Type 2 diabetes and the sleeve
OutsideMatchInside replied to StartingOver1118's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I chose the sleeve over the bypass knowing that the bypass had better results for diabetics. If the bypass was my only option, I just wouldn't have surgery. Touching my intestines is not an option. Prior to surgery I was already controlling my diabetes with diet mainly. Keto will keep your sugars in the normal to low range. So knowing that I could do it with just food prior to surgery, I decided the sleeve would make it easier for me too continue to do so. It is a personal choice you have to make with your doctors. -
Stomach Sleepers
OutsideMatchInside replied to tcrehm's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The 4th night. I rolled over by accident, it didn't hurt, so I stayed that way. It felt so good. It helped with the gas and the pressure. And I was finally able to get a full nights sleep which helped me feel much better the next day. -
Time to stop losing?
OutsideMatchInside replied to autumn23242's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
We are the same height. I know that for me 170 still puts me on the low end of plus sized. 14/16. If I got to 170 I would be pretty happy, but I think I would shoot for 150ish, so I would have a cushion as I age. I don't understand her logic and as other people have said, make her explain it to you and show you the research. If she can't to your satisfaction, find someone else. -

7 weeks post op and still doing 2 shakes per day
OutsideMatchInside replied to shellyd67's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It just depends on what you eat. I don't do Breakfast foods because none of it has enough Protein. I can't eat enough eggs hit a meal protein goal. My goal is to have about 20g of protein per meal. I can eat 4 fish fillets in a day an accomplish this, hitting around 80g of protein. If I had chicken or turkey I could never make it. I can't eat enough of those. Or I have shrimp or crab. I am sticking to seafood for now because it easier to meet my goals naturally. Lots of people have shakes though. I have them on occasion if it is near the end of the day and I forgot to eat. -
I have no restriction 2 1/2 weeks out, can eat normal portions. WHY?!
OutsideMatchInside replied to Nomorethickchick's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You don't have nerves there to feel hunger at 2.5 weeks which is why you are supposed to eat the amounts they recommend. You need to go see your Dr and talk about this. How much you can eat varies a lot on the Water content of what you are eating and the density. I can have 6 oz of fish or 2oz of turkey. The thing is at your stage, I measured my food and ONLY had what I was told to have. You are supposed to be letting your stomach rest and heal. Even if you are hungry. Have you tried taking pepcid or something? Acid and hunger feel the same at this stage. And you aren't supposed to eat to be full, you are supposed to eat to be satisfied. -
Just make sure you don't have an acid issue.

Just because you can eat 5oz doesn't mean you should try. Weight, measure, and eat within your program guidelines. How long does it take you to eat 5oz? -
Sick of Water? Water Enhancers Rock!
OutsideMatchInside replied to ItsTheNewMe's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
My local health food store carries these http://sweetleaf.com/stevia-water-enhancer/ The raspberry lemonade is amazing, the peach mango is too sweet. They were $4.99 at my local store, which doesn't have the best prices. They are sweetened with stevia. I avoided these kind of Water enhancers but I found since surgery, I really only want to drink Fiji or Smart water plain, and tap water is a struggle. This enhancer is cheaper and better for the environment than drinking Fiji water all day. -
I was an emotional eater. I would eat when I was happy and eat when I was sad. I'm not one to deprive myself, so I always felt like I deserved a "treat". There are a few ways I worked myself out of it. I had to rethink what a treat is. A lipstick is $16-32, instead of getting a meal, I could get a lipstick or save that money for something bigger, a better treat. That is one thing. Gotta keep that Sephora VIB Rouge status. @@CowgirlJane Is right about your house and the grocery store. There is nothing bad here. Even if I ate any of the sweet things here, or made something with the stuff in my house, it is all keto and low carb friendly. There is no real sugar here, no flour, etc. There is almond meal, coconut flour, swerve, etc. The bad things are Quest bars, and atkins indulge, not the best choices but they won't knock me out of ketosis, and they aren't banned. There are just better choices. Cook for yourself. Cook everything. Cook your treats. I like cooking and baking, but all the prep work and time that foes into making things for one person, then just having a tiny amount, meh. Maybe I am just lazy, but even a mug cake can seem like too much work sometimes. When I think about all the steps, the pause that I take to do that lets me think about what I am going to do. Log everything you eat, even the bad, especially the bad stuff. So you can see it in print. When you see the macros on your emotional eating, it will probably turn you off, and make it less enticing. If you work out and know that even in an hour you can't work off what you ate in 5 minutes, you think differently. Everything I said before comes back to being mindful about what you are eating and why. Pause before eating anything. Think about how it benefits or harms you. Lastly surgery really helps. The pre-op diet, where you basically starve for days (some people have better plans than others) and that final day, where you have nothing basically but Water and broth, trains you. It is basically like going through detox for addicts. Then the week you are on Clear liquids and then the next week on full liquids helps. Also after surgery, at first (not forever), eating is a chore. It hurts, its hard, it can be frightening (if you eat too much or too fast). Your attitude towards food will change. The key is to try and keep this attitude long term. You have to mentally focus on your weight loss goals. I think about everything I went through to get to this point, if I am contemplating a bad choice, and that makes me stop. Also for me, I have a complete disconnect between my brain and stomach since surgery. I used to think about something I wanted, like a double cheese burger, and my body would react and my stomach juices would start flowing and I would be very hungry just thinking about something I wanted. Now I can think about anything I want, all of my favorites, and nothing happens, so the thoughts end up being fleeting. Before I would just fixate because my mind and body were working in tandem, that doesn't happen now. That is a new kind of built in willpower, that is a different feeling. I have had to work with that feeling. I can still let my brain take over and just eat even if I am not hungry, but it is hollow. You just don't get the same satisfaction. Lastly, being aware of your issues is a good first step. Also find a buddy to talk to on those rough days. Good luck

I am still good on bras for now. I am almost to the point I need to get some new ones and go down a band size. I am going to give these a shot, since they come in 2 packs and are cheaper. http://www.simplybe.com/bras/all-bras/icat/allbras A good bra can take 10lbs off you, so its not the place to skimp when you want to look good in clothes. I will just only buy 2 at a time until I get to a stable weight.

3-4 oz of small shrimp 2 oz of Zoodles (Zucchini Noodles) 1 spray of Olive Oil 1/2 tsp crushed garlic Seasoning to taste If your shrimp are frozen, put them on a bowl and run cold Water over them at just above a drip for 5 minutes and they will thaw out (not for Californians). Then weigh them to be sure of the weight. Cut your zoodles using your perfered method (Veggetti etc), weigh for 2 oz. Heat non stick skillet on medium heat and spray with olive oil (I have a Misto I use to spray oil), or any non stick. Season your shrimp and cook them until just pink, about 2-3 minutes depending on temp. Add zoodles, stir together, cook another minute or 2 so zoodles can absorb flavor. Remove zoodles to bowl, stack shrimp on top. You can have this ready in less than 15 minutes, even with frozen shrimp, the cook time is about 5 minutes. Adjust the shrimp to zoodle ration to fit your macro needs. I even made a nutrition label, You have to add your own fat/oil count.

Total out of pocket cost with BCN Michigan
OutsideMatchInside replied to LenaForte's topic in Insurance & Financing
I don't have BCN, but you are going to have to end up paying at least $3000 since that is your out of pocket max. The co-insurance payments should be included to that 3000. Call your insurance and just ask them, they will tell you. -

Much like @@BLERDgirl I live/lived a very active life. I worked out, walked a lot (can run skinny people into the ground at a mall), etc. The only thing I kinda have on hold right now are some pricier overseas vacations. Those are really more planning and than waiting to get skinny, You only this young, in this moment once. Anyone can die at any moment. Don't stop living life or put things on hold waiting to magically be x size or weight. Live this life, be happy with who you are right now, because if you aren't happy with yourself now, you won't be happy when you are smaller either. -

When did you buy new clothes?
