    Constipation !

I'm six months out and this has been an ongoing issue. If I stay low carb ( which really helps my weight loss for now) I will have this issue. I saw my gastroenterologist about it and he said miralax is what they prefer I use and it was safe on a regular basis. I don't use it daily but it really does help when needed. I've tried prunes, benefiber, Probiotics, and fiber gummies and none of these have worked for me long term. It's a difficult issue but as someone once posted, not a deal breaker. I just cope as best I can and enjoy losing the weight.

    Where's the "support"?

Amen - when I see something that hits me as "stupid" or " you gotta be kidding me" - I back out of the post and move on to something more interesting without feeling the need to belittle anyone.

Can we talk about Halloween candy?

I've been thinking about this dilemma four about a month now. Before surgery I would buy tons of our favorite snack sized candy and eat them all month long. I just want to buy suckers and other candy I don't care for and won't be tempted to eat. My daughter was not happy about this plan and tried some emotional blackmail to get me to purchase some twix and snickers lol. The jury is still out but whatever I do buy will be purchased right before Halloween and leave my sight once the door closes for the night.

What is on your Trader Joe's Shopping List?

I like their chicken sausages (lots of varieties) and tzatziki sauce.

    Questions for Alcohol Drinkers ONLY!

I waited two months and I didn't detect any difference in how I metabolized liquor. I felt like I got less of a buzz after surgery which seems to differ from most other people on this forum. There really isn't a lot of room for beer so I can only have a few ounces anyway. For now, I'd rather get my calories and carbs from food and that's just my preference. I just don't seem to enjoy alcohol as much I used to. In the past I could drink a whole bottle of champagne by myself . . Good times lol.
  6. I think a lot of people share your fear. Many of us worry we aren't losing enough or fast enough but it sounds like you're doing great. It's not falling off me either but I expect reach goal (100 pound loss) by my surgiversary and that will be truly miraculous in my mind. Pre surgery I think it would have taken me a couple of years to lose that much weight with far greater effort because I would have had a lot more hunger. This tool gives me a fighting chance.

    ONEderland! It finally came!

There is just something so special about Onederland - it just felt so good to cross over this line and every pound I lose moving away from 200 makes me so happy. I will fight like hell to get to my goal and maintain. I never want to cross that line again. Congratulations!!

    Food Intake

I was sleeved 23 weeks ago and even now it's hard for me to feel the fullness. It's all so different compared to before the surgery. I would recommend measuring just to be safe. When I eyeball things and then measure, I find I tend to under estimate the amounts.

Best Advice I've recieved from this site

The recommendation to read the Beck Diet Solution. I got the book from the library and found a lot of great ideas. One of my favorites is "hunger is not an emergency", there will be another planned meal coming along very soon. I used this thought today and waited for lunch. Before surgery I always ate at the slightest hint of hunger and would snack all day long. Now I am happy with one snack a day and three meals.

How long did your hair fall out?

I was just looking at a little bald patch on the top, front of my head just a few minutes ago. The hair loss started about 12 weeks after surgery and has been very heavy the past 4 weeks. I think it has slowed slightly so I'm hoping for the best. I've used biotin since before the surgery and I don't think it has made any difference for me. I'm just embracing the hair loss and not stressing. I would rather lose weight and look and feel better. I figure I can cover up my hair loss but not being obese.

LOW metabolism - sleeve or bypass

I'm hypothyroid and post menopause. I was skeptical I could lose weight with the sleeve but I've done very well. Steady losses and I've lost 63 lbs in 22 weeks. I find that keeping my carbs low helps me lose.
  12. Along these lines, I had to register my bat wings as lethal weapons! They slap me when showering while soaping up - ridiculous ????
  13. It's been over twenty years ago that I last weighed below 200 and I hope and pray I will never, ever cross the threshold again. Here are some stats: HW 276 SW 260 on 5/6/15 CW 198 35 pounds to goal. How I plan to Celebrate - a nice massage and facial. I'm just so grateful for this wonderful tool. I love my sleeve ❤️

    Hunger

I'm 5 months out and mostly what I experience is head hunger. I only have real hunger usually before its meal time anyway. But I am post menopausal and I suspect hormones play a role in true hunger.

    CLEARED FOR SALAD!

I have salad almost every day for lunch always with protein. Today I had a tablespoon of Trader Joe's tzatziki sauce (creamy and delicious with only 1 gram fat, 1 gram carb and 15 calories), and pork loin. It was so yummy and filling. Other proteins I often have are chicken breast, taco meat (made with low fat ground turkey) or Gorton's grilled tilapia. I love my daily salad.

    Tasting foods

It's so individual - what one person can tolerate will make someone else sick. I think you have to experiment and see how each food affects you personally. I haven't found a food that has made me sick and can tolerate anything. The only problem food for me is bread because it takes forever to digest and I hate the feeling of it just sitting there. I eat high carb foods very rarely and I track everything I eat every day. I think you will just have to experiment with trying these foods.

    Emotional Eating...

I hate it when food calls my name! Lol ???? I can totally relate to that. I read the Beck Diet Solution and have some helpful coping mechanisms written on my phone and my list of reasons for losing weight. I find this helpful.

Any Doctor of Yours Hate Your Choice?

You're not alone. My pcp wanted me to do it on my own, his words, and said other patients of his that had surgery had regretted their decisions. When asked him what they regretted he said one was sad because she couldn't eat her favorite foods anymore. Well, I pressed on, he wrote the required letter and I've never been happier about a decision in my life.

When did you buy new clothes?

Buying new clothes that fit makes me feel great. I'm down to the regular sizes now and often buy from Old Navy because the price is right during this size transition. They always have a sale. I bought a good quality pair of jeans for $15 - can't beat that.

Calcium- what does it mean for us?

I saw that news report and I've wondered why I was told to take 1500 mg of calcium a day. It seems like a lot but after I eat protein there is little room to eat much food that contains calcium. I think I need some amount of supplement, I plan to discuss with my surgeon at next visit - they will have most recent blood work info at that appointment.

    Re: Snacks

Knowing your trigger foods is the key. I can have salty snacks in my house all day everyday and don't even think about it or touch it, no problem. Sweets are my downfall. Candy or baked goods. I bought a package of pumpkin spice biscotti at Trader Joes yesterday for "the family" and just took a whiff from the opened package and thought " oh hell no". My husband took it to his office this morning haha!

    Re: Snacks

My sister had bypass approximately 5 years ago. She still wears plus sizes and never got to her goal weight. Soon after surgery she started drinking McDonald's milk shakes. I visited her over the summer and she eats just like the old days with chocolate candy and regular soda being her favorite foods. She has practically no hair on her head and protein is on the bottom of her list. The message here is that surgery is only a tool and the rest is up to you. Many who don't know better think the surgery will be some sort of miracle cure and don't realize how much effort it takes to completely change the way you eat forever. One day at a time.

To tell or not to tell

I've always been of the opinion that people will figure it out anyway. I went to a family party yesterday where many noticed my weight loss. I always say thank you and say I'm working on it. If they want more details I say I had wls, eat low carb and exercise. The only negative response I've ever received was from a close friend that I think feels insecure about her own weight issues. I'm so busy with working on myself that I can't get too worked up about what anyone else thinks.

    Meatballs

I make turkey meatballs and substitute Parmesan cheese for the bread crumbs. Basically I use a pound of ground turkey, 3 tablespoons of Parmesan cheese, one egg, diced onion, parsley flakes, garlic powder and pepper. Meatballs just may not agree with your sleeve, maybe try again in another month or two and see how it goes ????
  25. Same here with the alcohol. No difference post op. In fact I think I felt it more before surgery because I had room for a couple of cocktails but now I can't finish one.
