Thanks, Arlene. I just caught up with Janet. On a normal day I am diligent in getting the right combination of protein, etc., etc. etc. Today I decided that since it was my bday, I would eat whatever I wanted and not count fiber or anything. Are you guys ready for this??? Breakfast: 1 cup steel cut oats with raisins, dates and brown sugar. An hour later...20oz of white chocolate capacino. An hour later...a Snicker Marathon bar...an hour later...boiled egg, ham and turkey...an hour later...Atkins choc/PB protein bar....hour later...another 20 oz capacino...an hour later..6 oz black berries....an hour later...20 oz hot chocolate...an hour later...1.5 cups Kashi crunch cereal...an hour later....6 oz black berries...an hour later 1.5 cups Kashi crunch cereal...now I am sipping on another capacino. DO NOT TRY THIS AT HOME!!!! There will come a day when all of this catches up with me and I will need to put the brakes on. Doc's nurse gave the OK that stomach is empty and hour after a meal so I do eat every hour on the hour. It's actually work getting in what I need each day to maintain.

Janet...not so bad being alone tonight. I have had many delightful bday parties. Like I said, farming has to get done. We are sooooooooo late this year and have to get work done when it is possible. My 50th party was just awesome. Over 250 ppl there. DS (who was stationed in Iraq at the time) and DS who was going to school in FL planned it all from afar. It was a surprise party and youngest DS showed up which was a further surprise. After that party and how special it was, I need not further parties. DS planned karoke for the party (yep, momma loves to sing) and got on the mike at the end of the night and hollared "Party at our house". Well, party finally over at 5am. Wall to wall ppl in showed up at our house.

Thanks Melissa...not much can be done except to replace the damaged bin. We have good ins coverage and life goes on. Could have been much worse. Thanks for the bday and annv greetings. Anniversary (30th) was on the 10th.

Janet...hope that pickles moves soon. I snack on sweet pickles all the time. Bread and butter and the little tiny sweets are my favorite. Also love the sweet baby cocktail onions.

Janet...got done with apt about 4pm and locked it up for the last time. Moved out the last of it when son from Wyoming came today with his trailer. Filled nail holes and did a good vacuum job. All the rest of the cleaning we did yesterday. Yes, sad to lock it up but OK with it as it was a 3 week job or more and ready to come home to catch up here. Have fun playing Bingo with your young chicks. I also have friends of all ages. I often said my "mom" was the youngest friend I had at 89 yrs old. She was up for anything at anytime. Ummmmmm...as far as the bday dinner...what bday dinner? Sitting here alone. Guys are all out in the field. Will see them about 10pm and will feed them their dinner then. They all had lunches packed to get them through the day. Have had MANY bdays and anniversarys by myself. Farming has and always will come first. Our livelyhood. I've got the devil sitting on my right shoulder tonight telling me just to go to bed with my book and let them fend for themselves. But, there's two beef roasts (4lbs each) in the oven, potatoes made, veggies ready to steam, beer bread fresh out of the oven and pumpkin custard for dessert. I could put a pout on but there's no one around to see so just would be a waste of time. Will sit down with the LA and NY Times crosswords and turn on the Antiques Road Show. Meeting a couple of friends tomorrow late afternoon. Having drinks....I'll be the DD. I never mind doing that. Going to pick them up and drop them off and let them enjoy their beers. They both live on farms and have about 20 miles to drive home and want them delivered safe and sound. We will have a good visit and bitch about our farm husbands and make our worlds right again!

Mornin' Julie...no let down...I should be OK with locking the doors. The place is so clean and that would make her happy. It's been all ripped to sh_t for three weeks with us working in there and that would have driven her crazy. She would love to see it all spit shined again. I will be fine. I do my weeping in the morning, take it all out on DH during breakfast and then I do pretty good. LOL. He's so good to me. I just sit and vent and he sits with his eyebrows up wondering when the hell I will be "normal" again. She's gone, I accept that...no regrets...never left her without hugs and "I love yous'. Life is good!

Janet..on your questions about feed. Nope, we do not have livestock. We do future contracts on corn and that is why we have so many storage bins. Our corn gets hauled to our local elevator and then gets shipped by train out to the west coast...our grain all goes for food products.

    I'm here to help...

Janet...we have 80,000 bushel bins. They are made of steel and store our grain. When we bring the corn from the field in semi-trucks, we dump into an underground pit and augers take the grain into the dryer bins to be dried. We are unsure how the last two fires have started but are suspecting that these are defective dryer motors. DH has farmed since the late sixties and never a fire. No grain dust to start it and he keeps everything emaculate. Only fire we have had are with these new type of motors. I called ins company today and asked them to investigate if there is a high incident of fires with these motors. Why should our ins. company put out $$$ if the problem is not theirs? Your house sounds like mine when it comes to having company. If they don't feel at home and get their own beer, they'll miss out. Heading to move the last out of the apt this morning. Bro did not show up...had to travel and had some troubles (10 hour trip and half way through noticed his wife forgot her pain patches so had to go back). Anyway meeting him at 11. I should have been in there by now but on the phone all morning with bday calls. Yep, the old ticker turned over to 54 at midnight. I used to wake up saying "Another year wider". Now I wake up and say "Another year wiser". Yeah!

Hey Janet...sounds like you guys had a great time. Isn't it nice when you have "company" at your house that just does not feel like "company". If I read Eva right, she's a down to earth type of gal and lots of fun. Our loss from this last fire is (our guesstiment) about $20,000...same as last year. $1,000 deductible but second claim in a week's time. $2,000 loss on my bracelet last week. No deductible on that. I HATE turning in claims. We went for 20 yrs without one. Bummer but life goes on and guess that's what we pay premiums for. Could have been much worse. Could have lost all 10 bins and the contents. (80,000 bushel bins each). Oh...I gotta get my dog to smell like me. Wonder if they make a "Rain" scent for dogs. Wonder if it would cover up the slough smell from going swimming in the swamp. (the dog, not me). I'll have to remember my camera on Sat and post photos of me and Lori. I never get nervous about meeting new people. But, I feel like I've known you guys for years. DH says (he's a little shy at first and then fine) he wishes he had that gift. Well, pretty hard to be in the business I was and make cold calls and be shy. Darn...that battery virus struck again! WTH? We should all be immune to it soon. You would think our tolerance to it should be built up by now. You all have a great evening. I'll be heading to bed soon with my new book. DH is on fire patrol for a few hours. Just happy it didn't happen on my watch. He had just taken over at the dryers for me when it happened. I had been watching the burners for the four hours prior. Gotta make sure I have 911 on speed dial! Tomorrow is lock up for the last time in "mom's" apt. Helping move the last of it out tomorrow morning, filling some nail holes and that's it. Helped load the biggest share today that went to daughter. Good and sad feelings about being done. But, good thing it's done cuz I will be on bin patrol from here on out (except for Sat when I meet Lori....no farm detail that day).

DH is all for that turkey recipe. We are having an usually late corn harvest this year. We had a very cold summer and very cold October and the corn did not dry down in the field like it should. Very high moisture still. Will cost many $$$$$$$$$ in drying costs. Just one of those years. Gotta take the good with the bad. As DH says...we always get the crop in the ground and we always get it out. He is such an even person. Just a few minutes after our fire, he was in the house laughing at your turkey recipe and commenting on the fire. No big deal, he says...just one of those things. I should worry for hire. I'm still panicing.

I don't know if you girls remember me posting about this time last year about a fire we had at our bin site. There were so many fire trucks coming down our road, we could see the lights for miles. Well, just as I was hitting the post button on my last post, DH hollared....another bin fire. Same story, second verse. Uhg! Just a few hours into beginning our corn harvest....hope it's not a omen of how this harvest will go.

My youngest DS was a chef at the Balooga Lake Lodge in Homer, Alaska when he was 19-20 (his night job). He always has loved to cook like is momma. If he is home, he's the one that likes to do the cooking. (My poor kitchen...you know what they say makes a good cook...a sloppy one). Anyway, he injects so much into his turkeys, one could never begin to guess the calorie content. Meredith...even if your scale is not moving, your body is making adjustments. Way to go on the smaller sizes. Be patient, the scale will all of a sudden move. Plateaus are no fun but if you are sticking to the cals you should and exercising, you will see some action soon. Wish we had the option of just walking across the street to get take out. We are in a rural area 15 miles from anywhere and cannot even have a pizza delivered. (Maybe that's a good thing). Good to hear from you and so nice that your sis made it home.

Sounds yummy, Phil...will give it a try. Thing I like about dishes like this is that there's not trouble with the meat, especially if it is cooked slow. Lots of protien and you really feel like you are eating a hearty meal.
  21. I'm sorry...I missed this. I take 5000 once a day of the Biotin. I continue to take it and probably always will. I used to have soft nails and brittle hair. It's really helped. Thanks for the compliment. I feel 30 yrs younger!

OK...tried a new recipe today and thought I would share. It's actually pretty good. 2 lbs hamburger, browned and rinsed Put meat back in pan and add 2 cups water and 1 package onion soup mix, 2 chicken bullion and 2 cups chopped celery. Simmer for about 15 min. When the celery is tender, add 2 cups FF sourcream and gently toss in two cans of cut green beans. (I used fresh that I steamed). You can cut this recipe in half easily.
