Day 4 Post-Op - restriction is eased - is this unusual?
OutsideMatchInside replied to shriner37's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That wasn't restriction, that was swelling and trauma. You are healing, so you are going to continue to feel better and be able to drink more. Once each sip isn't a dicey experience, you won't feel any restriction. As soon as you have a bit of puree or soft food, you will instantly feel that restriction on the first bite. -
What kind of BBQ sauce do you do since surgery?
OutsideMatchInside replied to Savannah Lee's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If you made your own cole slaw, it would be fine, but all the commercial stuff and mixes have sugar in them. I haven't tried this one but it looks decent. I would add a little stevia for sweetness. http://www.atkins.com/recipes/creamy-coleslaw-dressing/1406 Edited to add Walden Farms has a Cole Slaw dressing. I saw it tonight at the grocery store. -

OutsideMatchInside replied to Savannah Lee's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've had tune salad. I have not had chicken salad yet because I don't feel like doing the work to try and make so little, and I can't be sure the deli version doesn't have carbs. I don't like potato salad really, it was bi-yearly thing at best for me before surgery. I don't think it will ever be an option after surgery, there are no benefits. -
The flavor god seasoning can seem expensive, but it is super high quality and flavorful, the containers are also very large. The lemon garlic is great, and the garlic is great also. The everything is okay but I don't like the everything spicy.

Baked Rutabaga Fries PreHeat Oven to 425 1/4 Rutabaga 1 teaspoons olive oil 1 Tbl Flavor God Garlic Lovers OR Garlic powder to taste Onion Powder to taste Sea Salt to taste This recipe is modified from http://allrecipes.com/recipe/230404/rutabaga-oven-fries/ Cut the rutabaga into quarters. If you have a french fry cutter, this is much easier, you can just cut it in there. If not then cut into even fry size pieces. Put the rutabaga in a bowl, add olive oil, and seasonings. Toss until evenly coated. Place on aluminum foil on baking tray, and put in oven. Bake 25 minutes, but keep an eye on them, depending on the seasoning they can get a little dark. The rutabaga I purchased was about a little under a pound. Depending on the size of the rutabaga the carbs are going to vary. I weighed my sections on my scale, My 1/4 was 3.5 oz or 99 grams. Which works out to about 8 carbs, 2 of which are Fiber for about 6 net carbs, and around 1 gram of Protein. I am going to try these with just coconut oil spray later on in the week and see if they brown as well. I have seen these recipes online for a while but never tried them. They are delicious. They have a slight sweet taste, but other than that, they are so close to fries, you will be surprised.

Food funerals
OutsideMatchInside replied to linzlou2000's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
People say food funerals mean you aren't ready. I disagree, food funerals are the only thing that got me through almost a whole month without chewing. I could look back remember what I had and remember why I never need to eat like that again. -
Protein cookie?
OutsideMatchInside replied to gabbisha's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You can make better low carb cookie at home. And then you know exactly what is in it. -
Child's portion card?
OutsideMatchInside replied to MrsKarenC2008's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I thought they were more for when you go to a buffet. You can get a discount rate at a buffet if you have one of those cards. I would still pass because I mostly eat seafood, I will still get my moneys worth. -

What are you allowed at 3 weeks according to your program? At 3 weeks your options are pretty limited.

2nd leak developed 1 year post-op

It sounds complicated. Maybe get a 2nd opinion from another bariatric surgeon. -
HAD TO SHARE! protein milkshake is the best for those who just can't on the shakes
OutsideMatchInside replied to readyforthislifechange's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
@@slvarltx Thanks for you post. Someone with zero information about their surgery or program, posts about having milk shakes and says their NUT agrees it is okay. And everyone is supposed to pat them on the back. If your Protein shakes suck, get a different brand. So many people post here about how their Protein Shakes are terrible but they are using the cheapest stuff they can find. I have Quest Protein powder in Peanut Butter and it tastes just like peanut butter Cookies. I have Syntrax nectars that are delicious. There is lemonade, ice tea, and lots of other fruit flavors. They are thin and easy to drink. And around 100 calories. You can add unflavored protein powder to broth. There are so many options to get your protein in that do not involve ice cream. If your NUT told you ice cream is okay, you need a new nutritionist. An experienced bariatric NUT. Anyone can be nutritionist. It does not require any special training or certification. It is not a regulated position. So they all vary in how knowledgeable they are. Unless they are a Registered Dietitian, they are more than likely a quack. -

HAD TO SHARE! protein milkshake is the best for those who just can't on the shakes
OutsideMatchInside replied to readyforthislifechange's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
If you add ice to a Protein shake and blend it well it will be very close to a milkshake. We are supposed to be helping each other do the right thing, not say yeah, drink a liquid double cheese burger, it won't hurt. -
HAD TO SHARE! protein milkshake is the best for those who just can't on the shakes
OutsideMatchInside replied to readyforthislifechange's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
While some of the comments can come across as rude... It is ridiculous to recommend a weight loss shake with ice cream. A better solution would be just to add ice cubes. Period, just some ice cubes. And maybe use almond milk instead of fairlife milk because it is creamier and fewer calories. There are a lot of people, hell basically all of us, struggling with food issues. Suggesting that an ice cream milk shake with Protein powder is okay for weight loss come across as almost a troll post. It is just self sabotage. You have to start thinking differently about food to be successful. Not substituting bad options to make good options more palatable. -
I feel very guilty and upset
OutsideMatchInside replied to Helen233's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You get a pass on the cake. In the future though, just throw it away after you have some, so you don't continue to be tempted to snack on it. -
Did you pick or did you follow Dr.'s recommendation.. How did you decide?
OutsideMatchInside replied to gobeit's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I picked. I also picked a Dr that didn't do RNY because I knew I didn't want it. If that was the only option then I would rather just die fat. I am not knocking RNY for anyone else, but RNY is just not an option for me. -
Tips on sipping?
OutsideMatchInside replied to jennolsen's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Drink standing up. It really helps. Just a few laps around the couch or walking through a few rooms helps. Its hard to understand especially if you otherwise feel good but your stomach has gone through a major trauma. It is swollen and tight. Standing and walking really helps. Now that I am 9 weeks out, I can really tell the difference from then to now. -
Switching surgeons after today's visit... Very discouraged
OutsideMatchInside replied to luvhermitcrabs's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
If you aren't comfortable, switch. Looking back I saw some warning signs early on I ignored. Now, I'm not happy with my choice but the deal is done. And yes, Doctors can pack in a lot of sleeve surgeries a day, so they are favoring it. -
Salmon is too heavy for me. And if it gets dry, you will regret life. White flaky fish is much easier.

Should I tell my pcp about my surgery ?
OutsideMatchInside replied to quevedo05's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Someone is going to have to order your blood work. You will need bloodwork to make sure you are meeting your nutritional needs. -
I would be really leery of any Dr office encouraging me to gain weight so they can make money. Think about that. They don't really care about your health. If you have already met your out of pocket and you deductible, then maybe push for this year. I don't know with it being September it is unlikely you will make it to surgery before the end of the year anyway. 6 months will take you to March/April. At least you can have cheat days on Thanksgiving and Christmas,

2 days post-op, need advice about "air bubble" pain with sipping
OutsideMatchInside replied to Hugs :)'s topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Try a different temperature. I couldn't drink anything colder than room temp for 2 weeks. -
I am so so so angry
OutsideMatchInside replied to Helen233's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
3.5 weeks you should probably be eating 2-4 oz max comfortably. -
Child's portion card?
OutsideMatchInside replied to MrsKarenC2008's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
They issued us those cards at our pre-op meeting. I seriously doubt I will ever use it.
