My husband is away and my eating is so much better!
OutsideMatchInside replied to Bndtoslv's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I have that issue also. I live away from everyone and alone, so that makes it easy to make the right choices. I really feel for people with families. I don't think I would have the will power. -
Itching all over!

This is a good example of why people should see their doctor instead or in addition to asking on forums. Glad you got it taken care of. -
July 14 (or close )Sleeve Date Friends
OutsideMatchInside replied to AvalonNeeCee's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Same. I weigh once a week. I am 6 weeks today. I can have salad! -
I had them on mushy stage but I should have waited. Crab is tougher than fish. Also at that time I could only eat 1/2 a crab cake. I can eat a whole one now. Around 3-4 weeks you should be good.

This is a recipe I have created, modified from several recipes finding what works best. You have to use real crab, you cannot use fake. It will not be as low carb if you use fake, plus well its fake. I buy my crab at Sam's Club. They sell a 1lb pasteurized lump crab, for $19.99. If you live some place you can get fresh crab, even better. I was making these by the pound but I found the 1/2 pound at a time batches much easier to manage. This recipe makes nice moist crab cakes. I use Flavor God seasonings because they are high quality and low in sodium with no sugar. 8 oz of Real Pasturized Lump Blue Crab 1 egg 1 TBSP Coconut Flour 2 TBSP Almond Flour/meal 2 TBSP Lemon Garlic Flavor God If you don't have Flavor God, then use 1 TBSP Old Bay TBSP REAL Mayo (Hellman's or other high quality) 1 tsp Dijon Mustard Ghee or Coconut Oil Spray for pan Wisk the egg, mayo, and mustard together, add the spices. Add the crab, mix it carefully with a spoon so you don't break the crab up too much. Or you can choose to break the crab up if you want it to be easier to chew to a paste. I choose to keep the crab lump intact for a more authentic feel. Sprinkle the coconut flour over this, then sprinkle the almond meal. Mix lightly. Use a cookie sheet or something else flat, a large plate can work, and place wax paper on it. Using a 1/ cup measuring spoon, place the measuring cup on a digital scale, taking into account the weight of the measuring cup, set scale to zero. Aim for about 3oz per crab cake. You should get 3 at almost exactly 3oz, and one at about 2.8. After weighing, using the measuring cup to keep the round shape, place on the wax paper. If you are going to bake in oven, keep them stacked high, if you want to pan fry them, flatten a little. Chill in fridge 1 hour before pan frying, or place in freezer for 10-15 minutes. This helps it firm up so it doesn't break apart in the pan. Or you can just bake in the oven. Modifications You can skip the coconut flour and the almond meal if you want basically no carbs. You will have to bake these in the oven. You can bake in oven on parchment paper at 375 for 10-15 minutes. These work out to about 15g Protein and about 1.5 Net Carbs each.

Bariatric food products

Use real cocoa recipes and sub stevia for the sugar. Make with fairlife milk. Real food is more satisfying and better for you. -
Curse you, Diet Coke!
OutsideMatchInside replied to kmd0235's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Diet coke is basically poison. If you research it, you will not want to drink it anymore. If you have drink soda, get a stevia sweetened high quality soda. Long term soda is going to hurt your efforts more than help them. -
I track on fitbit.com, but i am going to switch to loseit premium soon. I dont like how myfitness pal looks.

The best low carb crab cakes are at Bonefish grill. They are basically all carb. The put just a few bread crumbs on top which you can scrape off.

Belly noises
OutsideMatchInside replied to cole225's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
In the mornings when my stomach and small intestines are empty, I get all kinds of noises. Drinking Water gets it going and it continues for a while. It is just your digestion working. -
I am not sure which board you looked at, but /r/deadbedroom is understanding, and they have some sub forums. Your situation is a little different since its not just a sexual issue, but a sexual orientation issue. Even if you don't post you can read, there are lots of people that live in marriages without sex and them seem okay.

Itching all over!
OutsideMatchInside replied to JasTacker1977's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Mine was dry skin. I was itching all over. I was putting lotion on 3x a day. Once I was able to get all my water in for a couple weeks, it stopped. -
@@Smye I don't know if you use Reddit, but that would probably be a better place to talk about this than here. Also everyone deserves to be loved, and desired. I'm not going to say anything else, but keep that in mind when you are making your life choices, you deserve someone that loves and desires you, everyone does.

Clams, oyster and mussels you have to wait on, probably post 6-8 weeks. You can have fish, shrimp, lobster. You can have fish during soft foods. Just be careful how it is prepared so you do not have a lot of extra carbs.

That last line that Protein drinks are high calorie liquids is insane. No protein they are starving her to death. Is this a bariatric center of excellence? -

Pasta at soft foods?
OutsideMatchInside replied to avRose's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I wouldn't even bother with it. My plan says I can have oatmeal, but oatmeal is carbs. If I am going to have carbs I would rather they be more beneficial than oatmeal. If you know Pasta is a trigger for you, just don't. If you feel you have to have pasta, get one of these http://www.barilla.com/proteinplus or http://dreamfieldsfoods.com/ -
Binging before surgery
OutsideMatchInside replied to Melbournegirl's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I did not have to lose weight for surgery. I knew I was going to have a long liquid diet. I had all the food funerals I wanted. I am really glad that I did, because now when I have a craving, I can say to myself, " you had plenty of that", and remember when I did. It has made things a lot easier post-op. Especially when the time since I had anything to chew on seemed further away I don't know how people for 6 months of dieting, then a liquid diet, then post-op. One thing that I know now that I was sure about before surgery is that I can eat, fairly normally (for me I was already a lowcarb/keto person, I just fell off the wagon a lot), just in small portions. I do not feel deprived at all. Those food funerals were not really needed but I am still really glad I had them, because they helped me get through some dark days. -
Stock has more seasoning and other additives, broth has less. You can make your own if you want, that is probably better for you. I still use broth over a month out and will probably continue for for a long time, at least through winter. I don't like Soup and it makes a great lunch or afternoon snack. I add unflavored Protein powder to it. Lamb broth is my favorite.

Sleeve vs. Bypass
OutsideMatchInside replied to brandeett's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
There is no difference. You can lose weight on the sleeve without working out. It just isn't recommended and usually people having bypass are much heavier. I am not sure what kind of answer you are looking for here. The malabsorption of the bypass will help you lose weight faster early on, but since you still have your stomach in your body, you are are going to have more hunger issues. -
Mainly it is because I am lazy and I don't want to have to do any clean up. Since I make it fresh each time, this prevents me from having to wash the cookie sheet several times a day. It also keeps it very moist, with no sticking issues. I have never baked fish in straight metal. My grandmother always did it in a glass dish. I guess it is okay, but I have never tried it. This method you can get away with no oil at all if you want and always have moist fish.

Can I do some house cleaning?
OutsideMatchInside replied to ylluz's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You can dust etc. I understand being bored. I was bored out of my mind, but I let that boredom get to me and I ended up overdoing it. So be careful and don't exhaust yourself. You are running on air at this point. -
Eating before its time ..
OutsideMatchInside replied to lachellove's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was on full liquids as soon as I could pass my swallow test. In the hospital less than 24 hours after surgery, my "food" tray had a Protein shake, Jello, and broth. You can't heal without protein, it is a building block of the body. After any surgery or injury protein is essential. Reading these boards and others I really hate how unregulated WLS surgery is and how so many doctors have such different care instructions. -
Sleeve vs. Bypass
OutsideMatchInside replied to brandeett's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Lots of sleevers lose weight and do not exercise. Weight loss is 80% diet and 20% exercise. You don't have to exercise but.. Most people are following their doctors plans though, and all doctors tell you to exercise. My doctor did tell me they try to do gastric bypass only on older less active people, and the sleeve is a better option for younger people that can be physically active. If you are losing weight for health purposes, you should be active and work out. I have an associate that had the bypass, they are young, and they worked out heavily in the beginning. Easily dropping weight, getting up to running 5 miles a day. Later, almost 2 years down the line when this person was able to eat more and ravenously hungry, the fact they could and did workout daily prevented them from regaining. Working out is your insurance plan against regaining and also to maintain/improve your health. The sleeve and bypass, are not going to be as magical after the first year, you have to build habits that will help you maintain your weight loss.
