    Taste buds have changed

It is always crazy to me when I read that taste buds have changed, mine are the same. Only more extremely, things I didn't like I hate. Things I like, I love, things I loved, I really really love. I taste food a lot more now and it is delicious. Everything was delicious early on after weeks of liquids.

    Average weight loss

Probably 5 pounds a month max. I'm shocked they are recommending RNY for someone with such a small amount of weight to lose.

    Keto diet

@Sherrie Scharbrough This book http://www.4yourtype.com/eat-right-for-your-type-book/ Helped me a lot. I don't eat the way I should for my blood type because the meats suggested are expensive and boring. The one thing I did take away from that book was my body does not react the same way to exercise as other people. It triggers stress in me and I don't lose weight. This book along with Dr. Matthew Weiner changed how I thought about exercise and I get amazing results with very low stress exercise like yoga and walking. There are so many components to weight loss and how our bodies work. Just like having WLS success is partially based on genetic disposition.

    Keto diet

Most people that long term Keto are calories aware, even if they aren't strict even with non restrictive stomach. Long term successful people fast also, which I do. A high fat diet makes it easy to fast (the original purpose of bulletproof coffee, to extend a fast). Fasting has its own benefits and I'm not even going to go too far into that First it is really important to know your body composition you can calculate your macros correctly. Most people that really Keto track (I notice anyone that is successful at any kind of way of eating or diet tracks). I use a Keto calculator and peg my protein to my lean mass 1g per 1 pound. This one is good https://ketogains.com/ketogains-calculator/ The math on that one is supposed to be better but I use this one because I like it better because of the loss projection chart. https://keto-calculator.ankerl.com/ As a sleever if you are meeting your protein goals, it is going to be almost impossible to get your calories too high just because of the low calorie count of protein, the density of protein and restriction. If I didn't use heavy cream in my coffee, I would never hit my fat goals. 120 grams of protein a day doesn't leave much room for anything else.

    Keto diet

If you actually ever did any research or read any studies about high fat diets, you would have never even posted the first 2 sentences, because there are numerous studies not to mention several cultures through out the world that have been eating this way for hundreds if not thousands of years. Which is why I suggest readying a book by scientists and not reading bro science on the internet. Most of the studies I could link are behind educational walls. I did years of research on this before deciding on it. It isn't just a fad diet or pseudo science which is why I tell people not to even bother if they aren't will to make a life long lifestyle change or it flat out won't work for you. You can't just Keto for a while stop pounds and go back to pizza. The same way you have to make life long changes for WLS to be effective long term. I know talking about science here is kind of a non starter since 99.9% of people that post here don't even understand the difference between weight and volume. Science is beyond most people, don't even get me on understanding stats. I know everyone doesn't have a STEM degree but damn.

    Keto diet

Nope. Although Atkins was close to Keto. The original Atkins diet by Dr Atkins, the diet has been really bastardized since his death. All those trash products they sell in the store are pretty against his teaching. Keto has a lot of science and studies to back it up. I feel like if people can't process or understand the science of running the body on fat they shouldn't even bother. I see so many people making bad choices on Facebook etc and they don't understand the science. If you understand the science it is so easy to make the right choices.

    Coffee

Coffee won't dehydrate you. Urban myth. I drink about 10 cups of coffee a day at this point. Early on you need to be cautious about the acid levels. So cold brew or find a low acid French roast.
  8. I would worry about your vitamins more than carbs. Coming off winter it is pretty easy for your vitamins D to be low. Your body has no metabolic needs for carbs. You do not need carbs for energy. Ask for a blood draw, specifically vitamin d level. I run on 0 to 25 carbs and have for almost 2 years. My energy levels are tremendous.

    African American vsgers!

Love wig grip! My hair thinned out for a long time. Now it's growing like fire. I have found I like wigs more than weave. Easier to be active with wigs you can just take them off, workout and put them back on

How do you practice not drinking with food

Practicing before hand is pretty pointless IMO. Post op you won't do it because drinking will be a chore, eating will be a chore. Basically your stomach is going to teach you.

    Sabotaging Myself

Find a therapist. You are self soothing with food. You will never stop until you get to the root causes of why. Food isn't the issue here emotions are.

    African American vsgers!

I think keeping track of your body fat percentage and lean mass is the best marker of progress. Which is why I like DEXA scans so much. I'm doing great. I have been struggling during Lent since I have up meat. Protein bars have made sick a few times. I am so excited for Easter! Back to all the meats. It has been a great learning experience and I have learned that the way I eat normally really works for me and I can never go Vegan or vegetarian like I had been considering. Too hard to eat right even with seafood included, no meat at all would be impossible. Oh well. Culturally it is interesting to see how people react to me being so small now. I'm heavy in weight at 188 ish but I wear size 8s and 10, a 9 in juniors. So that is pretty small for a Black woman my age. My RNY associate has commented she would never want to be this small it isn't her ideal, lol, but when she first had surgery all she talked about was onederland then she got a man at 250 pounds and decided that was enough weight lost. Now she is back around 300 and borderline diabetic again. A good lesson about losing as much as you can for health and not just losing enough to meet a physical ideal. I liked being curvier, but I enjoy being healthy. Just a few more pounds and I will have lost more than I weigh!

    Keto diet

Yeah I notice in a lot of the keto groups on facebook people go nuts on the fat. like I eat bacon but in moderation. Most of my daily fat just comes in the form of cream in my coffee, other than that I am pretty lean.

Calling all vets. Need help 4 years post op

Diet is more important than exercise. You can't out train a bad diet. What is easiest for me is eating fatty dense meats like pork chops. The fat and flavor keeps me satisfied and the density keeps me full. I'm 21 months, not 4 years, but I can already see how easy it is to regain. There are so many tasty slider foods out there, more than I thought were possible. All the real vets are gone, so good luck hearing from any of them.

    Does this seem right?

Do not pay attention to what other people say. A lot of people drop a ton the first month because they are not eating at all. Later on they stall out. A lot of those people that drop a lot at first never get to goal because they torch their metabolism in the very beginning. Hit your protein goals, keep your carbs low, get you calories up and don't pay attention to what other people are reporting.

Help! I'm not losing weight... Stall

If you are doing what your NUT said, but you are not getting the results you want, try something different. @JustMe40 You don't have to exercise to lose weight. You just need to intake fewer calories than your body burns. My RMR is 1900 a day, that is how many calories I would burn a day if I laid in bed and didn't move all day, that is just the base level my body needs to function. Most people don't have to eat a huge daily deficit to intake less than they burn. Don't think that having MS and limited mobility will hold you back. You just have to work a little harder at controlling your food. That is why eat less than 25G of carbs a day, net carbs, you can subtract the fiber, would really help someone like you. Good luck! BTW your weight loss so far is right on track. Good job.

Everyone is different. You are young so you will snap back better than most people. Loose skin isn't a reason to not have surgery.

    Keto diet

This book is a good place to start so you can understand the science. The Art and Science of Low Carbohydrate Living: An Expert Guide to Making the Life-Saving Benefits of Carbohydrate Restriction Sustainable and Enjoyable https://www.amazon.com/dp/B005CVV2AE/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_Bus7ybP5P45SW Just like WLS understanding the science behind it makes it easier to understand, follow and make the right choices. /r/keto on reddit is a great place to start. I am just going to warn you. Keto is a commitment just like WLS. It isn't a diet it is a lifestyle and a way of eating. If you stop eating keto and go back to carbs the weight will pile on. Keto is not some fad diet you can follow for a little while drop weight and go back to eating trash. If you can't commit to it for life, there is no reason to even start. Keto replaces carbs with fat to keep you satisfied and once you are keto adapted your body runs on fat.

    Keto diet

@tiffany44641 I have been a low carber, keto person off and on for about 16 years. I would lose weight but plateau and I didn't understand stalls so I would quit. I also had a portion control issue. People in the keto community feel like you can eat without portion control as long as it is high fat. Being sleeved helped me control my portions. In the beginning when I was healing I just followed a normal low carb diet. Around 6 months when I was healed, I switched to keto. Personally I feel like if I didn't switch to Keto I would not have lost this much weight. I would have topped out at about 100 pounds lost and bounced around like most WLS people. Just as importantly eating keto has allowed me to maintain my looks. I have lost 182 pounds and I look very young and healthy. I do not look sickly. My face looks amazing. Keto is great for women because the fat is great for your skin. If you look in keto groups the women that keto almost glow. I am a strong advocate for Keto. If you can portion control you can lose a lot of weight on keto. If you can't portion control wls is a great option to help you with that. The sleeve has helped me with portion control and made making the right food choices easy.
