  1. Sounds delicious! I will try it in a couple weeks!
  2. @@jenn1 What type of shellfish do you eat? And how soon after surgery did you first have it?
  3. @@jane13 How far out from surgery are you? When did you start eating shrimp? And I hear ya on the sweet tea. My "sweet tea" was beer. No more for me! And that's probably a good thing!
  4. Hey VSGers I am three weeks post-op today, and am now in the soft food stage for the next 10 days. Around August 18 I will transition to the "regular" diet as my surgeon calls it. My NUT has discouraged shell fish, both now during the soft food AND the regular diet. However, when challenged, she said it is because they can be tougher. Yesterday I had two raw oysters in a half shell, and they went down just fine. I also like shrimp. I hate the thought of not having any shellfish any longer. Have any of you had any problems with shellfish? I'd be interested to hear your feedback. Thanks!
  5. I am starting to notice the looser fitting clothes as well. Thanks everyone for the feedback!

    3 1/2 weeks post op

I'm almost 2 weeks out and wonder if I'm eating enough. I eat 3 times daily, getting about 400 calories and 70 grams of Protein. Thinking of increasing the frequency due to hunger. And when I get hungry all I want is a cheesesteak. How much do you eat?
  7. My weight loss has stalled the past 3 days. I don't understand as I am only eating about 400 calories per day and 75% of them are Protein. I've heard of stalls later in the process (like around 3 weeks) but not this early. Any of you have similar experiences?
  8. I am five days out of surgery and in the full liquids phase of my diet. I'm wondering if anyone has had bad results with any flavored yogurts out there. I'm looking at trying the Yoplait Greek 100 cal yogurt but it has 7 g of sugar per serving. Has anybody else had any experiences with these types of yogurts either positive or negative?
  9. I was just sleeved at ARMC in Atlantic City by Dr. Samir Patel. He and his office are great!
  10. I was sleeved on July 20. I couldn't get the clear protein drinks down either. I didn't throw up, but I could only take a couple sips. I was glad when full liquids came along. Premier Protein shakes are great! Hang in there!
  11. I was sleeved yesterday and came home today. The clear liquid diet has been brutal. I have Isopure protein drinks but have only been able to get about a quarter of one serving down today. I can eat Jello and take small sips of water, but I don't see how I'm going to get all the protein or hydration I need early on. Is this normal? I am supposed to transition to full liquids tomorrow.
  12. So the past few months I've been absolutely confident that I'm doing the right thing, knowing full well it will change my life in so many ways. But as I wake up today, 24 hours before surgery all I can think of is the difficult moments ahead - not necessarily in the short term (next month) but in the long term. Yesterday I was at a wedding. It was so difficult to keep saying "no" to all the food I was offered, or that others were eating around me. I'm not a big drinker at all but I so badly wanted so badly to have a beer - just one- at a good brewery close to the wedding venue. But I refrained. Second thoughts are spiraling around in my head but yet I know what I'm doing is absolutely the right thing for me to do. I've read so many other stories with very similar tones so I realize that what I am experiencing is completely normal. So I'm moving forward, somewhat tentative but yet confident. Looking forward to the new me. The old me is 53 years young, HW 269 with a BMI of 41, CW 249, hypertension, diabetes type II, sleep apnea, high cholesterol. Looking forward to a healthier life.
  13. Thanks to both of you. I've decided to forego the beer and remain on track. My surgery is Monday. Looking forward too much to the new life!
  14. Hi all I'm scheduled for surgery on Monday. During the 2-week pre-op diet I've been very good and followed my surgeon's guidelines closely. However, we are traveling this weekend and I am by a brewery I've always wanted to visit. I have had no alcohol in two weeks. If I have a beer tonight (Saturday) will it cause problems for surgery on Monday? I don't want to screw up the procedure or be turned away because I had a beer two nights before. Help!
