Caffeine - must it be gone forever?
Dub replied to cindym44's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I have unsweetened tea a couple times a week and coffee every day. No issues. -
Football eats ? Yup....got a few favorites for gameday meals. As you'll see.....most of them are vegetarian and uber healthy......or at least sleeve friendly............. Guacamole is always good to me. I was joking about the whole vegetarian thing, btw. Herb smoked meatballs and stuffed mushrooms. Wings and buffalo chicken dip. Stuffed clams. Beef brisket burnt ends. Stuffed jalapeños. 'ritas. Lobster tails & tuna steaks with wasabi. Sliders. Grilled asparagus with bacon upgrade. An easy halftime food that can be made swiftly......ribeyes. This one was grossly overcooked, in my opinion. Bacon wrapped meatballs.

You are cracking this old fella up. Cheese and hot sauce is how I get things done.

On point here. Casein protein takes longer than the whey isolate to be digested, therefore being satiated will last longer. In terms of "ideal" protein ( for those who are ok with milk products) casein is second only to 100% whey-isolate. It's a good choice. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App Night time is the right time for casein. It's perfect for feeling full for hours.

Try a casien protein shake and call it a day.

Outstanding......you look fantastic. You are doing great and have the will to achieve anything you set your mind to achieving.

My Pirates won our season opener 52-7 and just beat our in state rival 33-30. Next week we see if we can finally right some wrongs and beat the SC Gamecocks. I'll be there and hopefully be better behaved than I was at the last one.

Do you recall way back when you wrote something indicating that you're a grown-up and I told you I'd thought until then that you were an undergrad? Now you know why. I'm in no way opposed to doing research -- I do it all the time -- but not when it's someone else's. Oh, let the old walruses put straws up their noses. Why is the topic always volatile? Do what you want, straw or no, and shut up. Wow. I must have missed something. Things getting steamed up over straw jokes and fruit ????

Whew......thought I was gonna have to do something manly and post up the proof pics.................chop down a tree, go gator wrasltin', or some such. Glad I'm off the hook and get a pass.

You get dialed back in by taking control of things. Stop grazing. Plan your meals and space them apart at correct intervals that will provide you with energy. You are in complete control of every bite of food that you take. Nobody is forcing you to eat. You hold yourself accountable and make the right choices with the right types of food in the correct quantity and at the right time. Tracking every bite through the use of an app like myfitnesspal makes it really easy to see where you are slipping. It's right there in front of you. It breaks down the macros really nicely so you can see where you are failing. Exercise can be a great way to get there, too. I promise you that if you get on a treadmill and punch in your weight.....allow it to track calories burned......you'll see and feel how much each calorie really counts. It will make it easy for you to stay on track. It's all about you regaining control and being in charge of your nutrition.

My dogs are the only ones who love my getting up early. Gives them the opportunity to outside for some pre-dawn scouting around and then they come back in and pile up on the sofa like they are right now.

Have to stay off Fb, pre-op diet :(
Dub replied to Aleathia's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I distinctly remember the TV commercials being the something I noticed more than normal during my pre-op liquid diet. They really jumped out at me. I remember laughing and thinking, "You guys are getting my attention, but, you are wasting your advertising funds on me". I also remember thinking that I would be able to have much of what was advertised in the months ahead.....burgers without the bun and etc. It was a nonissue after a short time. -
I'm shorting myself on sleep, too. Up at 3:45am-4:00am on work days, like today. Up by 4:30am on days off. I should sleep more. It is something that I was coached to do during the pre-op counseling sessions.....yet I fail at doing so.

1.5 years post op-- weight loss stopped
Dub replied to Kiba's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Agreed on 40g being a very low amount of Protein. Getting this up will likely make a nice difference for you. -
I just kept them clean and used both antibacterial soap and soap with aloe. I suppose they are visible if one looks really really carefully, however, everything has shrunk in the area where the scars are.

LOL. That would be a definitive "NO". Maybe I should go back and ninja edit my post to say "Never spoken these words to anyone". Damn. Just had my man-card credentials questioned. Damn. LMAO.

Okay......here it is..........words I've never spoken to any women....anywhere or anytime.............. I am admiring your nuts.

I Want To See Before & After Pics! (Cont'd)
Dub replied to LilMissDiva Irene's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
A few days shy of 11 months between these two pics. Feeling better. Thinking better. VSG was a hyooooge winning decision in my life. Why in the hell I waited so long to take action is a mystery to me. I've given up on divining the reasons why I waited.....just moving forward. Long way to go....but grateful for the relief I feel every single day. Back pain is way better.....crappy knees are still giving me hell for waiting so long.....but my ticker is thankful and no longer working double-time to pump blood where it needs to go. It's like my body has switched into cruise control and I feel better than I have in decades. I have nothing but encouragement for anyone considering this surgery. I've had zero complications with my VSG and my surgeon left me with simple and easily followed instructions for how to succeed with the weight loss and approach food forever. There is nothing that I cant enjoy and nothing that I want for. Went to enjoy a birthday celebration yesterday at my favorite spot....a Mexican restaurant that I LIVED at in my old life. I had chips 'n salsa.....and margaritas.......and even ordered a meal that was off the charts with flavor......brought the leftovers home for Breakfast, lol. I sure don't eat & drink that way very often.....but I can enjoy anything on occasion. By having 80+% of my stomach removed........I have finally found what it is to be "normal". Go figure. -
How to break the habit of eating and drinking
Dub replied to JayVSG's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Suggestion- if you eat hot/spicy and your mouth is on fire, save a little teaspoon worth of room to eat a dollop of sour cream. Milk products relieve the heat- Water as I'm sure you know, doesn't. My .22 cents worth Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App I was just recently made aware of this. Last week a buddy at work calls me and says he has something for me. We hook up and he hands me a ziplock bag full of habaneros.....chocolate habaneros. They are a special strain that a friend of his grows. I show them to another hombre I work with and he gets all googly-eyed and antsy....wanting to try them. I hand them over....he pops one in his mouth and pulls out the stem and starts chewing....slowly. I'm sorta in awe. Dude finishes it off and says...."Not bad. The heat built for a minute then leveled off. Nowhere near the heat of the Carolina Reaper I had this morning......I had to have a glass of milk after that one". He went on to explain the relief that dairy products can offer.....and to NOT drink water in that situation as it just spreads the burn around. I handed the bag of chocolate habaneros over to him and shook his hand. I like hot....but I like it to add flavor. They can have their insanely hot stuff. Jalapeños and habaneros are my comfort zone. -
Those are going to be insanely tasty !!!!!!!!!!!!

How to break the habit of eating and drinking
Dub replied to JayVSG's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It seems counterintuitive.......but it really is easy.....at least it normally is for me. Now.....I bend the rule bigtime on the front end....only stopping the sipping 10 mins before eating......but I always give it 30 mins after eating before resuming. The only time it has been an issue is if I eat something really spicy-hot. I really....really don't like the full feeling.....and as @@LipstickLady said.....I hate vomitting. The 30 min rule was something I had concerns about when I was pre-op....but it's a non-issue for me now. -
95 pounds down and counting...

Awesome !!! Having fun and feeling younger. Life is great !!!! -
But you, my friend, know how to use a grill!!! I should have been born in the Carolinas for how much I love BBQ! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App Born and raised in Eastern North Carolina. "BBQ" was a term that we used to describe pulled & chopped pork that was hit with a vinegar based sauce and usually served with a finely diced sweet coleslaw. Moved to Georgia and found out there is more to BBQ than just the pulled pork. More to it than just the vinegar sauce. There have been some great additions to what I now know as BBQ.......ribs, brisket, sausage and more. I have some of my favorites on the grill today.......
