So happy for you, Cheri...you got your basement back. It's been quite some time that you have wanted the repairs done. I hope you have a wonderful time hosting TG and spending time with your family in your new space.

The band *does* fail some people (long)
Apples2 replied to ElfiePoo's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Elphie...wishing you all the best (and insurance coverage, too) as you head towards your next step to a healthier you. It was so good to read that you got relief from your shoulder pain after your unfill. -
Good job on holding up again Damned Sis...there...I spelled it out for you. Rotten behavior on their part. I am sure your GM doesn't want to be in the middle of sister stuff and they should smack themselves for doing so. I will PM you tomorrow on the AZ thing

Janet...I agree on the diabetic eating stance that you take. Even though DH is not a diabetic, both his parents are/were. I am very careful how I pack both DH and DS's lunch box. A treat once in awhile but 98% of the time all our meals are well-balanced and are void of a lot of starch and sugars. (Until 3 yrs ago, this was not the case). Any baked goods are for special occasions and usually go to the freezer or out of the house because they are too much of a temptation for DH. He is within the weight range that he should be in and always has been but if it were up to him, he would eat crap every meal and I believe would steer him right down the trail both his parents experienced with diabetes and the other health problems that come with it.

Hey 50 & over gang We have a new spot
Apples2 replied to IndioGirl55's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Wendy...I was required to lose at least 3lbs/month on the 6 month medically supervised diet. Best to do a check with your doc's office and ask them that question. But, from what I've heard, most take your intitial weight from your first visit with your lb doc. I felt I was more prepared for what was to come after surgery by losing 52lbs during the 8 months prior to surgery. -
FIL and MIL lived in Arizona City for 6 months out of the year for 17 yrs after retirement. They quit going about 10 yrs ago when she went on dialysis and he missed it terribly. He is taking his motor home and going to stay in the same resort where they had their home that they sold. He loves to camp in the desert also so the motorhome will be ideal for that and hoping that my DH will take some time to go camping with him. Sorry for your change in plans...hope you can fit all the fun into the shortened time period.

Janet...thanks for posting that food site. A nice one to have for everyone. That doc is the one and only surgeon that does the procedure at our clinic. I will drive the 70 miles to another b/4 I would have him again.

Gaining weight with the lapband
Apples2 replied to Dune's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Thanks for the compliment, Dune. I truly believe that the "miracle moment" with the lapband or any other WLS comes prior to surgery. (To Oprah, it would be the "AH-HA" moment). Working diligently to find and understand all the information a person can, making a commitment to yourself that you will give 100% to making a reasonable plan for yourself that will work to get the weight off after surgery, and just plain and simple being prepared for the life changes that will need to take place in order to be successful and that there is no looking back. -
LauraK...for some reason I just don't look at ppl's tickers. Noticed yours with your last post. Woohoo...you are only 18lbs from goal. You have really worked. Good going!

Great...your idea of pulling back and letting your sisters who live within driving distance of you DGM take care of her errands, etc. might be a good one. Let them take over that role. Sometimes when it comes to judgemental family members, you lose before you even start the game. PUT YOUR FOOT DOWN. Don't give them the opportunity to pounce. Love your grandma up and make your scheduled visits happy ones without the crap. You did all the caretaking when you were in Denver. Let them handle it unless you think your GM is not being taken care of. I'm feeling pretty good except for the gas and have been walking since I got home in order to get rid of it. The worse part of this morning was that the doc went out into the waiting room and royally chewed on DH (yelling and very animated) accusing me of not following his prep. BS. DH told him I did it exactly per his instructions. When he started mentioning the clear liquids for 48 hours, DH showed him the info I had which included none of what he was talking about. No apology to DH though. He just went back to his office and threw a blue folder at him with the info I SHOULD have gotten. Like I stated earlier...won't schedule him for my next one. What kind of popcorn did you eat that you are feeling so badly about? I thought it was the reduced fat one. I know you have said that popcorn is something you feel out of control when it is in your house. I have to have my popcorn fix each night. I eat an entire bag (reg size...not 100 cal) all by myself. And, yes, I don't so much have to worry about the cals but I do eat the healthy low fat kind. I absolutely cannot eat the yucky/gross fat loaded ones. I often use my air popper, a little spray and cheese shaker on mine.

Hey Bwhitty...your date is approaching quickly. Are you on a liquid diet prior to surgery? Nice that your family supports you. Just jump on with any question you might have. Nice group of ppl here in all stages of the LB journey. Stick around prior to and after surgery. It's nice to be able to talk to ppl that have been down the road you will be taking. All the best to you!

Hi to all that I omitted from post
-
Well...Janet, you were right. Not the prep that I was supposed to do. I was by no means cleaned out and did not have the "urge" at all as I stated till 11pm. Went a couple of times and did not even go this morning b/4 I left house. (TMI...sorry) They did not give me all the instructions. They did do the procedure (after a couple of hours of very harsh lax trying to get me cleaned out) and had one pollyp and filled me with LOTS of gas due to not doing the correct prep. The doc's nurse sent me one page on instructions with the 15th of Nov as the day to do them. Well, came to find out the big blue folder they send to patients was omitted from my instructions. I even called his office yesterday and asked about their prep sheet. Anyway, correct was was to not eat anything after midnight on the 13th (Sat), do the prep I did yesterday with Miralax and dulcolax and then do the regular harsher prep stuff starting at 8am yesterday. I'm good to go for 5yrs and I am thinking I will be travelling to the clinic in Alexandria for that. It's done. Phyll...have not had the chance to try the chicken yet but thinking that tomorrow I will make it. I always stand my chickens up in a roasting pan when I do them. I open a beer and shove it up the cavity. I have a similar recipe for a BBQ roast chicken that is slow roasted that I do the beer thing with. Also do it on the grill that way. I am thinking I will like the combination of herbs/spices in this recipe you posted. Thanks. As far as going to church...I've been missing it. We never missed a Sunday for years and years and we had something (bad...preist sexual abuse thing) go on in one of our local Cath churches and both DH and I walked with the intention of finding a diff church but could never get him to go. When we married I told him that I would not go to church alone...wanted and needed to go as a couple. Long story short...missed going, missed the involvement I used to have and the social aspect of it also. As far as FIL goes, we will be close enough to him in AZ that we can see him a few times a week. He is going back to his old neighborhood and still has some friends there. He is as spry as they come for his age. He could pass for 65 yrs old. Jodi...thanks for the holiday tips. Arlene...have a good trip. Make the best choices possible and just enjoy yourself. TX...nice to hear of how much movement you have in the shoulder. Keep it going. Linda...I think the pouch test should be an annual requirement with a banded person and also it can be such a good thing for struggling bandster to help them get back to the basics. Miss you. Lori...if you ever do get to MPLS for some reason, I would have no problem making the 4 hour trip to have lunch or to shop. MOA and I would take you just up the road to my fav shopping center. Gotta go take a few laps around the yard. They blew me up like a nickle balloon and pretty uncomfortable. Need to get rid of it. BTW...a big thanks to all for listening to my B&Ming yesterday and this morning. Loves

Ewwww....Poor Girl! Hope today is better. It's not the stomach flu, is it? Stupid, stupid Doctor. Cannot believe what he prescribed for me as a prep. NOTHING...until 11pm and I drank what I was supposed to early in the day. And his recipe didn't do much except for keep me from sleeping. Tired, hungry, feeling sick and pissed is not a good combo. I might just get turned away. I had extreme nausea (upper stomach) all day long. I am not a person to ever lay down during the day. I could barely get off the couch after 5pm...that's how sick I was from that Miralax. Never again. And, he'll be lucky this morning if he can get the boot out of his A$$ after I tell him what I think of his cooked up plan of action.

Csolo...welcome. I will let Janet respond to you (Indiogirl). Just wanted to tell you to jump in with any questions you might have. As far as you friends are concerned. You wont be doing this procedure for them. If they want to support you in your decision and be there for you, that would be wonderful. If not, just go about doing what you feel is best for YOU. Wishing you the best!

Arlene...one thing to watch for when eating off a buffet or any meal ordered...the sauces and gravey tend to have lots of flour or starch in them. You can always scrape it off but so many hidden carbs in them.
-
I had to do 5 ducolax tablets and 238gr of Miralax with 64 oz of Gatorade within a 2 hour period of time. I was such a good girl to do it all. Arlene...Great is right...you can eat at a buffet and cut the carbs. You know that old saying..."Don't put off for tomorrow what you can do today". We don't always want to be saying "I'll start my diet on Monday". I spent so many years doing that.

Is it possible that I could be laxative resistent??????? LOL... This is rediculous. Been at it most of the day and now done with ALL of my liquid prep and the dulolax and all I feel is the nausea (better now though). WTH? Not like you guys want a play by play. We'll see. Arlene...you can get egg whites in Vegas. You can get all kinds of protein in Vegas. You can do a routine with no carbs in Vegas. Hugs

Great and Sandy...hope tomorrow is a better day and the crud leaves your houses

Junking up the thread.... Just had to share another whine. I didn't have any poopcicles on hand so stopped and got some. Now, you have to realize we live 15 miles out. Red and grape are not allowed but orange is. So, as I am in the freezer section I am counting orange. OK...6 orange will get me through. I get home and there are 2! Damn the person who loaded that package.
-
Melissa...happy to hear you got an unfill and that you are "starting over". Hope you get some relief from your headache. Laura...leave to you to do a happy post about my prep...not what I want. Sympathy please! LOL I LOVE the photo of DH and DS in the pool. How cool. And, you DO look happy, Laura. Keep working that band!

Great...it's great that you will be getting back into your P90 routine again. I remember you posting about how much you worked out at home prior to your knew replacements. I sure will enjoy getting the old Lori back. What I mean by that is.....I miss your enthusiastic posts about your exercise routines and miss your positive posts about what you ate for the day. I really, really miss those posts. I get email notifications from Coldwater Creek. I don't think I have ever ordered online from them but I clicked onto their clearance email that they sent me today. I looked thru all of their clearance items. OMG...really good deals and a lot of the items were for winter. Just wanted to share if anyone is looking for clothes at a good price. Worth a look. I didn't order anything (in need of nothing) but if I needed clothes, my shopping cart would have been filled up. Feeling very nauseous from the Miralax and Dulcolax combination. Not tough drinking it but it is upsetting the stomach. Whine. Going to go lay down and might just have to take my first ever anti-nausea med. Bleck. )(*&^%#@$^%&

Ooops...forgot to post the "tip of the day". I cannot take credit for this one...got it from another bandster on another thread. Was getting tired of my Viactiv chews. Once in awhile or every other day would be fine but have been chewing those things every day since b/4 LB surgery. Need a change and found one. Also, wanted a change from my Flinstone gummies. The following were recommended and they are wonderful. Soft and no rotten vitamin taste to pick up on. I went on Amazon.com and ordered them. Vitafusion calcium 500mg...130 gummies. They are sooooooo good. The orange taste like a dreamcicle. (variety of flavors in the bottle). 25 cals/2 gummies. Also ordered Vitafusion Fiber gummies (20% of required fiber in 2 gummies). 10 cals/2 gummies and are sugar free. They also taste great and not vitimin taste.

Jodi...good luck with getting your contracts in place for the program. What a good momma....sounds like you did just the right thing for poor little Dazzi. Stomach flu...yuk. Hope you don't get it. Do you keep anti-nausea meds on hand in case you do get it? LauraK...oh good...according to you I have a little wiggle room and can whine a bit more on the thread. Kelly...having to get new tires or repair ranks right up there with fixing the water heater, water conditioner, frig, dishwasher, etc. I don't like those surprise maintenance costs. Here goes....*&^%$#@*(())))%%$##. Tomorrow about this time, all will be good.

Thanks for the recipe, Phyll...looks like a good one and will make sure I have the ingredients on hand to make for tomorrow night's dinner. Num
