Ding...Ding...Ding...Ding....AT GOAL!!!!!
Apples2 replied to Apples2's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I have never posted b/4 and after. Not sure if that's my bag. Maybe someday but thanks for asking. -
Hey...made goal this morning. 106# gone. I feel so good, have so much energy and the cloud of obesity has blown away. I love my band.
-
Hey Long...I hate to say this but "What a Loser"! (joking). I have been taking Biotin since the day I had surgery. Also take Vitamin E. No hair loss so far. I hate to jinx that but I have my hair thinned every six weeks when I get it cut. I have way more hair than a person should. I still don't want to start losing it though!

Congrats on the 75# lost, Long. Isn't every milestone just a lot of fun and encouragement to get to where you want to be? You've done so well. I was able to hit goal this morning. 106# gone. Feels wonderful. I could just cry when I think about how I felt about myself a year ago. That's all behind me now and time to live life that I would have only dreamed about a year ago. Again, congrats on the 75#s. Coach? Leather coat? Both? Oh my! -

Thanks Linkoop...yeh, I pretty much stuck to my doc's plan. 1/2cup 3x daily. I did treat myself once in awhile though. As far as the skin...I lucked out on that one. When I started this process I thought for sure I would need a TT because I carried soooooooooooo much weight through my middle. I think that watching that I got the required Protein helped not to lose muscle mass and also carried me through this process with excess energy. My tummy is flat and I don't have the dreaded excess back flab. My arms don't keep waving when I have stopped. A lot of this depends on genetics, I believe. Wishing you luck with is process. As I stated above, the best resource to keep a person motivated and educated is this board. -

Hi Cappy...want to wish you happiness and a successful lapband journey. If you read a second post by me above, I lost over 50# b/4 being banded. Had to do the 6 mo. medically supervised diet and decided to just start with the weight loss at that time. As far as obstacles go...making the decision to do the LB is one big obstacle in itself. It's a huge decision. When a person comes to the realization that once that LB is in your body, your way of eating and your life changes forever. It is all such a positive change though. About the only advice that I can give is to follow ALL of your doc's orders when it comes to eating, follow-ups, etc. Do not sabotage your good intentions by eating "slider foods", not exercising. It's all up to you to make things work. One of the best resources for support that I found was this board. I was very lucky to not run into any obstacles physically. I guess the one thing I would have done different is to have gotten another fill about a month ago to have a little more restriction. (I have a fear of being too full. This comes from many years of dealing with acid reflux. I had a haital hernia repair at time of surgery and have not had acid reflux since). If I would have gotten that fill, I would have been a little more satisfied with my 1/2 cup 3x daily. I am getting that fill soon. I do exercise on a daily basis whether it be a 4-5 mile walk daily or just working out with a dvd. I did not join a gym (mostly because we are 15 miles from any town). To answer your question about how this journey was for me...it's work but there are so many positives along the way, i.e.: the increased energy, the way a person feel about their accomplishments...this all outweighs the work that needs to be done. The only other things I have to add is that I KNOW that this is the best thing I have ever done for myself. I will be 53 in about a month and I feel better than I did at 19 yrs of age. -
PLEASE...I notice a number of people eat potstickers. Never had one...no idea what they are (naive in potsticker dept.). Can someone tell me the nutritional content? Today: B- Didn't have time to get it in L- 1/2 Chicken Keiv (squeezed butter out), 1 broccoli spear, 1/4 cup fruit (Had a volunteer banquet) more than I usually eat. D - 1/2 cup honey mustard chicken
-
Hey JD...are you feeling restriction with the 4 fills that you have gotten? I have had two fills in a large band with a total of 6cc's. I sway back and forth whether I need another fill. Most days are good but other days I am very hungry and feel I am doing this all by myself. I have decided in the last couple of days that I will ask for a fill at my 11/04 appt. Doc gives .5 at a time and can get an unfill day or night if I need to. My biggest fear is being too full but know that I some days work hard than my band. Decision made and gonna go for that fill. Want to keep this thread going and stay in touch with all the June 2008 friends. We started with a mega amount of people and would be nice to hear from some of them and how they are doing. Sounds reasonable, right?

Hey...where all you Jazzie June people? Everyone doing great, I hope. CathyChatts? I'm calling for you!!!!!!!!!! Where have you been??????????

Nope, far from The Queen. I started eating like a LB person back on 11/22/08. Figured as long as I had to do the 6 mo. medically supervised diet, I may as well get a head start. Actually, I think it helped me in the long run. Not such an adjustment after surgery. I am soooooooooo thankful for my band! -

Mornin' girls...the same test and a psych visit was also required by my surgeon. But, at my last support group meeting the coordinator mentioned that the surgeon changed the psychologist he had been using in our area. Seems that she was just giving everyone the "good to go". There were too many having issues and doc feels that they were just not ready or not meant to be in the program. A GOOD psych evaluation does harm to no one! I would have jumped through way more hoops to have the opportunity to have the band. (Even though there were many to jump through). I guess my point is; whatever it takes.....we all need to make sure we are ready for what is coming after the band. If not prepared...there will be problems. -
I'm going to jump in here with my own personal experience and how my surgeon guides his patients through the weight loss process. Doc says to shoot for 62g /daily with occasional carb treats. Throughout my weight loss process, I made sure that MOST days I ingested the required amount of protein and allowed the treats at least once a week or on special occasions. Did not want to deal with deprivation as I did with every other diet I had tried in the past. On those days that I did not meet the required intake, I did not try to make up for it in the following days. Just saw it as normal. I was 135# throughout my 20's and 30's. I had more flab then than I do now at 137# and at the age of almost forty f'...n fifty three. I do believe in the theory that ingesting protein and few carbs during the weight loss process does help with the loss of muscle mass. Also, I believe that getting enough protein does help with having added energy thus making it easier to get through the weight loss process. Does that help SNT?

Phyll...I am sure Janet is devastated. As JoannMarie stated, she was just talking about her family today and had spent a good share of her weekend putting albums together. She will be in my thoughts and prayers.

Yesterday: B- Greek yogurt w/3Tbls soynuts L- 5 bacon wrapped shrimp (I undressed them) D- 1.3 oz beef jerkey S- 1 oz. pickled mushrooms Today: B- Too rushed...couldn't fit it in L - 1/2 cup chicken with LF gravy D - 1/2 cup salmon/mayo S - 5 pickled cocktail onions (I'm on a pickle kick)
-
Hey Long...Thank goodness you didn't get the flu. Hope it passes you by. Woohoo.............size 16 jeans and from the Gap!!!!! Way to go!!
-
Janet...I buy the Greek yogurt at Walmart (which is 60 miles from us so I buy for at least a month at a time). Brand name is Oikois. 90 cals. There is a vanilla flavor too for 110 cals. I like to squirt a couple of shots of my DiVinci SF flavorings in and put some soynuts. I look forward to it every morning. I do know now that I need a fill and thanks for being a sounding board on that subject. I am hungry all day again today. Like I said, my surgeon does my fills and he is very conservative when it comes to fills so know he won't over fill. As far as the liquid Tylenol PM...doc thought it was the PM ingredients. I never want to feel like that again. Almost had DH call an ambulance (I even scared myself...I am one not to panic about much of anything). All behind me now and almost afraid to try reg Tylenol again.
-
JoanMarie...I was back to my energetic self today...thanks for asking. I took the Tylenol PM because I had not slept the two night previous to that. I had been really sore because of my hernia repairs. Never going to touch it again. I can count on one hand the number of times I have taken any king of sleep aid. I am sure I will still be able to take reg. tylenol. Doc thought it was what was in the sleep aid part of it. All is good today. Will visit more with you girls tomorrow. Sunday night is reserved for DH!

Yep, Becky, feeling much better tonight. That episode I had last night wiped me out for the entire day. But, after I made the guys supper, I made six dozen Cookies and had a hard time sitting down so I think I am back to normal Sounds like you are getting some excersize in. Keep going after it, Becky, it gets easier with every workout. Before you know it, you'll be at the 50lb spot. A nice milestone. Have a good Sunday everyone!!!!!!!!!!!

I want me one of them there bidets. Gonna set it on "firehose strong and the hot setting". There will be no more boredom in this house! -
Thanks, Long. I know I will be back to normal tomorrow. Just hanging out and reading today.
-
BBK...now I feel like an a$$ saying what I did above. Thought it was a DH thing you were talking about. Definitely inappropriate display by poster.

Ended up in the ER for half the night last night. Took a dose of Tylenol liquid PM about 9pm. We went to bed about 11pm and right off the bat I knew I was not going to get sleep last night. My tongue got thick and I could hardly get my words out. Then started the extremely anxious feeling throughout my chest. That feeling would then spread down my arms and then they would jerk uncontrollable. This would happen every 10-15 seconds. After awhile I called into the nurses station and she had me come in. They think is was an allergic reaction to the liquid Tylenol. They kept me for a few hours, gave me something to calm the episodes down and knock me out. Well, made the 15 mile trek back home and they started up again. Did not settle down until 5am. Weird! Today I feel like I've been through the mill.

Thanks Janet, Each and everyone of my meals include at least 3-4 oz of protein that comes from meat with the exception of my Greek yogurt that I eat in the morning because I just plain have to get it in and I am a little tight. It has 15g protein and I know it probably goes right through but as least I am getting my nutrients. I will take your advice and schedule a fill. Been on the fence long enough
