    Weight fluctuation

It looks like you are in Missouri, as hot and as humid as it has been, everyone is fluctuating with water weight. What do they expect in 90+ degree heat with 70-80% humidity.
  2. These are the Vitamins you get with the form the doctors office gives you. You can check now if your insurance covers the nasal spray. Basically you are paying for the nasal spray with insurance and the company tosses in the other vitamins. They come with a nice bag and a booklet. There is an easy number to reorder and they are delivered to your door FedEx. Also supplement superstore is the same price if not lower than online. They have the cheapest price for syntax. I know there are a lot of places you can order online but I really wanted a place I could walk in and ask questions. I also wanted to know that if I ever run low and can't wait for a shipment, I can just walk in some place and buy what I need.
  3. Yes, it is a nasal spray. I haven't used it yet, you do it once a week so I decided I would do it on Saturday mornings. The melt away Vitamins are great. I went to the Supplement Superstore on Lindeburgh in Hazelwood? It is in the same strip mall as golds gym, schnucks and wing stop. They don't carry Syntrax though, only the Illinois stores do. So I purchased all my Syntrax at the Edwardsville store. You honestly don't really need much. As soon as you get there you take off all your clothes and put 2 gowns on, one going towards the back and one going towards the front like a robe. They give you socks to wear, which are super comfy, I think I am going to go put them on now, lol. They tell you not to bring anything valuable in the nutrition class. Bring a lip balm, your lips are going to be dry after surgery. You can't drink anything until after your swallow test. They do give you a bag of mouth swabs like this http://www.amazon.com/Sage-Toothette-Disposable-Flavored-Dentifrice/dp/B0015TK5IW/ref=pd_sim_194_5?ie=UTF8&refRID=10ZNCK4Q6810SN0CXJ1M and a small cup of Water you can dip those swabs in the water and wipe you mouth out. You will want to do it often. Once I was in my room all I used was my face wash, toner face moisturizer, lip balm and phone. Don't bring a lot. I wore the same clothes home that I wore there, since I only had them on for about an hour before I took them off for surgery. I brought an extra pair of panties. The rooms are all private, you have a couple chairs, a reclining chair and a bed. The TV has good cable, I watched HGTV all night. I was at the hospital about 28 hours. Dr Scott I think keeps his patients 2 days, most people stay 2 days. If you are motivated, walking around, and you pass your swallow test, you can go home as soon as you are tolerating liquids. I had about 2/3 of my cup of Jello and about 1/2 of my Protein shake and maybe 3 oz of water over like a 2 hours time period.

    What do I wear POST OP(Wks 1-6)

I wore jean shorts today, my incisions are all above where my pants hit. No pain and the little bit of pressure seemed to help with some gas. I had planned on wearing maxi dresses all summer, but I don't think I will have to make changes. The bra area is a little different. I purchased a front close bra to wear to and from the hospital. Today I wore my normal underwire bra, but I had to be very careful with the positioning to make sure it did not touch my top incision which is in the middle right under my bra line. The front close bra was really helpful for getting dressed in the hospital, it gave me uniboob but it is comfortable so you might want to invest in one.
  5. Does it happen with different temps? I can't drink anything cold, it has to be room temp or it hurts.

    Rant from a single woman!

Well dating sucks for everyone over 30. It doesn't matter your weight. When you are thin men are still going to be jerks. You just might have a larger pool of jerks to swim in.
  7. I think that each Dr does their own thing, even though they are in the same department. It also depends on the patient. I was on a 10 day pre-op diet, most people seem to have 5-3 but I am higher BMI. It was hell I won't lie, and I slipped up a little here and there, but I made sure to follow it to the letter on the last 3 days. Dr said my liver was great. The hospital staff are really nice, from the nurses and the techs to the residents and the Drs. They are very experienced and they act like it. The radiology staff that did my swallow test were very nice also. Admissions is slow, they try to claim that they aren't but if you have ever done any admissions at BJC it is slow in comparison, because everything at BJC is electronic and they still make you sign papers at Des Peres. So get there a little earlier for everything to accommodate the slow admission times. The admissions staff are all very nice and friendly though. The whole experience for me has been very streamlined. I went to my first meeting in late April. Saw the Dr in May, Approved in June, Sleeved in July. They focus on this and they have it down. I met with a nutritionist when I did my Psych eval and she was not that informative, the class you take right before surgery really goes over everything you need to know and you have a handbook that you can refer to. It outlines everything you should and shouldn't eat for 6 months. It also talks about Vitamins and OTC medicines. The book you get at this class is really your gastric sleeve bible. If you pay attention in class and read the book on your own, you will know everything you need to know. I am only 2 days post op. I had my surgery in the afternoon on the 15th, and I was discharged about 24 hours later. As soon as I left recovery and was assigned a room, I went to the bathroom, then walked a lap around the floor. I rested for a few hours then I walked 5 laps, then 10 laps, then 3 more laps over night. Walk, as soon as possible. Walking pretty much alleviates the pain, at least it did for me. I have 5 incisions and no drain. If I didn't have the bandages over the incisions I wouldn't know they were there. I don't feel them at all. When I touch them, there is no tenderness. I walked into walmart yesterday to fill my scripts, and today I got a pedicure and want to walmart again. I'm just kind of rambling now, if you have more specific questions I didn't answer let me know. I purchased all my Protein and Supplement Superstore. I walked in and told the guys what I needed and why and they showed me the right stuff to get. They are familiar with sleeve patients. They even sent me a thank you card/note in the mail that arrived today. Also if your insurance covers it, go with the b-12 nasal and vitamins (they have a sheet, when you get far enough in the process, this will make more sense). You get every Vitamin you need this way. The vitamins are shipped directly to your house and the vitamins melt in your mouth they are pretty tastey and they don't have an after taste. If you hold them in your mouth and sip Water, they melt faster. The cost going this way is 1/2 or less than what you would spend buying all of these vitamins each month. In my case I met my out of pocket in pre-op testing, so they cost me nothing.

    Should I chill out?

No I have never had any kind of surgery. I do have a high tolerance for pain.

  10. I went with Dr Minkin at Des Peres. I don't know about Dr Scott. I believe Dr Minkin is the head of the department. My experience has been awesome.

I am flat out hungry (rant)

You know how you are feeling best, but where are the pains? If they are lower they are in your intestines. Depending on how long you took pain medicine, your intestines could still be waking up. When i did my swallow test I could see my stomach and my small intestines on the screen, that really helped me know their location. When I get pains it is when my stomach is emptying into my intestines because they are still waking up. You are further out than me so that might not be the case. Did you see your Dr today or yesterday and ask them about the hunger pains?

How to prepare for surgery day?

I was just released from the hospital yesterday so.. Don't take a lot of stuff to the hospital you won't need it. I took my face wash and toner because I am really serious about my skin care. I also took lip balm. Those were the only things I used that I brought, besides insurance card and drivers license, cell phone, kindle. I never used my kindle, if I was awake I was either walking or using my breathing thing. They gave me minty swabs for my mouth. You don't need a robe, they will give you 2 gowns. Get your Vitamins ahead of time and all of your Protein. I am using the vitamins recommended by my doctor and they arrived the day before my surgery. I am using watery like Proteins until I see the doctor next week. Syntrax nectar, 1St Phorm, and an unflavored protein to add to broth. Also find broths that you like, you stock up on them. You will get tired of sweet. Everything I am drinking right now has the consistency of Water so it is easy to get down. I have no hunger so there is no reason to go with anything heavier. Having nice light proteins will make it a lot easier to get your protein in. I don't know if you are an active person now or not, but start walking and being active before surgery. When you get out of surgery and get to your room. Walk as soon as possible. It will hurt at first but you will feel better. It helps move the gas. Walk early walk often, you will feel better.

Today is day 2. I feel like I have done 1000 crunches, and my throat hurts but other than that I don't have any pain. The pain meds don't really seem to be helping with the muscle pain so I am going to stop taking them. I don't think I could have asked for a better outcome. I am having no issues getting my fluids in, I am at over 60 protein already and it is only mid day.

Deciding to keep my sleeve quiet....

I am keeping my surgery a secret because of my career, and a few other reasons. I did previously tell one person who told two people, even after I told them I didn't want anyone to know. This was all during pre-op time, so I told them I decided not to have the surgery. I don't see them often so it shouldn't be an issue. You can't tell people and expect to keep it a secret, so if you really want it to be a secret don't tell anyone.

Going and coming back with no passport?

You need your passport or you can't go. Did you pay extra for expedited? Do you live near an office where you can go in person?

Waiting on approval from BCBS of IL

My doctor submitted me to BCBS before I had all my clearances. I had not completed cardio. In fact my Dr office did not have all my information from Cardio until a week before surgery, even though they had the clearance from cardio a couple weeks before that. The clearances are for your doctor so they know the surgery is safe. The insurance requirements are different. I was able to have surgery in less than 2 months after seeing the Dr for the first time because the office had it together and got my paper work submitted quickly. Call the office and stay on them, or switch Drs. They work for you.

    July sleevers?

I really didn't have much gas pain. When I first woke up I did. Then I burped 3 times and that took care of it. My pain now is just soreness like someone punched me in the stomach.

I was sleeved yesterday afternoon. I am eating jello right now and they are preparing my discharge. The night nurse said I was the best bariatric patient he has had. Not complaining about pain and walking constantly. Walking feels so good. I am glad to be off morphine, it was making me sick. I swallowed my first pain pill today and it was easy. I was really nervous about that. I can't drink cold water it has to be room temp but I drink doom temp water normally anyway. I feel great. I'm so excited.
