    When did you eat sushi?

Two months out I had sushi. I get eel avocado cucumber with no rice, just nori. Or wrapped in cucumber. Felt fine. Edamame is also a great choice! Avoid rolls with fried elements. Sashimi would probably be strange, since you have to chew it very well..don't know if I'd enjoy chewing a slab of raw salmon down to a pulp.
  2. I was sleeved one month ago. I've been with my boyfriend for two years. Him and I are very different, and our families are very different. My family is very inclusive (Come on over for dinner! Invite him to Christmas! Bring him on vacation!), while his family rarely invites me to things, and shows little to no interest in getting to know me. This has been a problem in our relationship, but I really do love him. Ever since I told his mother in December that I was going through the motions to get WLS, I have received a barage of "How much have you lost", "You need to be careful", "So many people gain back the weight", "You have such a pretty face" and tons of other know-it-all comments. At first I brushed this off as motherly concern, but my boyfriend recently let me know that she has expressed in private that she is concerned I can't control myself and WILL gain back my weight. She wants my boyfriend to watch out for that. He defended me but trust me this woman is stubborn. This hurts so me much because I've only met this woman 4-5 times. I've tried to explain my journey, newfound motivation, and focus to her - but even after making this drastic lifestyle change to lose weight, I can't help but feel she is still judging me as a stereotypical obese person with no self control. I had surgery a month ago, what does this lady expect from me already? Sheesh. I am pretty open about my surgery to anyone who wants to know about it - I have nothing to hide... but crap like this is making me wish I told nobody. It is a double edged sword - because once people know, they are expecting change. Any advice? TL;DR: Boyfriends mom never liked me because I was too fat for her son, now post-op, she still is afraid I will be too fat for her son.
  3. Thanks for checking in! I'm doing pretty well. Almost 50 lbs down. Haven't seen his mom in almost two months, she never has really made an effort to spend time with me and after last time I stopped asking my bf to arrange it. Our relationship is rocky right now, a culmination of stuff. To sum it up, he participates in our relationship when it's convenient and is resistant to put the "real work" in. I'm very vocal and he knows what he needs to change, so we will see where it goes.
  4. I was eating eggs 2 weeks post op. After liquids for a month (2 weeks pre, 2 weeks post), it tasted so delicious. I'm assuming you're on liquids right now (this is the toughest part of the whole journey, in my opinion). It is understandable that you are mourning the loss of more delicious foods. You're bored with what you're putting in your mouth right now. But trust me when you do get to start eating again, you're going to have a newfound appreciation for the simpler things. You're forced to savor your food - eat slowly & chew a lot. Because of that, food will taste differently - in a better way! And as you quickly fill up, you'll be satisfied enough. You'll be able to have a forkfull of twirled spaghetti or a couple of bites of a hamburger eventually. But balance is key. I'm almost 2 months out and haven't tried either. I'm sure they would taste good, but I am not seeking out foods like that right now - they're not the best choice for a reason.
  5. My NUT suggested higher fat content dairy products - 2% milk, 2% milkfat greek yogurt, cottage cheese, etc., to help with reaching the calorie goal if you're struggling.

    June 2015 sleevers

Sleeved 6/11... loving it. Liquids were hard. Feel like my taste buds have been reborn. Reading a lot of books, making mood boards... trying to gain as many tools & motivate myself as much as possible!
  7. Wow...that's not a nice thing. I'm sorry, he just doesn't sound like he's ready for a serious commitment. Now that you know, act accordingly. In time, he will be replaced I'm sure. One day at a time. Today I love him. I am not really ready to move in or get married yet anyway, so maybe we will sync up in the future. We will see.
  8. @@muzical1 he is a huge mommas boy, has dinner at her house 4x a week. I'm never invited. Would "stress her out too much". He says he defends me but I know he wouldn't cross her.
  9. @@laguerr13 You are totally right... I am just coming to terms that if I choose to stay with & marry my boyfriend one day, his family is not going to be an additional support system. I've always imagined my future spouses family were going to be like a second family to me. I guess in time I will realize if I am going to accept & live with it, or not.

Got approved! And liquid diet sucks????

I am also 25 and from New York! I was sleeved 6/11. My liquid diet ended yesterday. You will have such a newfound appreciation for food when yours ends too. Good luck!
  12. I was sleeved 6/11. Before surgery I was always a night owl, going to bed around midnight or later. Since surgery I am turning out the lights around 10. I figure my body isn't getting the energy/nutrition it was used to so it wants to rest sooner? I actually kind of like it, feel like I can embrace a longer day. Anyone else notice significant changes to their sleeping pattern?

    pre op diet

Surprisingly my pre op liquid diet was a lot easier than post op has been. It depends on your program but I was allowed any low fat Soup I could purée and push through a strainer. Black bean soup from Panera was my go-to. Post op the thought of eating that right now sickens me! I was also allowed seedless fruits and nut butters in my smoothie. banana Peanut Butter with chocolate whey was and still is my favorite.

    Frustrated

Try some egg drop soup (puréed) - tastes like a scrambled egg. I found it very satisfying.

    How long

Took me forever. I actually started the pre op liquid diet before getting the OK from my insurance. A coordinator for the bariatric program at my hospital took my calls and kept me updated, even chased around some doctors.

    I wish I knew...

You will not be able to get out of/get into a bed or chair without help the first few days.

    Life after the sleeve

I was told no alcohol for a year, and never again if possible. There is research correlating WLS and alcoholism. Addiction transference. Your new stomach will get you drunk and sober you up quickly, making it easy to go back for seconds, thirds, etc throughout the night. I'm not saying you'll never be able to enjoy yourself again but drinking with your friends will never be the same. It's an activity/behavior you'll have to accept drastically altering. Not easy at such a young age when all you and your friends want to do is go out and have a good time. As you get older it will become less important good luck.

    Shopping!

Clearance racks when dropping sizes are addictive.

    Overnight Bag

Makeup remover? You will have no energy to put on makeup! I packed a bag but only ended up using my toothbrush and hairbrush. Bring a change of clothes to leave in. I stayed in my gowns the whole time, commando - underwear bands may rub up on your incisions, same with the underwire of a bra when sitting up.

    Pre-Op Shakes...Help!

Are you allowed fruit or nut butters in your shake? If so peanut butter banana with vanilla whey and vanilla almond milk is my go-to.

I Have A Snacking Problem? Help!

When you are home, engage in activities that keep you away from the kitchen. Make a list if you need to. Paint your nails, read a book, go out for a short walk, plan meals, play on the computer, call a friend! One snack at home before or after dinner is ok - maybe make it count? Incorporate a lot of textures and flavors into the snack, to satisfy your palette. Maybe like peanut butter between two thick apple slices with a couple of chocolate chips. Crunchy, juicy, salty, and a little sweet. Maybe it'll hold you over good luck.

    Post-op Nausea

Yes. I was sure, from what I was told all along, that I would be able to go home from the hospital the next day post op after getting the surgeons required amount of liquids down (1000 cc's!). After the first few sips I knew that wasn't going to happen. I was disappointed in myself and my parents seemed worried and confused. Had to take an extra night. The nurse insisted it was ok and happens sometimes! The next day was better. Don't beat yourself up it will get better with time.

    Sad about missing food

I am a week post op and am guilty of chewing & spitting once every few days or so. It's usually with something crunchy and salty. The first time I did this was pre op with a kettle cooked potato chip. The texture and crunch was satisfying. I obviously don't want to make this a habit and I am pretty sure once I get on my soft foods phase and have more options I will cut it out. The liquids are BORING

    Consipation

I had my surgery on June 11th too! And had a BM 5 days later. It was not easy but I was happy to have it, ha. I started taking 2-3 stool softeners a day once I got home from the hospital. If you don't have a BM within a week of surgery they recommended a suppository. Not fun, I know.
