Changing mind during process?
OutsideMatchInside replied to Leesa926's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I purposely made my process as fast as possible so I couldn't chicken out. Sure I can lose weight and tone up without surgery. I have done it plenty of times, but I know it won't last. You are only this young once. The younger you are, the easier it is lose. Delaying when you are going to probably end up having surgery later on, only harms you. -
Men hitting on you when you are fat

Men hit on slim women just for sex all the time. What a man wants from you is what a man wants from you, slim or fat. -

Trader Joe's- surviving the gauntlet
OutsideMatchInside replied to psylocke72's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I went to TJ and Sam's last week. At TJ's they had brownies with cherrys in it. I hate cherrys so that was easy to pass up. I will miss the wine samples but there is always mass for a touch of wine. At Sam's. I had the inside of a sushi sample. Then purchased some sushi. I take the inside out and put it in turkey slices and roll it up. They had meatball samples and I had 1/2 a meatball and no sauce. It is pretty easy to pass up a lot of things. I think about how long it takes on the elliptical to burn the calories off, so that makes passing things up easily. I live alone so there are no bad foods in my house, even the "cheat" type foods are clean. We are surrounded by temptation all the time, just watching TV for example. You have to find a tool that helps you cope. Like I said for me, I think about how long it takes me to burn that many calories. Trader Joe's has so many awesome healthy options though, you shouldn't feel a lot of temptation. When they get Cookies and other stuff (I think their cookies and baked goods suck), you can get the sugar free chocolate coated almonds. They have sugar alcohol, so should really limit how many you have or you are going to pay for it. I was eating them long before surgery, although I hadn't had any since surgery. The one thing I did with them, was as soon as I got home, I measured out the portions into snack baggies so I always had the right portion amount. Post-op, I would probably have 1/2 a portion or less. They have riced cauliflower frozen that you can use for making all kinds of low carb dishes. Almond meal, almond milk, cheap ghee. Good luck -
I like to lick things

Licking, chewing and spiting, all are the beginning of eating disorders. Don't start those habits. -

That is a nicer response. I am grumpy in ketosis so I will just go for the jugular. -
Doctor Passing Me off to Assistant
OutsideMatchInside replied to OutsideMatchInside's topic in Rants & Raves
I don't have any sleeve issues or sleeve specific questions. I am d ping great and I have a clear plan on what to eat. My primary can track my blood work. If I have any sleeve issues or questions. I will either suck it up and go back or I will choose another doctor that is closer. They don't seem interested in resolving the billing issues though and I won't go back until they do. I have spent enough money out of pocket this year without a doctor office hustling me out of co-pays they are not entitled to -
Very sensitive to sun and heat

Just get your fluid intake up. Once you can take in more water, you will feel normal. -

OutsideMatchInside replied to magicalwoman's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You bought as much stuff as I did and I have not used all of it. I stocked up because I live alone and I thought I would be housebound for weeks or something. Just don't buy anything else. You won't use it all and you will get tired of the stuff you have. -
2 month post op diet
OutsideMatchInside replied to on the fence 2's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It depends on your plan. I am 6 weeks and I can eat enough things that I can look almost normal eating, just small appetite. I can eat eggs at Breakfast. I could eat oatmeal or something if I wanted, but I don't lunch I can have salads at 6 weeks, so I could have a salad with a Protein and just eat the protein first. dinner, fish or seafood. As long as you have a smooth recovery you will do fine on vacation. Just take some individual protein packets, and shaker. Make sure you drink Water all day. -
Help: 2 weeks from surgery, still don't know my cost
OutsideMatchInside replied to Thucydides's topic in Insurance & Financing
I think to some extent they don't know what it will cost. My surgery was paid for 100% by insurance but I looked at the bill. Each item was listed as the billed amount and then the amount insurance paid. So depending on what they use on you exactly in the hospital the costs are going to vary. I don't have any good advice but I personally would not agree to surgery unless someone could tell me the cost and hold themselves to that amount give or take 1000. If you have to pay a 5000 deductible, why not just go to Mexico? Or Blossom Bariatrics in Vegas? -
Doctor Passing Me off to Assistant
OutsideMatchInside replied to OutsideMatchInside's topic in Rants & Raves
OP I will address the copay. You likely should not be paying any copay for your 6 week visit. You should be in your post-op day period. Any care that is within the post-op period is considered part of the fee for the surgery. The surgeon should not be charging you a co-pay and should not be billing insurance, nor should the insurance pay for visits during the post-op period. Any major surgery should have a post-op period. It will vary depending on the surgery. The insurance companies use fairly standard guidelines. I think for the sleeve it is 90 days. (If you have a visit with the same surgeon for an issue not related to the surgeon a copay would apply.) The surgery fee is a global fee. And this is the issue right here. They charged a co-pay for my one week follow up visit. I thought it was odd, and I questioned it and told them this was my one week post-op visit and they said, yest I still had to pay a co-pay. At the time I just wrote the check because I knew I met my out of pocket for the year and blue cross will refund it. All of my claims process in about 3 days from service. I get an email, I can view them online. Within 10 days I have a check refunding me for my out of pocket. That first post-op visit from over a month ago still has not billed. When I asked about it, I got the run around. Their billing number has a menu that is just a loop. I want them to bill Blue Cross so I can get my money back. This already left a bad taste in my mouth. I spent 28 hours in the hospital, my one week post-op should not have had a co-pay in my opinion. Again, I brushed it off, because I knew it would be refunded. Then they wanted to change my appointment, then not only is there a change, but there is also a different provider completely unknown to me. They are ripping me off and no one will give me a straight answer. $50 is not a large sum of money in the big scheme of things but it makes me feel like I can't trust them, they are either crooked or incompetent. Either one makes me not want to do business with them again. If I can't trust someone with $50 I certainly can't trust them with my health. -
Final Delivery - Unjury Chicken Soup
OutsideMatchInside replied to magicalwoman's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I made it once with chicken broth. It tastes delicious but the sodium count is too high for my taste. -
2oz is about right, next week you might be up to 3oz, etc. I am 6 weeks and today was my first day of eating 6 oz of soft baked fish at one sitting. You are still healing, don't push it. If you are full at 2oz, stop at 2oz. Just make sure you meet your Protein requirements
-
Less than 8 weeks. I work for myself, so I could take all the pre-op appointments at any time they were offered so I completed all my pre-surgery testing in about 6 weeks. I have no idea how people with straight jobs get it done. I was submitted to insurance within a month of the first visit and it would have been fast but summer vacation and Memorial day slowed it down. I think I could have done the whole thing in 6 weeks if not for the holiday delays.

Coulda, Woulda, Shoulda

If I knew post-op life was going to be like this, I would have self paid, years ago. -
Do you work and earn your own money? If so, why can't you just hire one with your own money? Marriage is puzzling.

African American vsgers!
OutsideMatchInside replied to theshrinkingdutchess's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Braiding isn't going to stop the shedding. If your hair is shedding the braids will just hold the shed hair, and when you take the braids out you will still have the shedding and the matting will be worse. Adding the extra weight and tension of braids when you hair is fragile is a recipe for disaster, the braids will just break off at the root. -
These are great. And if you have walden farms calorie free syrup, then area amazing. Bananas have a lot of carbs so I would avoid them.

How long till you can lay on your tummy?
OutsideMatchInside replied to FocusOnMeNow's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I did it on day 4 by accident and it felt amazing. It really helps with the gas and the pressure on your stomach is just nice. I didn't really turn the cover on my recovery until I could sleep on my stomach, because it was the first night i had 8 hours of solid sleep. -
Going back to just protein shakes?
OutsideMatchInside replied to lauraellen80's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Why not replace 2 meals with Protein shakes? One in the morning and one at night. And yes, getting the right nutritional information is like pulling teeth. I keep thinking there is some kind of malpractice or legal issue that holds them back, because it just doesn't add up. -
Post sleeve hospital experience from a nursing perspective
OutsideMatchInside replied to atcant's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
In my classes people brought kids (do teenagers not babysit anymore? I am puzzled why I see children in adult settings all the time). Some were texting. Some were talking to other people. I do think some of it is educational levels and intelligence. The average adult american only reads at 9th grade level. When people hear walking, they think they don't have to walk until after they have lost some weight or whatever. I walked so much my night in the hospital my nurse told me to go to sleep i did a lot of research though and didn't just depend on the information provided by my program. One thing I notice with a lot of programs is they provide information that is middle of the line so they don't scare people off, but when talk to the NUT and Dr one on one they tell you to avoid things they have on the list. My nurse was recently sleeved and helped me so much in the few hours I was in his care, I will be forever in his debt. -
I had a cleaning lady. In the beginning they take a little time to get your house to the level of clean where they can just maintain it (I am not calling your house dirty). So the first few times it is either longer or slower, then it picks up. $45 for 2 1/4 hours of work is ridiculous cheap. $45 an hour is more like it. It seems like she is just trying to get your place to where she can maintain it easily. I would give her more time.
