I agree...protein first...however I have found that by eating some lettuce and veggies helps with constipation.

All docs and nuts are different but for me if I'm not hungry...I don't eat...I drink and drink and only eat when I'm hungry. I'm 9 weeks and still do that. Eventually I will get hungry and eat.

Stitch thread coming out of incision
wahtx replied to kell778's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would call. Happened to me and the nurse just clipped it very close to the skin. -
I heard this once...the first year of weight loss is the surgery. After that it's on you...so basically there isn't much you can do to control it. Your body is in the driver's seat now and you are along for the ride. You are still averaging 5 plus pounds per week! That's awesome and you should be proud! Hang in there!!

Foamies/Dumping? Esophagus Pain? YUCK!
wahtx replied to freelee's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Bacon was fine for me but ketchup is something I haven't tried. I'm too afraid to dump. I've thrown up twice though because I wasn't concentrating on eating. I ate too fast and didn't chew well... -
I woke up with one on and it hurt worse than without. My surgeon let me take it off but not all are the same.

How soon post-op (RNY) did you try protein bars?
wahtx replied to Daisee68's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
9 weeks and still haven't. Doctor and NUT tomorrow so I'm hopeful! -
I was looking about 5.5 to 7 lbs a week. I've lost 71 lbs so far. That includes the 20 I lost the month before surgery. For now (9 weeks post) I've slowed down a bit.
-
I've had that at 7 or 8 weeks...for me it was that i needed more fluids.

Oopsie bread or cloud bread is a good choice. Its has protein and very minimal on carbs...like .5 Forgot to say google either term and you'll find the recipe.

I love salad! I am 9 weeks and first tried at 7 weeks. It helps!!

I am struggling but I force myself to get at least 64oz per day...its tough! But I am a little over 3 weeks post op and otherwise feel great! Good luck!

Hi! Congrats on your progress! My doctor and NUT both told me that dumping can vary from almost immediately to 3 or 4 hours. The other night I had some chopped up grilled chicken breast and just a small cube or two of potato mixed in kind of like a hash. I had 2 or 3 bites and was finished eating and felt fine. I sprang out of bed at 2:30 in the morning with what felt like gas pain...the same pain that I had 2 days post op. That "gas" turned in diarrhea. Well turns out it was a form of dumping. I felt bad the entire day. Of course my doctor said I was lucky because I didn't have the FULL effect of dumping syndrome. Needless to say, no more potato. Now for trying foods...you should eat them one at a time (one meal) to see if your body can tolerate it. Otherwise, if you get sick you wont know what made you sick. Once you are sure you can tolerate it then you would be safe to combine them. Good luck!

I've had lots of gas when waking in the AM but it seems to be slacking off. I also had my gallbladder removed at the same time and I've read that excessive flatulence could be a side affect.

I don't know...I agree with Dub...I think this would be a slippery slope for me. I will bring up with my NUT tomorrow but I'm pretty sure I know what her response will be. LOL!

I am 2 weeks post op and I feel like I can conquer the world! I started my journey at 381 pounds and today I am 340!! A huge victory for me!! A lot more to go but very excited for the future!!!

Hang in there! You can do it!!!

Honestly my binder caused so much more pain in the beginning that I couldn't use it. I asked my doctor about it and she said some it helps and some it doesn't. One of my friends couldn't live with out it.

Almost nothing! LOL! I eat 1 or 2 times a day. So far I've had yogurt, canned chicken with a little low fat mayo and pepper, refried beans with cheddar cheese and taco sauce, scrambled egg, a pureed egg with mustard...stuff like that...I've tried to get creative and make it interesting where I can. Right now I'm craving pizza soooo, I'm going to use low carb pizza sauce, a little browned and finely chopped hamburger meat with some skim mozzarella cheese...sort of a mock pizza...now prior to surgery it was protein shakes 2 to 3 times a day and then a sensible meal...

Soft food suggestions?

The refried beans and cheese with taco sauce are my favorite!! -
I think we have all uttered the words "what the heck have I done to myself". I know I did...but now being 10 days post op with the pain almost gone and actually starting to see the weight drop like an airplane's altimeter, I know exactly what I've done and why. You can do this! It will get better! Drink, drink, drink!

Hi! It is because Caffeine promotes dehydration. After surgery maintaining hydration is very important to avoid going back into the hospital post op.

I was thinking more the powdered creamer over the liquid.
-
My wife has taken this first week off. What an amazing woman! I really needed her here.

What about a little non dairy creamer in the decaf? I'm 7 days post op and still waiting for the signs of hunger before I eat anything. I'm thinking no but wondering.
