  1. I'm getting my band this month and the fear that I will miss eating is kicking in. Obviously my eating habits are what have led to the need for the band, but reading about PBing and other issues people have are making me realize how permanent this lifestyle change is going to be. Has anyone dealt with this? Will eating ever feel normal again?
  2. Just wondering if you went through with the surgery and how you are doing?? I was having those doubts myself and came to the conclusion that yes I have lost weight on my own but for me it will be a constant up and down battle. I now have my tool to help me in that battle! Ultimately it is our bodies, our health and our lives that are going to change and for the better so screw anybody who can't be happy for that :-)

    Post Op Alcohol?

I had 2 vodka/water drinks this weekend. They were almost all water and lasted me about 6 hours but the guilt didn't last long :-) And I'm fine. (I think lol)
  4. That is the info that I was coming to look for :-) I was banded 1/25 and have been thinking that maybe they forgot to put it in!!! J/K... I feel some restriction but not as much as I thought I would. But, I haven't had my first fill yet and I'm eating mostly pureed food and full liquids with some solids mixed in. I sure hope to get more restricion with my fill!!!!

    Recovery Time????

I was very sore for about 3 days but I was also only on Tylenol. Any kind of lifting or sitting for long times bothered my port incision so my suggestion is that if you have to sit or are moving around a lot wear something with a very wide elastic waist so it doesn't rub against your incisions. I'm a month post op and am perfectly fine with the exception of a little soreness at my port. Also, your belly might be swollen for a while. Maybe I was different, but the gas I had from day 2-6 was so nasty that I didn't want to be in public.... Just something to consider, you don't know what kinds of 'reactions' you might have... Good Luck!!!!!!

    burping?

It took 8 days for me to burp and boy was it painful not being able to get the air out. I was so excited when I finally had a good one. In fact it is only occasionally when I get a good one up, usually after drinking plain water, but boy does it feel good!!

    fyi on the excercise ?

My doctor is very strict with his diet but not so much with exercising. When I asked him how long before I could bowl again he told me "nothing we have done in there will be bothered" and encouraged me to be as active as I was comfortable with. So I've been up and walking around and trying to be as active as I can be. Nine days post op I was fishing and Ten days out I bowled 5 games. For obvious reasons I will stay away from anything contact or that uses abs but I've had my strength since day 4 post op!
  8. You guys are lucky... My doctor is very conservative and strict on his pre and post op diets. He nearly had a coronary when I told him that I had some tuna and spinach a week before my surgery date so I wouldn't pass out. My post op diet is 2 freaking weeks of clear liquids, then 2 weeks of full liquids, then mushies for I'm not sure how long. I am going c-r-a-z-y on this clear liquid diet. I have been feeling great since about 5 days post op and my stomach has been growling since about 6 or 7 days post op. It seems a bit too long but keep thinking about how yuuummmmmyyyy those Protein shakes will be at the end of the week, and will probably start it a day or two early. It will probably be a LONG time before I decide to indulge in some chicken broth :-)
  9. Hi Karen, I was banded 1/25 as well. On day 2 after the banding, my behind was soooooooooo raw even after using wet wipes so my Mom gave me a tube of this stuff.. Blairex Laboratories Inc. Health Care Products and Dietary supplements .. It is such amazing stuff and has helped so much. I hope your surgery went well !!! We'll be knock outs before you know it :-) Jennifer Not sure that the link was coming through. It's called Boudreaux's Butt Paste, www.buttpaste.com
  10. I should be getting my band this month and am wondering why they say not to drink water with meals. Isn't the general rule, no water (drink) 30 minutes before meals and wait 30 minutes after? It seems that a few sips of water might help lubricate the food and help so it does not get stuck. Very confused on this.

    Why no water with meals?

Thanks so much, it makes so much more sense to me :-)

Do you miss your old eating habits?

I think I was just having a few days of fear and have gotten so used to living the unhealthy, uncomfortable life of a fat person that I now realize that I am once again and for good ready to be thin again :-) Congrats all to your success with the band. Meeting tomorrow with the surgeon to hopefully schedule it for the end of the month. I am sooooooooo ready!!!!

    What's in your home gym?

Pre-procedure, I've got free weights of various sizes, 4 sizes of kettlebells (10lb, 18lb, 27lb, 36lb) a treadmill that has been shrinkwrapped for a year and a half, a great little stationary bike in front of my tv that I've used about 10 times, and bands. But, since I live in Florida, I'm usually outside walking along the bay or doing the kettlebells. Those are my two favorite things to do. Am trying to hit them hard before I can't do them for almost 2 months. I used to do this video called 'slim in 6' that was from an infomercial or something and I really liked it. :-)
  14. Does anyone on here pre or post use kettlebells to exercise with? I am pre-procedure and enjoy doing them and can't wait to take weight off so my back isn't so strained. How long are you supposed to wait until you can exercise with weights again?
  15. What can they do to release the gas before stitching you up? Is it the kind of gas pressure like if you were to go through a decompression after airplane trouble or scuba diving? Scheduling my procedure next month but want to be well informed. As far as the Gas-x, will the chewables be hard to get down? Thanks everyone and Happy Holidays, Jennifer
  16. I am in the process of scheduling my procedure with Dr. Rehnke who is a Journey Lite doctor. Has anyone used him, know of anyone who has used him or any of the Journey Lite facilities or doctors? So far I'm very pleased with their process but trying to do as much research as I can. Thanks :biggrin1:
