6 days post of is a very sensitive time for your new stomach. I was still crushing pills at that point and taking them with Protein shakes. Maybe you can adjust times a bit and ensure that you aren't laying down too soon after taking meds. Staying upright for a bit and perhaps even flushing system out with Water later on prior to laying down may help. It gets much better later on. You are in the tough stages now.....hang in there.

I simply ensure that I'm getting 80+ grams of Protein per day, 4-6 hours of sleep per day and move as much as possible during the course of each day with the exception of planned down days (weekends) where I actively rest and recover. And then there is coffee.....blessed coffee.

Sushi/Sashimi thoughts?
Dub replied to MelancholyRoar's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Fish is great later on.....but not during pre-op liquid only diet...assuming that's what you have been placed on. No worries, dude.....all foods will be available to you later on. Stay on track and follow your specific plan but know that you'll be able to eat whatever you want later on. Use the current time to lose, lose, lose and to break the old bonds with food. Later on, you'll likely shy away from stuff that you know will not support your ongoing weight loss efforts. And yes.....sashimi with wasabi is absolutely awesome !!!!!!! -
I weighed as soon as I returned home from hospital the afternoon after my sleeve surgery. I was 11 pounds HEAVIER than the morning I went in for surgery. Crazy stuff. It all flushed away over the next few days and then there was a near daily loss for a while. Don't let the immediate post-op inflammation throw you for a loop.

Is this a normal fear?
Dub replied to MelancholyRoar's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Recovery can and should go very smooth if you support yourself by staying on plan. It was a breeze for me. I opted to stay on the protein shakes only for an extended period because...well...because doing so was working and I was a bit apprehensive about the puree stage and didn't want to fool with it. -
Agreed on Quest bars. Loaded with Protein, Fiber and sure to find one of the many versions that appeal to you.

Do You Use Alcohol after Weight Loss Surgery?
Dub replied to Alex Brecher's topic in Food and Nutrition
Very interesting topic, Alex. Prior to wls I was a big beer drinker. Big as in BIIIIIGGGGGG. And big as in fire up the grill and kill a 12-pack of real beer in the process. Post op....things have changed. I no longer drink beer. I prefer higher grades of vodka or tequila blended with low or no calorie mixers. For the most part I've found bartenders who accommodate. For those that don't....there are shooters. I never drink & eat.....unless you count olives in the martinis. lol. As a result of no eating + only drinking liquor = I've found that I "get there" much quicker. I have learned to sip drinks at a "slower than beer" rate. It's been a learning process........one that I truly wish my fellow BP folks would develop a plan prior to trying. Know yer limits ahead of time. As far as the weight loss impact......I usually burn off my drinks on the treadmill ahead of time tha day. My version of "Pay it Forward". -
Worked good for me this morning.......

Your post made me smile. Glad you are getting the good meat. I marinated some t-bones yessaday in a homebrew marinade and grilled them last night. Was told they were on point. I had mine this morning. Sliced cold with a hard boiled egg and some cheddar. Dayum good eats.

Sorry for the vagueness.
It's a line from a Kenny Chesney song.
He's talking about a backwoods church revival....where they are handling snakes.

Here's the thing......you are losing the weight and hope to better enjoy life and living. Hopefully you've added exercise to your daily regimen. Occasional drinks are fine....be mindful of what you are having as mixers in those drinks, though. A good bartender can help ensure you are not getting sugary mess. Vodka and light mixer. Sip not pound down. All things in moderation. Enjoy yourself yet keep on the scale and ensure that you are on track with your overall goals and making progress.

How long is recovery after surgery?
Dub replied to OhHeyMarina's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I took 3 weeks but had an abdominal hernia repair done at same time as sleeve. Had I just had the sleeve....then a week would have been fine. -
Keep on killing it, man !! You are doing great.

When did other people start to get hungry again?
Dub replied to ryan_86's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
13 months post op. The ONLY time I get "hungry" is when I eat sugary carbs....or bread type stuff....crackers.....etc. I'll get "hungry" 30 mins later and want to have more. As long as I eat meats, fowl, greens, vegetables and etc then I'm never hungry. I've even returned to having occasional fresh fruit (apples, grapes and other) and not had those cravings. -
Well said !!!!!

Time to Brag: Share Your Recent Accomplishments!
Dub replied to Alex Brecher's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
12.5 months post op. Off all prescription meds save a new anti-inflammatory I started on Thursday. Received lab work results from one year appointment. Pretty much a glowing report card. Cholesterol, blood pressure and etc all in excellent shape. My sleeve has been awesome. -
I started with going through the "best" hospital in my area....we have several. Turns out this was not a Bariatric Center of Excellence and my insurance balked two months into my program. I swapped over to another surgeon who was affiliated with a Bariatric Center of Excellence and only enough it was through the oldest and smallest hospital in the area. Funny thing is that I ultimately chose to self fund the surgery as it was less costly than actually using my insurance....insane, right ? My new surgeon was OUTSTANDING in every way. He did a great job and was excellent in his advisements and coaching. My suggestion is to locate a bariatric center of excellence. These have proven statistics over time of low complications and excellent results.
