actually trying to convey best practices and winning strategies. After a bit.....I heard myself speaking before I realized it was happening. It wasn't warm an bubbly talk, either, lol. I gave in to the dark side.....said my piece.....stood up and gtfo. Good thing I got out when I did, too. I was trying my best to get past a life of excuses.....and some of the ones I was hearing sounded pretty damn tempting to buy into. Hell.....I'll bet the loud dude in there could've talked us into hopping in a van together....singing Kumbaya all the way to a pizza buffet together. -
I am so very sorry to hear about the extreme difficulties you and your wife have faced. It must be overwhelming. Prayers for you and hoping for the best.

Thanks. I'm on here too dang much.....from phone....laptop, etc. It's addictive......yet helpful for me. Life after wls is something that I need to talk about with someone. I almost never discuss it with folks outside of here because it's just something that they have no experience with. We are all here going through similar times and can really relate. -
WEEK 3.5 POST-OP GASTRIC SLEEVE
Dub replied to Nenniebelle's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Congrats !!!!! Yes.....most of us have delays in our weight loss at different intervals. 3-4 weeks is a fairly common time for the first one to hit. Stay strict with your plan and keep exercising and the delays will pass and weight loss will continue. I find that hopping on the scale every morning helps to keep me focused on avoiding the pitfalls that can derail weight loss. -

People with high blood pressure
Dub replied to JayVSG's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
47 years old and been on blood pressure meds for the last dozen years or so. At 3 weeks post op I began having episodes where I'd almost pass out. Felt dizzy, weak and just weird. Took my blood pressure and saw that it was low.....as in crazy low. Called my pcp and got in to see him. Meds were cut in half.....then dropped altogether by my 9th month post-op. Feels good to be off them, too. -

Reality is setting in...

A new beginning is just ahead. It's one that can be lots of fun. The humorous moments started right away for me, too. For a brief moment......as I woke up from surgery......I thought I'd gone on to a happy place. My surgeon had three really attractive female med students in the room with him at all my final pre-op appointments. They were there in my room as I woke up. One of them.....absolutely stunning.....spoke as she smiled. I thought I was being attended by angels, lol. At the two month point, my son demanded that get back to grilling. He said he was tired of frozen pizzas, fast food and microwave meals. I hit the shower, got dressed and went to the grocery store. I was wearing some Under Armour long gym pants. Evidently the weight of my car keys and wallet was enough to pull down my baggy UA pants while I was walking through the store. By down....I mean all the way down.....around my ankles while pushing the cart. Funny times are ahead. Enjoy yourself and make the most of getting lean and fit. -
Superbadass !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Outstanding !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Pressure To Return To Work
Dub replied to EricaTasia's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm a manufacturing supervisor. I work 13+ hour shifts. Typical day involves a great deal of walking as my department covers an area that's a few football fields in size. I also had an umbilical hernia repaired at the time of my sleeve surgery. This was why I took 3 weeks off. My first three days back on the job were only 8 hour days.....after that it has been full tilt boogie ever since. Had I only had the sleeve done.....a week would have been all I'd have needed. Going back to work was actually easier than my last days that I was there pre-op as my other body pains were reduced. It is a pleasant byproduct of losing weight. It's far easier now at ~11 months. People make mountain out of a mole hill when they theorize ahead of time at how weak and feeble they think they will be. Yes....we are eating at a very low calorie level. My finding with this is that if I cut out the carbs and stayed in ketosis....I'd not have problems. My body had....and still has.....enough fat stored that needs to be used as fuel. Flipping that switch and burning that fat gives me plenty energy when combined with quality Protein intake. The only real complication I encountered was when my blood pressure went way low at 3 weeks post-op. Turns out that I was over medicating as I was still taking the normal doses of blood pressure meds yet I was down 55 lbs from pre-op and 20+ pounds post up at 3 weeks. Easily corrected by smaller dose. Now corrected by zero meds. -

Realizing your life is changing
Dub replied to cheneisew's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Take plenty of pictures right now. Hang on to them. Now......on your next birthday pull them out and look at the difference that a single year made. I submit to you that you celebrate your birthday at least once a month.....go out and have fun. Everything gets better and you'll want to celebrate all the time. When I say "celebrate", I'm not meaning get drunk and swing from a chandelier.....I simple mean to relax.....laugh......enjoy yourself and the day to day experiences that are so much better as you get to the weight you want to be.
