I wish there was one that was strong enough to hold in this umbilical hernia.

Why are there so many folks that have excellent results yet no progress pics ? I can understand if they've had the surgery and moved on and no longer post here.....but what about the folks that actively post and have listed remarkable weight loss stats since their surgery? I came here looking for advice and techniques to best prepare for the surgery and life beyond. Turns out to have been a good move. This place is great. Many, many great advisors.....but some have me scratching my head. What I mean.....is that it's easier to take advice from someone who's "been there and done that". I wouldn't take golf advice from a hack that can't break 100. Nor would I want to take bariatric advice from someone who's not been through it successfully. Advice from someone who's successful and thriving is what I'm hoping for. It sure is easier to trust posts from someone who shows their actual progress results via pics. Why wouldn't a person proudly display their 100+ pound loss progress ? Especially if they are dispensing advice to others ? What am I missing here?

Academy Sports ?

I don't think that's going to work for any of us. The good news, Geronimo, is that everything you own will be looser. Under Armor long sweatpants and t-shirts are what I'm going to be wearing.

I've looked into self-pay in my area as well (Georgia). $19,800 at one hospital and $21,000 at another. I am also very worried about the cost that could accrue from complications that aren't covered. I have to look further into it.

Making a life changing decision
Dub replied to Katy Walton's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I found myself with a similar desire as you when I was at the beginning of my consideration of weight loss surgery earlier this year. I didn't want to do anything "too" radical......just something to give me a bit of help that, along with exercise, will yield the results I wanted. It did not take long.....not long at all, to realize that the procedure I needed was gastric bypass. This was based on five doctor's recommendations, three of them being surgeons. I'm 100% certain they are correct. I'm going through the 6 months of pre-op stuff now. I also work 13-14 hour days, too. When I finally get a day off I'm wiped out. Good luck to you. -
Fits, fitbits, and Fitbit scales
Dub replied to provenzee's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've never owned anything like a fitbit or the gear that goes along with it. I ordered a nice scale last week and will begin with it. I'd like to add a fitbit soon, too. -
Will I be able to get in enough protein to bodybuild?
Dub replied to Dub's topic in Fitness & Exercise
Yes you can. ImageUploadedByBariatricPal1439596874.958763.jpg You look great !!!! Hard work paying off. -
James, your advice above: "Sometimes you just have to put blinders on and go forward no matter what." So very true thus far. It's been a lesson in frustration, but each setback makes me more determined to get this stuff resolved.

I'm hoping to get at least a year post op before I even consider this. It's already been over four months since I quit beer-liquor. I don't miss it and don't want to fool with it. I simply want to follow the plan strictly and be done with being fat.

You just had major surgery to overcome weight problems. Now you are only two weeks past this and considering sabotaging it. Don't be stupid.

Psych eval - is this normal?
Dub replied to missy5099's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had to watch ten hours worth of videos and take tests on them.....before the eval. There was another test that was serial pages long. Then there was the eval. She was supercool and extremely good looking. It was simply like having a nice conversation. -
Whith my insurance.....through the doctors in my plan......it's going to cost me $24,000 for the bypass.......plus all the copays........plus all the endoscopy cost.......plus all the nutritionist cost........plus the physiological visit cost......and the initial consulatation with the surgeon. Yes, it is a struggle.

Newbie any United healthcare ***
Dub replied to ibhealthy2's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have UHC and they'll pay 50% if I go through certain doctors and the six month wait. I'm looking into self funding now as a faster option with the surgeon of my choice. -
11 days away - anxious/nervous/scared
Dub replied to jdc121975's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Awesome attitude. This has been a motivating thread in every way. I hope it went well and you are doing great. -
Well done !!!!, That is inspiring to see a person get off to such a strong start. I'll bet your nutritionist is excited to see this. Well done.

Denied now wanting to self pay
Dub replied to Johnston7781@yahoo.com's topic in Insurance & Financing
I"m getting estimates now. First was $21,000 firm........second was ballpark $25,000. -
Thanks, everyone. I may be okay with the gear I already have. It should hold out until my surgery. I was going through some of my old clothes packed away in the closet.....found some older (smaller sizes) clothes that are going to work.

Not a replacement for surgery but...
Dub replied to Sajijoma's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Cool. Thanks. I'm at a point now where I've reached a "teachable moment" and can digest some good reading that will lead to insight on my weight and getting a strategy to losing and keeping it off. -
December Surgery Thread - we rock!
Dub replied to bellabloom's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Simply amazing !!!!!!! -
That's a tough situation that you can't trust him with the fact that you had major surgery and have decided to make some huge changes in your life. You'd better come up with something crafty to explain the incredible shrinking new you. The old "dog ate my homework" shenanigans will only last so long unless he's an idiot.

First hard day (Mentally)
Dub replied to Jasmine Smith's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I think you have nailed down the plan that I will follow, too: One day at a time and things will fall into place. We'll find our strides with this and get through the temptations and difficult aspects. 19 days post op and 36 lbs lost. That is truly awesome. On thing that seems to be a reoccurring difficulty stated around here is that when the weight loss slows...stalls for while......it can be frustrating. For me, frustration was one of the triggers that led me to eating sugary junk. I know that I'll need a plan in place to deal with these times. They are sure to come so I'd better have a battle plan ready to get through it. I had a buddy who recently quit smoking. He had an interesting incentive plan for himself. He has a savings and checking account that he manages with a cellphone app. When he quit smoking, he opened a third account with the same bank. This was his smoking account. He opened it with the money that he'd otherwise spend on smoking for the first month. Every day or every couple of days when the urge to smoke would hit him, he'd simply use his cellphone app to transfer his daily "smoking money" into that new account. He said that seeing that money accumulate is really cool and waiting until the urge is strong to transfer & update it give him a way to address the urge. He's a hunter and into shotgun shooting sports. He said he lets the money accumulate and bought a really, really nice shotgun and other related gear.......guilt free. I'm not sure I"ll do the same thing he did......but I thought it was a cool approach and it's kept him from smoking. We are working through addiction with this stuff. It's tough because there is no need for someone to drink or smoke.....but we still have to eat.....thus we need even stronger plans in place.
