Pros and Cons of Gastric Sleeve Surgery
AnneElliot replied to MelissaRose24's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
All the best ladies and thanks for understanding. @MelissaRose24Yes just like you I didn't think I could lose 120 pounds on my own. Probably true I never had the resolve lol. food addiction for real! But the funny thing for me the weight loss with this surgery feels different! There's no satisfaction to it because I did nothing to gain it, no sense of accomplishment!. It just dissappeared in eight weeks highlighted by fatigue and acid reflux lol. The next 50 will go too and I will not probably notice until my clothes fall off. Lol But I will sure as hell notice my arms. Yikes on loose skin! More surgeries in my future. -
Pros and Cons of Gastric Sleeve Surgery
AnneElliot replied to MelissaRose24's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I understand. I didn't mean to sound judgemental. Perhaps being post op now and on this hard road I am no longer as hopeful as I was pre op. This surgery isn't just about weight loss. I can't get off the bus once I lose weight. I still have to live long term with the possibility of complications and the complications with this surgery are no joke. Is it easier to manage high blood pressure and diabetes with meds than deal living with the potential of a leak, twisted sleeve, severe gerd or recurring strictures?. Is it easier to desl with the aches of veing heavier? don't know, at least high blood pressure and diabetes are known fairly well to the medical world and manageable. Just my thoughts right now. But yes we all have our reasons for doing this. Wishing you both success! -
Pros and Cons of Gastric Sleeve Surgery

Best wishes. Do you feel that some of the life threatening complications like leaks, severe gerd and strictures are worth those 50 pounds? -
Pros and Cons of Gastric Sleeve Surgery
AnneElliot replied to MelissaRose24's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Wow. I don't want to sound harsh. But it's rather insane to remove 85% of your stomach for only 50 pounds. Please consider temporary procedures like the Gastric Balloon that are designed for low bmi folks. I need to lose 145 pounds! I You will lose the 50 pounds very slowly as well due to your low bmi Good luck -

Band to sleeve one surgery or two?
AnneElliot replied to My3angels031703's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Ladies as you consider removing your band and going into the sleeve. I strongly recommend taking your time to research the sleeve. It does not compare to the band. 1) You will have significant restriction. I am two months out and I cant eat bread, Pasta, red meat, or rice. Some ppl can and others cant. There's no guarantees which one you will fall into. I will lose weight. But I won't be able to eat like a normal person ever again even in moderation. 2) Acid reflux is a serious issue with the sleeve. I never ever had an issue with the band. I am dealing with rather bad GERD even though I am taking prescription meds. I have chatted with folks that it got so bad over the yrs that they had to revise to gastric bypass. 3) Vitamins! You can't live without them. Daily intake or I will develop issues. 4) NSAIDS! Even if your surgeon tells you that you can take them. There's significant debate on whether sleeved folks should take them or not. These meds are very hard on a normal stomach let alone a thin sleeve! Continous use will most likely lead ulcers which are very dangerous with little or no stomach left.Think about aging and the lack of NSAIDS. 5) You can still get stuck! I just had to vomit food yesterday. You still experience that nasty slime....eww! I cried the first time it happened cause I lived with that for 8 yrs. Please feel free to message me. Think about life beyond weight loss cause there's no turning back with the sleeve. -
Pros and Cons of Gastric Sleeve Surgery
AnneElliot replied to MelissaRose24's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It's good that your concerned. This is a decision not to take lightly. It will change your entire life. I personally find it odd when people call it a tool! Your not buying or getting something from a hardware store to help you loose weight. Your permanently changing your gastrointestinal tract to lose weight. As result there may be serious consequences. You may escape obesity related illnesses. But you may face complications from the surgery shortterm or long-term. Are you prepared to face them? Are you prepared to no longer eat in the same way for the rest of your life? Eating is a part of every aspect of our lives. It's a part of every social interaction. This is a significant sacrifice. If your not ready, there's no shame in stepping back. All the best -

Excessive loud stomach noises
AnneElliot replied to _onceuponatime's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Get it checked out if it's thar loud! It must be hard eating around others -
I am sorry that it's gotten worse! Yes you may need yo up your meds. Or switch to new meds like Protonix or Dexliant. Ultimately you need to advise your surgeon and they can do further tests. I understand if nothing works. The Final solution Is a revision to gastric bypass. All the best

8 Weeks out and having a hard time eating
AnneElliot replied to charro535's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I am 8 weeks out as well. I do not have the issues your facing. I think its possible you have a stricture which could be worsening your gerd. Check I'm with your surgeon. Yes, I believe they do an endoscopy. To see if it's a narrowing of your esophagus. -

How will you manage aftercare? For example if you need to deal with issues your family doctor can't help with.. -
I cannot decide if I should do this or not
AnneElliot replied to BeachMommy2Girls's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
LOL @Berry78. I may have been a bit too frank. Its hard to see folks with pre-existing GERD are recommended the sleve as its truly a gamble. You may be one of thhe few where the GERD is "cured" or among the many where it is worsened significantly, requiring long term meds (woth their own host of potential issues) or revisions to Gastric Bypass. I chatted with a woman on a facebook group who was suffering from GERD, Barrets Esophagus and Esophageal erosion!!! And yet her surgeon said the sleeve was the best choice for her vs a Nissen fundoplication! Well guess what her GERD got worse much worse. It broke my heart for her. I don't know why he recommended it or the whole story. But I can't imagine how the benefits outweigh the risks. So, that's that All the best. -
Inshallah khair. Make lots dua akhi. I am sure the doctor will figure it out.

Obesityhelp.com is great. I couldn't do all those Vitamins. I am barely keeping up with the sleeve ones and its not as critical.

Considering Sleeve Surgery in Mexico
AnneElliot replied to VDH's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
Please think of aftercare. Who will monitor you if you have complications once your back home? -
All the best, I think it's a significant commitment. Many ppl have lost more than 120 pounds with the sleeve by the way... Have you chatted with anyone that had this procedure done? I met a fellow that was 10 yrs out and on another forum he takes 18 pills daily for supplements. I can tell you I take suplements now for vsg not nearly as much as you will need and its far more expensive than pop and chips....those things are cheap. The Patches work for some folks, I am sure your planning on chatting with your nutritionist. Also I really recommend talking to a few ppl that had the same procedure.

I know many skinny ppl in my life that have migraines. So it's not necessaryily weight related. I hope it works for you. But if your leg pain and migraines conitinue post weightloss how will you manage it without NSAIDS? -
So your going for the DS? How much weight do you need to lose and are you prepared for the intense Vitamin intake post op?

Pre Op feeling of FAILURE
AnneElliot replied to krissyleigh's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I wish I embraced the body positive movement more! This surgery is not a tool. Your not buting something from a hardware store to help you lose weight. Your significantlyaltering your gastrointestinal system to solely lose weight. If you don't have significant comorbidities than I would suggest you reconsider the need to do this. Eating no more than a cup of food for the rest of your life is a sorry way of living. Living with the possibility of complications at anytime as we age is a sorry way of living Living without certain foods cause your stomach can't digest them and not taking NSAIDS for pain is a sorry way of living. -
I don't feel full. It feels like an over filled pipe in my chest there's no satisfaction from eating. I hate to eat. I don't feel hungry at all. It's a miserable way to live.

I cannot decide if I should do this or not
AnneElliot replied to BeachMommy2Girls's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
If your not sure don't do it. Your surgeon is on crack, if he suggested you get the sleeve with pre-existing GERD. There are ppl on here that did that and had to revise to bypass. You can ask him and he will rationalize his stupidit. Research on your own and talk to ppl who had to revise to bypass due to GERD. -
It will be harder post op. Your body now is still healthy. I am two months post-op and walking makes me winded. No energy and exhausted
