Endoscopic gastric sleeve Doctor In Michigan?
OutsideMatchInside replied to Butterfly512's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Gastric Plication and the Endoscopic sleeve are basically the same thing, the only different is one is done by going through the throat instead of laparoscopic. I don't think 3 rows of titanium staples is really any better than sutures as far as foreign material. Just removing the stomach is "cleaner" than leaving it there folded over, for a few reasons. I don't think there is anything wrong with the surgery though, I would need to see more long term results before I chose it. @KittyV Grand Health Partners has nothing about Endoscopic Sleeves on their website. What has your experience been with an endoscopic sleeve? What was the insurance process like? -

Anyone become pescatarian after surgery?
OutsideMatchInside replied to facebro29's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
What would be the point in increasing the acid content of the meat? Tomatoes are high acid. It sounds like he has a stricture, and should contact his Doctor. -
Looking for Endoscopic Sleeve Gastroplasty (ESG) Buddy in AZ
OutsideMatchInside replied to Slimming Stephanie's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
The only Drs that perform it are in Minnesota, NYC and Boston to the best of my knowledge. It is still new surgery and not covered by most (if any) insurance in the US. -
Metabolism slowing and calories burned (2 years + post op)
OutsideMatchInside replied to Jim in Utah's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Have you had your metabolism tested? How do know it has slowed? Do you track all of your food? I can maintain on 2000 ish calories. -
Anyone become pescatarian after surgery?
OutsideMatchInside replied to facebro29's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
@facebro29 I tired it for lent and it was a complete failure for me. Too few options on what to eat when I was out. It was pure hell. I was hungry all the time. I mean it was a good experience for Lent. Since I wanted to suffer some, that was the point. I would never ever do that to myself again. I'm still suffering health wise from that experience. If you can't tolerate these foods anyway you basically have nothing to lose. However, it seems odd you are having this many issues with foods. What has your doctor said about it? -
Any actual long term slow losers out there?
OutsideMatchInside replied to bitingcat's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Are you still eating 800 calories a day? How long have you been eating that level of calories? Do you track all of your food? Do you weigh all of your food? How much protein are you consuming daily? -
I had controlling parents. I'm 40 and I haven't talked to either of them in years. The years I haven't talked to them have been the best years of my life. Just that you would consider removing her from your insurance tells me every thing I need to know about you. I feel sorry your daughter. I imagine you have made her feel terrible about her weight her entire life too. Why is everyone that posts in the friends and family section is a terrible human being. Lol every fricking time.

I need inspiration surgery 5/2-17 vsg
OutsideMatchInside replied to Mucheca's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Well you can't undo it, so there is no point crying over spilled milk. What is done is done. The food restrictions are for a very short time. 3 to 6 months. The lactose, elaborate on what make you think you are lactose intolerant now. Even if you are for the moment, you probably won't be long term. This is a short term situation. Antidepressants are unlikely to help you with situational depression that is not based on a chemical imbalance. You need to learn to make peace with your choice and move forward. Why did you choose to have surgery in the first place? Maybe remembering that choice will help. -
MGB or RNY?
OutsideMatchInside replied to Here_I_Go_Again's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
MGB is experimental and not done that often in the US (or at all). If you are going to get that, you might as well get the DS. You have to think long term. You want a surgery that is widely performed, so long term you have a wide variety of doctors to choose from for follow up care. Your doctor could retire one day or be hit by a car the day after your surgery. Pick something that long term the follow up care won't be an issue. This is something you live with for the rest of your life. -
Movie Theatre Snacks
OutsideMatchInside replied to Honeypenny's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Drink water. I usually buy a bottle of water. Even though they only sell that nasty tap water Dasani. Sometimes I drink coffee. If you call ahead they will brew a pot for you so you don't have to wait when you get there. You might as well get used to making good choices with what is available to you, and not sneaking food into the movie theater. Nicer movie theaters have Brussel sprouts and other things that are bariatric friendly. Post-op life is easy if you understand nutrition and your nutritional needs. You can find something to eat/drink almost everywhere if you understand the basics. -
Feeling defeated
OutsideMatchInside replied to LeahF's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Think about your staple line opening and stomach acid seeping into your chest cavity. The chance of death was the only thing that kept me sane. I went a month total without anything to chew on between pre-op and post-op diet, it will give anyone head hunger. This isn't a normal diet though, this is prescription plan to keep you safe and healthy so you can heal. -

Very fearful of being nauseated
OutsideMatchInside replied to Dabearo's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm always shocked when I read posts and people act like nausea is just part of having WLS. I was never nauseous. I don't think I ever vomited until like 6 months and that was my fault. You can't really read other peoples experiences and think yours will be like that, positive or negative. The majority of issues that people complain about on forums I have never experienced and the issues that I have, I never see anyone else complain about. -
Not losing weight but losing my mind
OutsideMatchInside replied to doxaholic's topic in Duodenal Switch Surgery Forum
I wish a long term DS person would show up here and answer @doxaholic DS people can and do need to eat a lot more than other WLS patients because of their malabsorption, and they need to, to counter that malabsorption. That is why people like having DS. You should up your calories and your protein. With the level of malabsoprtion you have, you shouldn't be eating less than 120G of protein a day. You also need a higher amount of fat. You don't really have to worry about carbs because of your malabsorption. Please do a google search, there are other forums with more active DS patients where you could get better and more accurate advice. The nutritional needs for DS patients are totally different than other WLS patients because of the extreme malabsorption levels you have. Please ask some long term DS patients. You haven't mentioned your vitamin regimen or your latest labs. Your labs have to be carefully monitored with DS -
Your Dr didn't give you a meal plan? I have a meal plan and shopping list for basically the entire first 6 months. We can't tell you how you should be eating, your Dr should had told you based on your needs and history.

Liver Shrinking Diet - 45 grams of carbs

Count net carbs, subtracting the fiber. You will find you have a lot more carbs to work with than you think. -

45 grams of carbs seems really generous. I was allowed 3 shakes a day. What is hard about it to you? -
Weight gain post 9 months after surgery
OutsideMatchInside replied to shrusara's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Weigh yourself every day. Track all of your food. If you do these things, you don't have to guess why you are gaining. 5 pounds could be water weight. Without any information and summer heat, I would say water weight before a real weight gain. Are you are goal and gaining from a maintenance weight or are you still trying to lose? -

Interesting. I read some horror stories about him, but I didn't pay a lot of attention but there are a couple people he completely botched.
