Eating fast lesson learned.
OutsideMatchInside replied to bossportsgal's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I feel like this is a lesson best learned by experience. The first time you drink too fast, eat too fast, or overeat, you learn that pain and you don't repeat it. That is our tool working as intended to help us break bad habits. -
1 Week 1 day Post op & HUNGRY
OutsideMatchInside replied to rdy2Bsleeved's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Physically hungry or head hunger? Everyone want to chew something after not being able to chew for weeks. Make some jello, or chomp on ice. -
In ketosis, but not losing weight. Bad gallbladder a factor?
OutsideMatchInside replied to GSVguy's topic in Food and Nutrition
When is the last time you had lab work done? If it hasn't been recently that might really help as a starting point. What are your macros like daily for ketosis? What are your carbs at? -
I eat baked chicken wings all the time, I am over 1.5 years post-op. I also eat unbreaded fried chicken wings from Wingstop. Chicken wings are really hard to track. You have to weigh them before you eat them and then weigh the bones after to get an accurate protein and calorie count. It is pretty annoying so I only do it once a week. I didn't have them until 6 or 9 months out. They are a dense protein and hard to digest. My nurse in the hospital was 6 months post op from the sleeve and he told me that he had fried chicken with his family, he just didn't eat the skin. He was a great resource for me on what I could eat postop and stay on plan I started making my own low carb pizza around 9 months. There are lots of recipes. You can eat the toppings off pizza but I would caution you against making that a habit because later on down the road you might find that toppings are a slider. When you are cleared for food at 4 to 6 weeks you could probably have 1/2 a sausage patty with an egg for breakfast. What are your food stages as directed by your Dr?

Dealing with others issues

Couples counseling or dump him. -
I eat keto so the fat in chicken salad is great for me. It helps with my protein and fat macros. I don't really eat it anymore because it offers no restriction, but that is a different topic. Not all of us follow the same kind of post-op diets but I think that we can all agree that real food is better than artifical processed foods.

@erinb2094 You got this! Good luck!

@BigViffer I am just offering her suggestions based on the very limited information she provided. We have no idea what kind of bars she is eating. You are a man with a higher RMR and you are lifting. You could probably afford to have a FitCrunch bar every day, OP really can't afford those carbs or calories. I see very few people here ever post about eating bariatric appropriate protein bars. Even if she is, just looking at what she posted the majority of her calories each day are coming from fake protein substitutes. Protein bars are fake food. Some people do well with them and others don't. Since she is having issues the protein bars, toast and peanut butter stand out as things that are adding carbs and could be cut. I eat protein bars, high quality ones. I try to avoid them because they are just sliders, they offer no satisfaction. Also, I think a lot of women would benefit from higher protein goals. I have been over 90 grams a day since day 2 and average in the 120 to 130 range most days. Keeping my protein goals high has allowed me to retain muscle while losing and it keeps me full. High protein goals also leaves little room for other empty calories.

What can I expect the first 4-6 weeks?
OutsideMatchInside replied to Howard's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I would do it afterward. You have no idea how you are going to heal. I was lucky and healed well. When I was 4 weeks post op I had to do a long weekend drive of over 900 miles. I got through it, and I had the energy for it, but look back it was really hard and I was pushing it. At 4 weeks you will be able to eat, but not much, and probably not anything at a celebration. I would just enjoy the celebration with my family and then have surgery. There is no reason to add extra stress to you life if you don't have to. Dealing with family is stressful enough. -
You still didn't post your calories, protein, or carbs. Those number matter. Give up the toast. Give up peanut butter. It is calorie dense with not enough nutritional value to justify it. The protein bars and shakes are giving you too many carbs probably. Protein bars are a really fake food. They are made with so many chemicals, that alone might be your stall right there. I try to have no more than 2 a week and only in an emergency. Give up the protein bars and the shakes. Have dense protein for snacks. Steak, chicken, pork chops cut into strips. Do you weigh and measure all of your food? Everything even condiments? If you aren't weighing your food and tracking it, you are just guessing.

Nausea from Protein shakes

I never had issues with premier but I always tell people not to stock up anything. I like broth with unflavored protein powder. -
Over a month stall - need advice
OutsideMatchInside replied to avatarkorraa's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Those kind of calories will lower you metabolism and keep you on low calories for the rest of your life. I eat around 1500 calories at 1.5 years out and I am still losing. You are not eating enough calories to fuel the workout that you are doing. -
Headache is the first sign of dehydration. If you are not getting your fluids in you need to go to the Emergency room/Dr Office ASAP.

What do you eat exactly? Calories? Carbs? Protein?

Bananas are high in carbs. These are my favorite low carb pancake. http://www.ibreatheimhungry.com/2012/01/cream-cheese-pancakes.html

Increase your calories. You should be in the 1000-1200 range at 6 months. -

Weight gain after sleeve
OutsideMatchInside replied to Ba02's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
@Ba02 You could be suffering from GERD or you might have a hital hernia. You need to see a DR ASAP. -
I got the sleeve knowing if I wasn't successful that I could get the DS as a revision to lose the rest. I have been very happy with my results from the sleeve and the DS isn't needed for me. If I was going to revise to the DS from the sleeve I wait until after the 2 year mark. I lost another 50 plus pounds so far after the 1 year mark. I would also look at how you are eating. What are you daily protein and carbs?

Was your 2nd month slow weight loss?
OutsideMatchInside replied to janedoe92's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
You weigh 200 pounds though, you aren't going to lose 30-40 pounds the first month after surgery. Most of the people that do lose that much in the first month are men, or they had issues with getting fluids, protein in. I was 358 on day of surgery and I "only" lost 21 pounds my first month. And I didn't diet pre-op either, besides the surgery liquid diet and I "only" lost 7 pounds on it in 10 days. -
C'mon doc/nut....No nailpolish!
OutsideMatchInside replied to 10stackzz's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I took my gel polish off night before, and put it back on when I got home. I was at the hospital like 26 hours. @pvechiola I used to spend about 2K a year on gel manicures. So it does matter, especially if you put a lot of time and effort into your appearance, you don't want to break your nails in a 24 hour time period and ruin months of hard work. -
BCBS 6 mos diet requirement & comorbidity questions
OutsideMatchInside replied to SummerShadow's topic in Insurance & Financing
I used BCBSIL when I had surgery and they didn't require 6 months of anything if your BMI was high enough, and I think that was anything over 40. I went from first visit to surgery in 8 weeks. -
Hiatal hernia 4 years post op -help
OutsideMatchInside replied to sweetmomma2005's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
The reason we are asking is a hital hernia has nothing to do with needing a revision. Why can't they just repair the hernia? It just sounds like they are trying to get more money. The hernia is giving you GERD and making it hard to eat. Fixing it alone will solve your problems. You haven't posted anything about why you need a revision. It doesn't make logical sense. Also being 4 years post-op with your particular issue, you are going to be hard pressed to get a response from a Vet. Most of them don't post here anymore.
