African American Sleevers
OutsideMatchInside replied to ATLGirl's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
@niseys4 Everyone obsesses over the hair loss but it is really such a small part of this. The weight loss opens so many doors and you feel so much better, the hair does not matter. -
Sleeve vs RNY
OutsideMatchInside replied to toby585's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Long story short, I know someone who had a surgery, not a WLS surgery, but their intestines were nicked in the surgery, and part of their intestine died. that part hard to be removed and then it was just a slow downward decent into a slow hellish death from there (took over a year of non stop complications). Also I watched a lot of Fat Dr UK and one of the Dr on there talked about how terrible it was to have to touch healthy intestines. So much can go wrong with your intestines and kill you, and not even usually fast kill you, just slow miserable kill you. Obviously most people that have RNY don't have serious intestinal issues. It was just something I was not willing to roll the dice on at all. They cut your intestines with RNY and reconnect them and that carries risks. Plus pouch stretching, you have to be more diligent long term with RNY. These were my reasons and obviously a lot of people don't have this opinion. I don't think there is anything wrong with RNY in general, it helps a lot of people, but for me, It wasn't really worth the extra risk to maybe lose an extra 20 pounds or so. And in the end I exceed the expected weight loss for RNY and for the Sleeve. The 2nd chart is 24 month expected loses, Which has a bounce back (weight increase) from month 18 So... Pick whatever surgery you want, it doesn't really matter, what matters is what you do with the surgery. -
Supplement hair vitamins
OutsideMatchInside replied to qbeefabuliz85's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You can take hair vitamins but hair loss post op is not vitamin related and vitamins aren't going to stop your hair from shedding if it is going to shed. All vitamins can do is help your hair grow back faster. -
Pass my goal weight
OutsideMatchInside replied to lupita19's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
One of my good friends is your height and about your weight now. I know that being double that weight had to be really hard. That is really an amazing accomplishment, you should be really proud. -
Does anyone know why my nose runs when my sleeve is near full? So weird!

NSV shout outs
OutsideMatchInside replied to BobBayCityMI's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I can wear dresses (if they are tight enough, structured right) without Bras now! Which is so awesome. My band size is also a 34 now, which is something I never ever thought I would see. Still an F/G cup When I was larger I had a larger car. Recently I purchased a small luxury sport coupe that I would have never fit in comfortably 2 years ago. I feel like an entirely new person. -
6 months in the hospital
OutsideMatchInside replied to Debedeb's topic in Gastric Plication Surgery Forum
*Yawn* Every few weeks/months someone comes with some horor story with no real back up. Just trolling. Oddly when you read people that post that really have bad complications, with the exception being that lady from the UK that is miserable, they are still happy with the results in the long run, even with complications. The laws in Florida however are perfect for quacks to set up shop there and butcher people with little recourse. I would never have any kind of medical procedure in Florida unless i was literally bleeding out from like a Jet-skiing accident or something. -
Packing for hospital??
OutsideMatchInside replied to Dizzykatja's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Gas X is useless. They give you socks with grip to wear. I still have mine, I love them. Heating pad is a no, just don't do it. I doubt the hospital will let you bring one but they would have something for you if you really need it. All you need are a lip balm, whatever you wash your face with, cell phone and charger. The hospital has everything you need. They are charging you a fortune, take advantage. -
The germs.. I've never been a fan. They skeeve me out. Just like all those people trapped on a boat for days. Planes are bad enough but at least those are just short time periods.

What to do with the excess skin

Thinking of joining WW ?
OutsideMatchInside replied to digi1024's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
The way I was dropping sizes I would have needed that 45 a month for clothes. BP was my accountability and support that first year. I did the challenges and stuff like that. Posting daily kept me on track. Reading what people did wrong and how they were not losing reminded me what not to do, daily. Also I would feel really uncomfortable at WW with people that haven't had surgery when my WLS is on easy mode and they are trying to lose weight with a normal stomach and hunger. I would feel like my success would be making someone else feel worse. -
Best scales

I have this one. http://a.co/78vmzYP Always accurate, even on my uneven floors. Cheap, and easy. I want a Withings but realistically it is a waste or money -

OutsideMatchInside replied to digi1024's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Honestly I would go to over eaters anon meetings. I wouldn't pay all that money for WW. Or you could just join an online group or diet bet. WW is exactly what Introversion said, they focus to profit from failure. I don't don't know why people don't get it, but people are still out here signing up for new MLM so... -
Sleeve vs RNY
OutsideMatchInside replied to toby585's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I have healthy intestines and I did not want them touched. You can live without a stomach in case of complications. You cannot live without intestines, not well and not for long. Long term RNY is not better than the sleeve, and as there are more long term sleevers it seems the results are shifting towards the sleeve. Ultimately as a young, active relatively healthy person. I did not want the long term maintenance issues that come with RNY or DS. I have another 40 or 50 years left and I wanted something low maintenance and simple. Which is why even though I considered WLS over the years I never had it because the Band and RNY just did not make sense to me. Reading WLS forums for about a decade before I had surgery. I knew that the surgery did noy determine weight loss. The patient does. Ultimately you have to have some will power and self control or you can eat around anything. Self control even if you do not have it before surgery, you can learn it easily post-op by following the post-op diet closely. -
Drinking hard liquor on the rocks is better than drinking mixers and basically straight sugar. I have always thought cruises were the devil and the induced gluttony that people post about them on here has lowered my opinion of them even more. A floating all you can eat buffet...

Hungry as a bear 4 years Post-Op
OutsideMatchInside replied to SusieQ_RN's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Depending on your stomach to tell you that you are full is a bad idea. Weighed portions are the best way. When you had the chicken, black beans and tomatoes, did you eat it all together alternating bites or did you eat all the chickeb first? Try eating your dense protein first and by itself. 4 to 6 ounces of dense protein should still fill you up, if you are eating it alone. Do you have any GERD issues? I have 16:8 fasted since before surgery. While it is helpful to cut out things like late night eating, you can still eat enough calories in 8 hours that you will not lose weight. Also to meet my protein goals and not get hungry, once I start eating at noon, I eat every 2 hours. I do not let myself get hungry, that creates an environment for over eating. When is the last time you had a blood panel? -
Well fathead is heavier than a tortilla or flatbread because it is just cheese, egg and almond meal. So you are basically making pizza on a brick of cheese. It is literally heavy and sits in the stomach like a brick. Flat bread crisps to the point of being like crackers so it breaks down very easy. No one really should be eating stuff like this before 6 months but just because of the calories etc, it should be saved for close to goal.
-
I eat it maybe once a quarter. It is too high in calories for the losing phase and very heavy in the stomach. If you are almost at goal or at goal with a good maintenance calorie level, something over 1400, it is great. Other than that, Flat Out Bread, light Italian is better for making pizza. Or just make low carb skillet pizza.

pity party for me
OutsideMatchInside replied to Sophie74656's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I wear a 3/4 sleeve rash guard because my arms have loose skin and shorts. I don't really swim, I do water sports so this doesn't stand out at all. I don't have this one, the one I have is more beachy but.. http://oldnavy.gap.com/browse/product.do?pid=505919022&CAWELAID=120299900000065306&CAGPSPN=pla&CAAGID=36024990456&CATCI=aud-297609326836:pla-71990260162&device=c&product_channel=online&Matchtype=&tid=onpl000017&kwid=1&ap=7&lsft=device:c,cvosrc:cse.google.online_Nonbrand,cvo_campaign:691125975,cvo_pid:36024990456,cvo_crid:155131028364,Matchtype:,tid:onpl000017,kwid:1,ap:7 You can cover up and look sporty without looking so covered up. -

Dr said I don't qualify for sleeve after band removal
OutsideMatchInside replied to JTHmom's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
See another Dr. I have a feeling though with the ulcers you might not be a good sleeve candidate and RNY would be better.
