Calling all vets- where are you

Three years but I haven’t checked for a longggg time.

    Irony

When I was morbidly obese, about all I ate was carbs. Lots and lots of bad carbs (loaded with sugar and starch). It was very enlightening post surgery to see what an impact carbs had on my health. We are being brainwashed and encouraged to eat highly processed foods at every turn. What a shame! But big corporations have a lot invested in not changing things. Sad.

    Best Gastric Sleeve Book.

The Beck Diet Solution was a huge help to me as well. I got the book from the library so no cost. I took the cognitive tools I needed and with practice, practice you will gain so much will power. I tell myself "hunger is not an emergency, and in xx amount of time I will enjoy my planned snack or meal." Highly recommend this book.

    Cranky pants is cranky.

I think it's safe to say my family was pretty scared to talk to me the first 3 months or so after surgery. Oh well. Two years out and I'm a whole lot happier!!!!

    Sleepy after eating

I'm more tired too. I wonder if my thyroid med needs to be increased? Is it allergies? Is the metabolic effect of the surgery wearing off? Warmer weather? I hope I feel more pep soon.

VET'S FORUM. What the %^&* is going on around here?

Everyone is entitled to their opinion but I'm not a fan of "intuitive eating." I WANT to eat chocolate candy, cake, brownies. I love sweets and eating a high carb diet got me to obesity. I didn't even realize it until I started eating low carb. I'm two years out and to maintain I have to eat mainly veggies, meat and fruit. I eat limited dairy (Greek yogurt or cheese), and grains. I gave up rice, pasta and potatoes and don't miss them. I still track daily and have to exercise. I'm post menopause and hypothyroid. I can't afford to eat intuitively. I never had an eating disorder or needed therapy but understand that others do struggle and encourage those who need help to get it! My morbid obesity was caused primarily by poor food choices, genetics and lack of exercise. The surgery was a godsend for me and I'm grateful every day for this wonderful tool. To the newbies I say: beware of anyone who tells you can eat anything you want, anytime you want. That's a bullshit lie if you want to succeed at losing and then maintaining your weight loss.

    Saying.... Thanks

I stopped coming here a few months back, deleted the app and just gave up on BP for a bit. The nastiness was just too much to take and not at all helpful. I'm glad Alex cleaned house and the vibe here already seems much more relaxed. You may find that slowly, but surely others come back too after a little hiatus.

    Anyone from the AZ?

How did everything go? Dr Blackstone was my surgeon 5/2015 at Honor Health.

    3 days till plastics tiiiime!

Hi Elode. I'm so happy to see you are doing well. You look fantastic. I just had my first consult with a plastic surgeon for a neck lift. We'll see what happens. It's all so mind boggling. You inspire me

    Arizona surgeons

Dr Blackstone did my surgery. She is top notch. I had no complications. But I've seen Dr Reynoso and I really like him too. Dr Swain has an excellent reputation as well. I don't think you could go wrong with any of these fine surgeons but Blackstone is amazing, really knows her stuff.
  11. I struggle with this. I started a new job after I lost all the weight so I don't tell people I had surgery because it's just so awkward but I know there are people where I work that had WLS but have gained a lot back. I so want to talk about it but just hate to open the can of worms. I'm not trying to hide anything but don't want to explain the situation either. Awwwwkward.

    Raise your hand . . .

Raise your hand if you ever felt personally victimized by Regina George. Sometimes this forum sounds more like "Mean Girls" than Bariatric PAL. I've been coming here for 18 months now and it's been this way the whole time. Lol. Never a dull moment.

    Raise your hand . . .

I wish we could all get along like we used to in middle school. I wish I could bake a cake filled with rainbows and smiles and everyone would eat and be happy. Cake! OMG. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App

    Hello Vet's

I just feel vigilant. I weigh daily. I just keep telling myself to respect my sleeve. I don't know if I will ever not fear gaining the weight back. Does that fear ever go away? Only time will tell. I don't want to regain, it scares me.
  17. I went from a size 22/3X to a size 6 pants, 8 or 10 top/dress, medium. I lost 120 pounds since surgery and I'm 5'10". Sizing is so weird and I don't get hung up on the numbers and just try to find what looks best. It varies a lot by manufacturer. I bought an expensive blouse as an incentive piece of clothing and once it fit I hated how it looked on me, what a waste of money.
  18. No regrets. No complications. All excess weight gone. Maintaining loss for 7 months now. I changed my eating habits and like the way I eat now. I love that I will always have this restriction. I feel like I eat reasonably sized meals, I just can't overeat which is such a blessing.
  19. The hardest part for me was finding out how little support I received from a close friend and some family. Now that was a bitter pill. But screw what others think. I did this for me, my husband and kids. I have no regrets, none what so ever. I'm so much healthier 17+ months later.

Jaw surgery + life update. ????

So good to hear from you! It's been over 17 months since I had sleeve done and I've been maintaining for 7 months. I look back and remember what a thrill it was to lose the weight and I'm so happy with my decision to have WLS. Life is good, so darn good ( knock wood). I feel blessed. Like you, the arguing on this site got to be too much and I haven't had anything to say. I just check in now and then for the heck of it. I still like to be inspired. Thanks for the update Elode. You've always been so nice and I enjoy hearing about what's going on in your life. Best wishes on the upcoming procedure.

    Gym ugh

My gym has a lot of diversity in age, size, race and ability. It's a very comfortable place to hang out. I never feel judged.

    Does anyone regret their surgery?

No regrets and not one complication. Lost all excess weight in 10 months, maintaining for five months. I would urge anyone contemplating WLS to thoroughly research surgeons, hospitals and their programs. My surgery was done by a very experienced surgeon at a Center of Excellence. There was a great deal of education and great follow up. A good surgeon makes all the difference imho.

    Salad

My program had us wait two months before having salad and now I eat it every day for lunch without issue. Always have with 3.5 oz of protein.

    DOES EVERYONE LOG?

I log every day using the Lose It app. It's so easy and I enjoy logging my meals every day and my weight once a week. I also keep track of my water on this app. They have competitions you can join and you earn badges for meeting certain goals. I plan to keep logging. I'm 14 months since surgery.

What the hell did I do to my body?

Love it! Not snoring anymore is one of the BEST side effects of surgery.
