I snored really loud and it was making my husband miserable. I got a mouth guard made by a dentist that pushed my lower jaw forward and that really helped. I no longer have to wear it and my husband says he doesn't hear snoring at night. I did have a sleep study years ago and was told I had mild apnea but did not need cpap.

Congrats on a job well done.

Every once in a while I have my own personal pity party and think "I just want to eat whatever the hell I want to eat", then I pause and regroup and fight the good fight to eat in a controlled manner. It happens. Last night I just went for a piece of gum because that usually takes care of any cravings that I have. As they say, the struggle is real, and it really is a struggle! But the results are worth it. Hang in there, you got this!

Oprah ate my inner skinny person.
BestDayEver replied to katieroybal's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Amen Katie! Every time Oprah says she can't go a day without her bread, I think WW isn't going to keep her excess weight off. I remember when Oprah came out on her stage wearing her skinny jeans and wagon full of plastic fat to show how much she lost on her liquid Protein diet. Then a few months later admitting to eating a cheeseburger in her hotel room and feeling guilty. God bless Oprah, but I don't think WW will work in the long run either, but she'll be a bit richer for it, eh. -
Six weeks out is still very early to push calories in my opinion. Try to relax and know it will sort itself out. In time you will be able to eat more calories and for me, at 11 months out, I'm eating around 1200 a day give or take. At this stage focus on protein and water. The weight will come off in time.

Did anyone get clumsy after weight loss? (and 3 month check up)
BestDayEver replied to james1's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Had the same issue. Broke a toe early on and other minor mishaps. When I hiked I always felt like I was going to fall on my face. It all just felt "off". I would say it got better around month 10. -
Three Weight Loss Surgery Maintenance Models - Abstinence, No Dieting, or Mindful Moderation
BestDayEver replied to VSGAnn2014's topic in WLS Veteran's Forum
I'm so sad when I read about unsupportive family members bringing home or cooking tempting foods. I have to say I pretty much control the food in my home. I do the grocery shopping, meal planning and cooking. Having this control has really helped me avoid my trigger foods. -

Wow. What great info! Thank you Elode. [emoji4][emoji106]???? -
Last summer, just 2 months after surgery, I bought a $60 blouse in a size I knew would fit me when I reached my goal weight. It looked so pretty on the hanger. Well, it fits now but looks horrible on me. Lesson learned. I would recommend waiting. And that "thing" is still hanging in my closet, never been worn out in public!

3 days till plastics tiiiime!
BestDayEver replied to Elode's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
Elode: How did you find a good surgeon? Did a friend refer you? Did you speak with more than one surgeon before picking one? Did you look at pics of their other patients? I want to start the process but have no idea where to begin. I see my bariatric surgeon in May and will ask her for a name or two. -

Elode: you look marvelous, and I'm so happy for you! Thank you for sharing!! -
I think many people are under the impression that they will have loads of energy due to weight loss, but not in the first couple of months. What you are experiencing is completely normal. I would shower, rest, dress, rest, dry hair, nap. Lots and lots of naps. I was worried I would never feel normal again and then it got better after 6 to 8 weeks once I was able to get more calories in, not a lot mind you, but gradually more. Be patient with your healing, mixed up body and mind. Losing weight is hard work and you need lots of sleep.

Gastric Embolization - The Trendy Fake Treatment For Obesity?
BestDayEver replied to Proud2BMe's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I saw this news story too. I think the restriction provided by a well done sleeve is a big key to success. I have doubts that this procedure will work very well in the long run. I also would not want plastic pellets injected into my body. -
Fatigue 6 weeks post op
BestDayEver replied to InnerFitnessModel's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I think feeling tired for a couple of months is quite normal. You're body is going through so much right now and I think sleeping 8 or more hours a night is very helpful. Be kind to yourself and get plenty of rest. -
Three Weight Loss Surgery Maintenance Models - Abstinence, No Dieting, or Mindful Moderation
BestDayEver replied to VSGAnn2014's topic in WLS Veteran's Forum
Another aspect of maintenance that's very helpful is continuing to come to a support group such as Bariatric Pal or Facebook. It keeps me mindful of what needs to be done to succeed and inspires me! -
Three Weight Loss Surgery Maintenance Models - Abstinence, No Dieting, or Mindful Moderation
BestDayEver replied to VSGAnn2014's topic in WLS Veteran's Forum
I'm using the #3 approach. I decided there are 12 days of the year when I can eat whatever I want. I plan what treats I want those days and eat as much as I want, and when the day is over I go right back to my normal low carb/high Protein diet that works for me. If I crave something, I remind myself that I can indulge on my treat day. I like tracking my food and still do it daily using the LoseIt! app. I'm weighing myself nearly every day now so I can make sure I stay on track. I pretty much don't eat bread, rice, potatoes or Pasta except for the rare occasion and I plan to keep it this way. I don't really miss or crave these foods anyway. I keep chocolate out of the house except for when I plan to indulge. I've given all of this a lot of thought because I've been overweight my entire life and NEVER maintained a weight loss before. I always returned to old eating habits. Since that's never worked for me in the past, I plan to stick to my new plan. Wish me luck. I hope I post a year from now that I've been able to maintain my weight. -
GP says to do Weight Watchers instead
BestDayEver replied to careya123's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
My pcp was reluctant to support my decision to have surgery and I needed a letter from him. He said he had another patient that had surgery and she was sad because she couldn't eat her favorite foods . . . really? But he did say he would support my decision and wrote the letter. I will see this doctor in a couple of weeks where I hope to assure him he has at least one patient who is more than happy with their results! -

Congratulations. I appreciate a post like this from a veteran such as yourself. It really inspires me and I'm sure it inspires all of us. Thank you for sharing. I'm just going into maintenance mode and I'm starting to weigh myself more often, it is helpful when you get to this point in the program. -
You look great. Congratulations and thank you for sharing your success. It's very inspiring.

My husband was apprehensive too because he feared I would be unhappy or have complications. I just assured him that I really needed this help with losing weight and he's been very supportive. It's been nearly 11 months since surgery and he really enjoys the healthy meals I prepare and the fact that I'm a much healthier person. If anything, it's made him worry about his own fitness. I just had to proceed with what I knew was right for me and let him come to terms with his own issues. I have no regrets.

What are your other addictions/ obsessions?
BestDayEver replied to Fatty McFatster's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Mmmmmm, I love buying pretty new dresses and the accessories that go with them. Must. Stop. -
I don't advertise I've had surgery but I will never lie about it either. When people ask how i do it, I tell them I had wls with a big smile on my face. I'm happy with my choice but I'm sure there are naysayers and frankly, Scarlett, I don't give a damn.

WLS and hypothyroid, PCOS meds
BestDayEver replied to csawesome's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Well, my pcp said he didn't think my thyroid med (levothyroxine) would be impacted by weight loss but the bariatric office said it should be checked. I insisted it be checked and the dosage was lowered. It hasn't been checked in four months but I think it's ok. It will be checked again soon as I'm due for my annual physical. My loss was very steady even though I have hypothyroid which really amazed me since losing weight pre surgery was super slow. I don't have pcos and I'm post menopause, so a bit hard to compare there in terms of ability to lose weight. Bottom line: get the thyroid levels checked periodically while losing weight.
