Tall Women, Tell Me Your Story!
BestDayEver replied to AshleyMidwife's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I'm 5'10" and one half lol. I'm targeting 155. I haven't weighed that since elementary school but I'm 15 pounds from that now and feel like I still need to lose some more and the weight is still coming off pretty well at this point. I'm shooting for a bmi of 22. I'm post menopause so I think I have less muscle now and should probably go lower than I would have a couple of decades ago. I just tried on clothes over the weekend and I was a bit disappointed that I need a size 14 in a dress due to my wide shoulders. I wish the size of the clothes didn't bother me but I have to admit it bugs me a just a bit. Sigh. -
What, specifically, caused you to become obese?
BestDayEver replied to careya123's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I was overweight by third grade. Same year as mom started working and we ate a lot of fast food for dinner. I was a latchkey kid that came home and ate junk food. Weighed 230 by high school. I've only lost weight 2 times, once with liquid Protein diet and other just eating less calories. Always gained it back plus more. With this surgery, I've completely changed how I eat and exercise. I love this sleeve and feel confident I can maintain the loss. I just want to hug my bariatric surgeon! -
Bad to Good: What Is Your Best Recipe Swap?
BestDayEver replied to Alex Brecher's topic in Food and Nutrition
I was craving pumpkin pie over the holidays so I take a cup of Fage 0% and 1/2 cup pure pumpkin purée, 3 small packets of Splenda, 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon, 1/4 tsp pumpkin spice - this makes three 1/2 cup servings. Voila and I have my dessert for the night. I really look forward to this little treat. -

Stupid things people say when they find out you've had surgery....

I know! It's like you cheated on a test. -
What’s Your Attitude Towards Carbs?
BestDayEver replied to Alex Brecher's topic in Food and Nutrition
I'm still trying to lose weight so I keep carbs low, but not as low as when I first started. I think I'm a carb sensitive person and will always have to be careful with carbs. Good news is I don't crave bread, rice, pasta or potato, but chocolate or baked goods still tempt me. -
First plane trip since WLS: a NSV and an ouch!
BestDayEver replied to butterfly23's topic in Rants & Raves
Thank you for sharing your story. I'm fascinated by people's reactions to weight loss. I've tried to analyze why people have such an array of reactions ranging from "fantastic" to absolutely no reaction. Very interesting. I've faced the same thing and I'm still mystified. I think lots of people just don't like change, they pigeonhole you and don't want you to be any different even though they may not like you overweight. -

My first surgery was cancelled because the surgeon was sick. When I told my bff that it was canceled, she said it was the answer to HER prayers and that it was a sign from God that I wasn't supposed to have the surgery. Needless to say I did not tell her when the surgery was rescheduled. That friendship is basically kaput now. -
Fruitcake (Yes You Read Right!)
BestDayEver replied to Proud2BMe's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
The barfing story reminded of when I was in the 3rd grade and ate a half a bag of puffy Cheetos and got really sick afterwards. Still can't eat those things! I hate peas too and always have, big sister tried to force them on me. I say respect people's palates, even kids. -
I think they should be forced to announce at the beginning of each show the percentage of past contestants that have maintained their weight loss. I think the number is very low. I remember an episode where they had a woman do some crazy workout and she ruptured a disc in her back. What a crummy show!

A year ago to the day I had my first consult with my bariatric surgeon, when she told me in one year I could be at a normal weight, I weighed in and now have a "normal" BMI. It's been 8 months since surgery and I've lost 88 pounds, a loss of 98 pounds from a year ago. It feels damn good. I'm now 7 pounds from goal, 17 from a stretch goal. I'm just trying figure out what I want to look like. I'm hoping I'll know it when I see it.

"My Diet is Better than Your Diet" -- random rambling...
BestDayEver replied to LipstickLady's topic in Rants & Raves
I remember when Oprah did the liquid protein diet (I did it too) and carted out a whole lot of fat and wore her skinny jeans. Then she later told a story of having a juicy cheeseburger from room service at a hotel and airing out the room so no one could smell it. I don't think WW will work in the long run. I thought the same thing when I saw her ad - she needs the sleeve. -
"My Diet is Better than Your Diet" -- random rambling...
BestDayEver replied to LipstickLady's topic in Rants & Raves
When I see Oprah doing the Weight Watchers commercials it just reminds me of the MANY times I spent money signing up for their program and not being able stick with it. I never lost weight on that program. I would use my extra points to have a Snickers bar and then I would cave haha. I love my sleeve. -
What I'm looking forward to is the time when people/family don't feel the need to say anything because the new look will just become the norm. What a beautiful day that will be!

It all started at the movie theatre on New Year's Eve. I ate my Protein bar, then some of my husband's popcorn, more popcorn, a few good and plenty, Dots. Then we went to a bar where I had a cocktail, half a cheeseburger and a few fries. When I got home I dug into my daughter's chocolate stash. First chocolate I've eaten in 8 months. It all a felt so familiar, this was old time diet sabotage! In the past I would have completely given up at this point, diet over. I was thinking of all the fattening things I could eat on New Year's because it would still be a holiday. Good news is I woke up and got right back on the horse so to speak and stuck to my eating plan all day without any crazy ideas popping into my head. I'm kinda glad the frick'n holidays are over.

The good news is the holidays are officially over! There were a lot of temptations from thanksgiving through Christmas. Over all I did well and continued to lose weight but I feel like I lost my focus a bit. I'm glad it's January. All we can do is refocus on healthy eating, exercise and move on.

Insomnia after Sleeve?
BestDayEver replied to WalkOnWaking's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I struggled with this too. I had the doctor check my thyroid med because I thought that was the cause and it came back okay. It eventually got better around month 6. -
One year surgeversary!

Fantastic! Congratulations. -
Old Navy has been my choice. They have terrific sales all the time. I buy really nice jeans for $15 when they have them at 50% off. The v neck tees are so cheap but look really nice. I love their active wear and I've gotten it at 50% or 60% off. Just wait for the sales. You can buy larger sizes online if needed.

I made it to the top of a mountain trail today, 3.2 miles to top and back. Approximately 1,500 feet in elevation. I had to stop 5 times just to rest on occasion but I made it. The last time I did this was 24 years ago. Last summer I wrote down why I wanted to lose weight and being able to hike to the top of this trail was one of those goals.

My program required waiting 60 days and believe me on day 61 I had some coffee! At night after dinner, I have the Krispy Kreme k cup decaf and it is pretty good. I have 2 cups regular in the morning.

I can relate to what you're experiencing but I'm happy that you have the courage to make these changes in your life. I find that I just have to ride the wave of people reacting to my choice to have surgery and let them adjust to changes in my food choices and appearance. I just keep going and try to stay above all that other crapola.

This is completely normal. I was exhausted the first four weeks and then it got better. Your body is adjusting to the dramatic changes. It can take up to 8 weeks.

lessons learned at 9 months out
BestDayEver replied to akreese02's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
The holidays are rough - lots of socializing and so much focus on food traditions and alcohol. I kept it at bay but it wore me out. I just wrote a list of fitness goals for 2016 and I'm happy the new year is here in a few days. I'm ready for the holiday food fest to end. Now I'm going to go for my walk! -
