I completely agree with you on the weight loss drugs being a bad move. My experiences with the sleeve are that eating small & healthy portions is exactly the way things go now. Regaining health and feeling better overall has made a positive impact on all aspects of life. It's something that "normal" folks don't seem to always understand.....we simply want to be at a normal weight and stay there.

What sport or competition is for me? I need suggestions
Dub replied to mi75's topic in Fitness & Exercise
Whatever you decide to do......be careful. Allow the proper time to learn the ropes and build the muscle and condition the connective tissue to avoid injuries. Having to take out to heal an injury is no fun and will drive you nuts. -
How many grams of sugar per day?
Dub replied to ashleyrowles's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Zero sugar is what I shoot for......of course that's not a number I hit everyday. -
Forgiveness. After my adventures yesterday.....I truly need lots of forgiveness.

The Pirates will be in my House in November. All 50 ECU grads in Oklahoma make the trek to Tulsa every other year. Looking forward to it. It was a tough loss yesterday, but you can't cough up the ball that much and win.

Diet after Sleeve (fear of my own sabotage)
Dub replied to stefanie0804's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
There is no way short of crack addiction or AIDS that will allow you to lose weight without getting your mind focused and disciplined for the task. Spend time and do research Get professional help to get your head wrapped around the effort that will be needed......do this first. Get yourself in the mental place where you will do what must be done to support weight loss. Do this first and then the sleeve will be a tremendous tool for you. Free your mind and yer arse will follow..... -
Diet after Sleeve (fear of my own sabotage)
Dub replied to stefanie0804's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If you want to sit around and eat candy, sweets and trash foods......the sleeve will not stop you. You can easily find ways to eat "around" your sleeve. The way to not sabotage this is to demonstrate resolve and apply discipline. If you are in a place where you truly want to lose the weight then you will follow the plan. If you are not.....then you won't. Sorry if this is harsh......but it's the truth. You have to have your priorities in order for the sleeve to work.....and to continue working. -
Brb.....searching for "silver bullet of peace" thread.... Thinking of starting a new thread titled, "Things I embrace......". I'm a staunch advocate for NOT embracing a stall. There other stuff that needs embracing. We can all pile on with the stuff we now embrace.

Got an awkward boner as I was waking up in my room. Could't help it.....my surgeon had three female med students with him that had been there during my final pre-op appointments......all were attractive....one of them, though......whew......stronger than new rope. Anyway....I knew as I was waking up....all was well with the landing gear as it was deploying.....this knowledge came before I'd even been told the surgery was a success by surgeon or other staff. I waited until being discharged from hospital to give it a test run......the IV lines would have been cumbersome.........

This thread is filled with awesome-ness. And to think it all began by Miss Mergs feeling guilty as she ate smallish sausage. Now....she's been coached by all to embrace the sausage and do so with vigor.

"VS" as in "variable speed" (drill) -nothing dirty intended. You know how us guys love our power tools. You should see this little beauty of a variable speed drill I have, light weight, dual speeds (0-450RPM, 0-1500RPM), 20V lithium-ion battery, etc., oh yeah! (I know you meant Victoria's Secret" ) Don't let 'em fool ya.....some of these chics are down with power tools. Just look at the way their eyes glaze over when they talk about B.O.B.

Negative comments - not "fat enough"?
Dub replied to Jim Paulette's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
sleep apnea can be a killer. Getting some possible relief from this alone is worth the price of surgery. Folks that don't live with you don't fully know the impact that the medical issues that being overweight contributes to in your life. Even those living with you may not "get it". My wife, for instance, understood some of the struggles I was dealing with, but I'd concealed a lot from her. I didn't want to scare her with some of it. Once I made it through the surgery and down the road 4 months or so.....I opened up to her and others more about my rationale and motivations for having weight loss surgery. After these conversations......all were fully supportive and understanding......and grateful I was seeing the relief from each of the signs the Grim Reaper was taking interest in me..... Many people......hell, many patients.....equate weight loss surgery with simply "looking better". Our society is all about looks, no ? Most people simply go through their lives blissfully ignorant to medical fears......until it strikes them or close to them. Just tell them there are other issues that you are combating with this surgery or that you are being proactive to circumvent these issues. Living as an obese person is almost a guarantee to experience much more severe health issues and at a much earlier stage in life than is normal. -
Share Your Best Story of Someone Noticing Your Weight Loss
Dub replied to Alex Brecher's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I live 5+ hours away from my parents & sister. Last Mother's Day weekend, I got up at o'dark o'clock and made quick work of the drive to their hometown. I went to my Mom's favorite brunch restaurant and snuck in and sat at her table. Dad & Sis were in on the deal....Mom was clueless. Dad walked her into the restaurant and she saw me....from 15' away and turned back to Dad and said, "There is a man sitting at our table....we'd better find another". Dad chuckled and asked her to look back and see who the man was.....Mom did.....and the look of recognition started to grow on her face and then a huge smile that lit up the room. She almost dropped her cane and fell into a big old bear hug from me. Mom has been through so much medical challenges in her adult life.....and a heap of them lately, too. It was so nice to spend the weekend there......visit with her....cook for her.....and just enjoy being there and seeing her happy. My sister had bypass surgery 15 years or so back. She's absolutely done a miraculous job of staying true to the diet and rocked post-op life really well. We all witnessed the miracle of wls in her life..........and being able to see it take root in my life was a great relief to my parents. -

Nothing at all wrong with that choice, in my opinion. Fats and Protein..........exactly what I was coached to eat by my surgeon. Eggs, sausage, cheese and bell pepper......perfect. Ya done good, kid.

It was really simply laid out for me by my surgeon. He said that the next two weeks would't be much fun.....the liquid diet.....3-4 shakes per day with all the non-calorie liquids I wanted to drink...........but it was to best insure my safety during the surgery. He showed me the procedure already and how he'd use a tool to lift my liver out of the way for the duration of the surgery. He'd showed me what could happen to a fatty liver......vs a properly dieted liver. The thought of waking up post-op and realizing that my surgery had been aborted due to liver issues was all the motivation that I needed to adhere to the 14 day liquid diet. Was it any fun ? Not really........but the scale moved and each day found me closer to my surgery. It's a great way to mentally break away from food, too. This is something that we all need to do prior to our surgery anyway. You can pay someone to change the oil in your car, do your lawn work and yes.....perform your surgeries..........but this is the part that YOU must OWN and take care of. You can do it. Don't overthink it.......just do it.
