  12. Powerfully inspirational !!!!!!!
  13. My iPhone and a remote charger (Anker brand from Amazon works great and is cheap). The remote charger has enough on it to completely recharge my phone 3 times. Much easier than trying to access a wall plug. Earbuds, too. I'd loaded some iBooks on there as well as music and movies. Some comfortable gym clothes. Make sure your driver home brings a pillow as well as your pain medication. Take a dose whether you need it or not and use the pillow to hold against your abdomen during the ride home. Use pillows to stay propped up in bed... Get up every couple hours and walk. Go on longer walks outdoors a couple times a day.

    Strenth training for a beginner

There is much to be said for using the various machines as they have the correct range of motion built-in. Doing four sets of 12 reps seems to be a good place to start. Group together the machines that address same body parts and do them together on the same day....skip 2-3 days before doing again. You can use cardio as either a warm up or as something to focus on during the non-lifting days. The machines have become my friend more than before. Don't get me wrong....free weights are great. They just take more training and discipline to adhere to proper form. Injuries can be obtained easily if one doesn't know. Trust me, I've learned the hard way.

    Chugging water

At 11 months I can drink at a great rate. A 20 oz bottle of Water in 2-3 minutes if I pushed it. I realize now that chugging anything was not needed.

    help! new sleeve question

For the first few appointments I kept asking my surgeon if he'd actually performed the sleeve surgery. He laughed and assured me that he had. The restriction to your stomach (it's not a pouch.....just a small stomach.....drop the pouch term lest you get heckled severely 'round here.....terminology police will swoop down fast & furious to correct us.......and we even have a resident school marm who detests when we don't use proper line spacing and subject verb agreement.....I'm from the South....therefore she gives me a pass....be warned). Seriously, though.....you'll not likely feel the restriction in it's most demanding state right now. Liquids and soft foods are what's on the menu at the beginning so as to allow your new stomach to heal properly. Later on the restriction shows up and flexes it's muscles for you. Allow yourself to heal and follow your plan. Everything will work out in due time.

    Sexy Halloween costume?

My son and several of his buddies are working for a local dairy farm in their Haunted Corn Maize. I can't wait to go next weekend and see him in action. He won't tell me what his costume is.... I don't do horror movies and the like really well, but, I'll haul my old arse through a dark & haunted corn field at night to enjoy time with him.
  19. Messed up back was the final motivator I needed to have wls. Not only was the back improved...so was every other aspect of my life. Your health and happiness should be the most important priorities for you. Anyone that isn't in accord with that isn't worth your time. Don't stress over his non-support. Let him stay on the sidelines. It'll be a fun process for you as you begin to feel better and better each day. Keep the drama to a minimum, but the focus staying on your commitment to getting healthy. Your only job over the months ahead is to make yourself your #1 job. It may even feel selfish at times. So be it. You owe it to yourself. Do it.....and then take inventory in a few months.
  20. Well done.........looks like are are killing it on the exercise part of the equation and getting active. That is really awesome. Getting active.....becoming a player in a competitive sporting endeavor.....very cool.

    What's the skinny on coffee?

I resumed coffee at 8 weeks out with my surgeon's blessing. Pretty sure I've not missed a day since.

    Probiotics Pre-Op

Best advice I can give is to start hitting the gym now....begin a structured weight training program as alternate days of cardio. You'll have great momentum going into surgery.
  23. Tell them if they are writing a book to leave your chapter out of it.
  24. I'm not much of a vet at 11 months, but it did come back for me...mostly. The first weeks after surgery was the most noticeable. I was sipping an ounce or two of Protein every hour. The flavors of things were more distinct. Anything that was overly "anything" in any direction was not enjoyed. Too sweet.....too tart.....too salty....etc. My biggest aversion was anything that was strongly sweetened with artificial sweetener. For the most part I've reverted back to normal these past few months. There are certain foods that I don 't care for....but it's not a flavor thing. It's just a strong preference to avoid them that I can't explain. Rice and cottage cheese are two such foods. Prior to surgery, I'd eat them without a second thought. Now, though, I just about hurl at the thought of either. No logical reason why.
