  1. I paid $250 to my Dr for a consultation and paperwork The rest was $0. I had already met my out of pocket expenses for the year.

    taking regular meds after surgery

I was able to take huge pills like normal. Never had any issues, never cut them, never crushed them. Took them all normally. Within 36 hour post-op.

24 weeks pregnant and losing weight.

Exactly. Babies will suck all the nutrients they need from your body, including your bones. Babies will get what they need, you take the vitamins and eat so you stay healthy.

    Halo ice cream

My friend eats it out the carton and I am like what? How? Why? I put my bowl on the scale, tare it out, add my halo top, and put the rest back in the freezer. I get 4 to 5 servings per container. When I first started eating it I was getting 8 servings per container because I just used it to add a little flavor and moisture to my protein brownies/cakes. If someone is just eating it out the carton, sigh...

    Low energy/Lethargic

Do you have a high pain tolerance? If you do then you can probably solider on. If you don't, well it might be harder for you. Pain tolerance seems to be a major factor. I had enough energy at 4 weeks to be fairly normal. you just have to plan so you can relax or sit if you need to. Everyone is different though and this is major surgery. You have no idea what you post-op life is going to be like until it happens and other people can't really tell you.
  6. A thread that went to hell with hurt feelings and didn't involve me... I came to see what all the status update crying was about (also pretty obvious someone is fresh from WLS because their feathers are so easily ruffled). All I am going to say is when you are fresh from surgery, not even 6 months. It seems impossible you can eat xyz or do whatever. Most of us are guilty of thinking that is the way it will always be. When you heal at 6 months it is almost like a switch flips. Boom you can eat more, well feel less restriction. 9 months again, 12 months again. Then by 24 months like Greenie said boredom has set in (I am completely bored with the whole thing) you feel totally normal and it is pretty easy to slip. No one that is over a year out is going to take someone less than 3 months from surgery seriously. This is like some kid fresh outta college trying to lecture me about IT when I have had 2 successful businesses and a 20 plus year career. The best thing someone freshly sleeved can do is learn the habits of people that fail. I can name off the top 2... They don't track They don't measure WLS patient or not people who track are more successful period. My BFF lost more weight than 1/2 the people that post here in a shorter time, without any weight loss surgery, eating the same way and just tracking her food.

A drastic change in your food can changed your cycle.

    Halo ice cream

I eat it pretty often but I am 2 years out. I wouldn't eat it the first month, or 6 months post-op. It is a waste of calories for the protein at that point.

Insurance exclusion but still approved for surgery

A lot of insurance companies frown on this and consider it a form of insurance fraud. So the ability to use this will vary.

    When does hunger return?

Immediately or never, lol. It is different for everyone. I had head hunger pretty much right away. Anyone will on a liquid diet. Physical hunger? Very very rarely. I pretty much have to go 12 to 16 hours without eating to get physically hungry and then my sleeve is so small it is very easy to ignore, too easy honestly. I can easily go 24-36 hours without eating. Which is why I track my food so my app reminds me to eat. I have pretty much zero physical hunger. My head hunger is very low at this point. I love food and I still really enjoy my food but it doesn't rule my life. Just meet your protein goals. I also found the further out I got from surgery and the less fear I had about eating possibly hurting, the more I was willing to eat.

    Have I already ruined it??

@erinhazey Pouch reset is a FAD diet and completely useless. You already said what you needed to do. Which is weigh your portions and not eyeball them. Also you are healing you are SUPPOSED to be able to eat more as time goes on. I started off only being able to eat an ounce at a time and I could eat 2-3 ounces by your point. By 6 months it was 3-4. I'm 2 years out and I can eat 4-6. This is dense protein. I can eat endless amounts of sliders like just about everyone else. If you are eating protein, alone and protein first, you almost never have to worry about over eating, what you can eat is limited. You will also be full longer. Learn to work with your sleeve instead of against it. Liquids, soft foods, sliders. They all work AGAINST your tool, not with it. The sleeve isn't like bypass or other surgeries. The best tool we have is our restriction and that resriction is triggered by DENSE protein. You are early out so your protein can only be so dense, but protein is always going to make you the fullest, and give you the most satisfaction. It will prevent you from making bad choices and other mistakes because it is satisfying and takes up all the room in your sleeve. Make your life easy and work with your surgery and not against it.

    Lifeway Protein Kefir

You can buy it on amazon but it has terrible macros for a bariatric patient. The sugar is equal to the carbs, 20 to 20. Most programs want you to limit protein drinks to 5g of sugar or less per serving. Also there are 2 servings per bottle so that is 40 carbs. Contrast that with a premier protein shake which is 5 carbs.

    Just a little vent!

It is no different than have a script, Insurance makes you wait 30 days. The insurance that requires the 6 months are really picky. Be glad you have a good program that knows the rules and follows them. So many people have one little mistake set them back. It is so late in the year, that a mistake at this point means 2018 surgery.

    Drinking liquids with the sleeve

2 years out I pretty much drink like anyone else that has not had WLS. I can chug 12-16 ounces without taking a breath. I could drink about 8 ounces at one year. When I had my sleeve I had a live swallow test and and you can pretty much see that liquids instantly start seeping through the valve at the bottom of your stomach. I only wait 30 minutes before and after meals to drink. I also take sips with meals if I am eating something dry.

    Dating is hard

I have a friend that lost weight without WLS and she taught me some tricks about how to eat very little on dates and not attract a lot of attention. If you are dating and eating out all the time, you can easily gain weight, especially a woman that has a normal stomach so you have to learn how to eat without really eating too much. I feel like men accept that you are not able to eat all your food when you order a lot of food. I order normal entrees. You just draw attention to the fact that you are not eating much by not ordering much. When you are eating very little and other people are pigging out, that makes them nervous and self conscious. Salads with protein are the best because you can eat all the protein some of the salad greens push it all around and they don't care. They don't want to eat salad either. Split an appetizer with them, tell them you just wanted a taste and a big strong guy like them needs it more than you I don't drink or smoke. I also look 10 to 12 years younger than I am. I claim my youthful looks are because I don't drink, smoke and I eat well. Really it is just genetics but they don't know my mom is in her 60s with no wrinkles. Talking a lot and being engaging, they won't notice you aren't eating if you are flirting hard enough and have some good stories to tell. You have to have a plan of attack before a date so you aren't caught off guard. Also I think this is probably a hard sell for you, considering the area of the country you live in. Everyone on the coasts, or in other major metros are doing some kind of special diet, so most people don't bat an eye when you tell them you are low carbing. Another thing to think about is, try to pick men that are into fitness. They are not going to expect a woman of a certain age to be a glutton. I go for the outdoors active types. The swimmers, hikers, cyclists, water sports.

    Can't sleep comfortably!

I slept on my side and my stomach on night 3 or 4 by supporting my stomach. Wearing a binder or some light shapewear will hold you in tighter and it shouldn't be an issue.

Best WLS for my weight? Process?

Unless a Dr only does one (my Dr only does the Sleeve which is why I chose him), most will talk to you about the surgery and let you choose. I would NEVER let a Dr choose for me. They don't live with the surgery, you do.

    Dating is hard

Well you dodged a bullet. She is used to bums and isn't used to being treated nicely. In the end she would have treated you badly because she doesn't feel worthy of a good man. When people show you what kind of person they are, believe them. She was a low quality woman and you are lucky you didn't waste time on her. If a guy isn't contacting me on a daily basis, and he hasn't told me before hand he is busy. He goes to the bottom of the pile or is blocked.

    Dating is hard

I don't think it is moving too fast either. That is pretty much expected behavior from a man that is seriously trying to court you. Men ask you on casual dates when they are trying to be casual. I have certain expectations on how I want to be treated and I expect a man to meet those expectations. I feel like if you ask someone out and they don't want to do that kind of date, then they are not the person for you. People should date like minded compatible people. The issue is, no one courts or dates like civilized people anymore. I am not with that Netflix and chill or sit in Starbucks like it is the library BS. Back to OP. Dating is a numbers game, you have to kiss a lot of frogs to find a prince. If you are serious about dating you need to date 2 to 3 guys at a time and let the best man win. Dating one guy at a time is a huge waste for a lot of reasons. I always think after WLS we blame a lot of issues on WLS, when really it is just hard to find someone period.

    Rice/pasta alternatives

Overall I don't have the room for them, even at 2 years after eating my protein. It isn't really worth it to make a side to only have one bite or 2. Zucchini noodles work well and so does riced cauliflower.

@Asil61 Do you like seafood? Mexican is a bad choice for a variety of reasons, mainly beacuse it is something that people volume eat. Most plates come with 3 to 4 tacos, so eating one stands out. If you have to get Mexican, why not get Fajitas or Quesadilla? You say you low carb, lots of people low carb now, and just eat the meat and veggies. I do this a lot especially if I go to a sports bar or something and there are limited options on the menu. Just eating the filling from a Quesadilla is not that filling and if you say you low carb before hand, you don't raise eyebrows.
