Have you tried keep low carb/low calorie sweets on you? I try to keep something on me, so if I get tempted I have a better option. Lily's chocolate, protein bar, protein brownie, keto cookie, something. Long term I think it is better to have replacements than just try to flat out deprive yourself. At least it is working for me

Let's Dish!!! Do You Still Like To Cook and Interact With Food?
OutsideMatchInside replied to FluffyChix's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I love cooking more now than before because instead of making a lot of time tested family recipes. I am making lots of new recipes with new ingredients (healthy substitutions). Also I cook one serving at time, sometimes 2, so my cooking involves a lot of math which I also enjoy. Meal prep and cooking is a part of my entire meal. That makes my small meals seem longer and more satisfying, even though the portions are small. I cook all my meals fresh as I eat them and that also adds a lot of enjoyment for me, since I love fresh food. I'm probably more of a foodie, food snob than ever before. I make every calorie count like it is a dollar I spending. I refuse to eat anything subpar or that I don't like. If I get something out and it doesn't taste good, I just toss it. -

Bored With Weight Loss. Recipe for regain?
OutsideMatchInside replied to OutsideMatchInside's topic in WLS Veteran's Forum
Long time no see! Yeah I learned that tail end of summer that not tracking is not an option for me. I have a lot of flexibility in how I eat, but I still need to track because it is easy to let things get out of hand. I have to accept that I will always have to be conscious of what I eat, and in what quantities. Which can seem overwhelming when you think about an entire lifetime, but it is still better than the alternative. Being super morbidly obese is not an option. -
Torrid for regular sizes?
OutsideMatchInside replied to Mama V's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
@sleevedshereen If I wanted to insult you, I would do it directly and @ you, not indirectly. I'm not passive aggressive. Unless you are a stock holder in these brands (and even if you are), you have no reason to be offended unless you just want to be. I shop at all of those stores, which is how I know what they stock and the quality. I already said I like hoe clothes and if you read my whole post before flying off the handle you would have realized that, you stopped at Preppy and skipped over the hoe part. I have said it multiple times here over the past year since I have been shopping in regular sizes. I bought tanks and dresses from old navy when I was transitioning sizes and I suggested other people shop there too because it is cheap, cheaper than thrift stores when there is a sale. However the price reflects the quality and you can't compare Old Navy to Banana Republic or J.Crew. The cuts and fabrics at Old Navy are inferior, however they are great if you are transitioning sizes rapidly because of the costs. The vanity sizing there along with the inferior cuts, is a bit much though, so you don't get a good grasp on your sizing in normal sizes. Charolette Russe is not comparable at all to Torrid in regular sizes. The quality is lower, but the prices are lower too, so that balances out. The shoes in both stores are crappy, so they are equal there. The jewelry at Torrid is slightly better, but the jewelry at CR is cuter and cheaper. CR because of their price point does not have all the licensed graphic tees like Torrid does. They have random graphic tees. A lot of their stuff is made of inferior materials and you have to hand wash it, it can't go in the machine or the dryer. Most of their clothes are designed for single wear, because once water touches it, it is never the same. They are seriously fast fashion, worse than F21. they have no distinctive style, the clothes they sell you can get anywhere. They make the same clothes as everyone else and they recycle styles a lot. I like Windsor better for wear once club clothes, they have better designs and construction, but it is decidedly smaller juniors cuts. Torrid has a very distinct and collective style. They have rockabilly looks, trendy hoewear or the proper term, clubwear, lots of collaborations with licensed clothes (Disney, Star Wars, Marvel), and punk. All in one store. There is no brand that has that in normal sizes, not a womens specialty store. A Dept Store juniors section is the closest anyone is going to get to that, because they stock multiple brands. Most womens specialty brands are not that eclectic in style. I have been short changing Torrid because their pricing and down grade in quality has annoyed me over the years but honestly they are a very unique clothing brand with a unique market position, they have no equivalent in womens specialty clothing. OP specifically asked about youthful clothing, Torrid is unique in their offerings and there is no duplication in normal sizes. -

Sleeve VS RNY (Any advice welcome!)
OutsideMatchInside replied to Road2Newme3's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Long term, 2 years plus, the weight loss between RNY and the Sleeve are about the same. The first year, you lose more with RNY, but it balances out in year 2. The surgery you choose is completely person choice, you can be successful or fail with either. As a young active person, my Dr suggested the sleeve, and I lost almost 200 pounds with it. How much weight you lose really depends on you and your choices not the surgery. Good luck on choosing. There are literally hundreds of threads on this topic, try using the search feature and you will find plenty of discussions on it. -
How about NO vitamins?!
OutsideMatchInside replied to els's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
http://jn.nutrition.org/content/136/4/1126.full It is because of the melanin in our skin. I spend all summer in the sun and I walk in the sun every day in the winter no matter what and I still had low vitamin D. -
Torrid for regular sizes?
OutsideMatchInside replied to Mama V's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
@Mama V I absolutely hate Torrid. I was so gleeful that I would never have to shop there again. I hate their high prices and low quality (their shoes are complete trash you can see the glue on them). However they do have a really unique brand style and there is no regular size store equivalent, not where you can get all the same things in one place. CR just sell cheap, poorly made hoe clothes, like Fashion Nova and all the online stores, they have no identity. F21 same thing, and they are slowly raising prices and keeping the same trash quality. I like Asos, I shopped there as plus and I get things from there, but they don't have a strong brand identity either, they sell main stream trendy fashion but in a very middle of the road kind of way. Old navy just sells boring american "classics" in terrible colors, cuts, fabrics and styles. The only purpose of old navy is it is cheap, almost everything in there feels and wears terrible. The only place I can seriously think of that has dresses in variety (from hoe to quirky) and a great selection of graphic tees is really the Macy's Junior section. You can get Disney and Star wars, other sci-fi and pop culture tees and they come decently in vintage tee washes too. The great and terrible thing about regular sizes is you can shop everywhere, but now you also have to shop everywhere. I have to shop so many stores and brands to build my wardrobe now. It is a lot of fun but the choices can be overwhelming, Then when you add in vanity sizing, and size variations, it can be very daunting. This Fall is my first effort at building a semi-perm wardrobe (my size is going to change when I have plastics next year), and I first looked in the stores at what is available. Then I really thought about what looks I wanted and needed. I like preppy and crisp for day looks, classic dress looks (Jackie O) for Sundays/Brunch, and as whorish as possible without looking like an actual street walker for evenings. I wanted to grab some pieces that even if I can't wear them in a year or 2 they have resale value or I can give them to people. So I looked at what brands still sell on eBay. I also wanted a wardrobe upgrade (buying cashmere instead of wool sweaters). Then I made a list of things I needed and in what quantity. Then I thought about the color range so shoes, bags and other things would co-ordinate. It took a little time but it has helped a lot. -

Sleeve too small
OutsideMatchInside replied to lgravois's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@lgravois Unless you have a stricture, your sleeve is not too small. If you have a stricture that could be dilated. If you had a stricture, you would not not able to consume the amount of food that you can currently. You are barely 1 one year out. Your capacity is likely to increase over the next year. Example at 1 year I could eat 4 ChickFila nuggets comfortably, now I can easily eat 8, and uncomfortably eat 12. I wouldn't modify your sleeve at all. Also yes, you lost a lot of weight in one year but you had a lot to lose. I lost the bulk of my weight the first year and the rest slowly. If you want to stop your weight loss, you can just increase your calories. Stopping your weight loss with the sleeve is really easy, you are completely in control -
Can't back away from iced coffee !!!
OutsideMatchInside replied to Lovin2lose's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I have iced coffee and coffee. I use stevia an half and half. I mean you know what the problem is. Decide if iced coffee is worth being obese for. I don't think it is. You want sugar or you just want a "treat", it is better to figure out WHY you want this, that is the only way you are going to get past it. -
Do u count protein and carbs??
OutsideMatchInside replied to Dolcy1182's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
It is just personal choice really. At 1000 calories you should lose no matter what. The trick is to find a way of eating that you can stick to without feeling like you are deprived. -

Too Much Meds
OutsideMatchInside replied to Missytee's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The only thing that seems abnormal is the mouth wash and the 4 days of using the antibacterial soap. I used used it the night before and day of surgery. I had a PPI, anti-nausea, oxy, tylenol w/codine, I would rather have a cautious Dr than one that wasn't. Overall is pretty normal but everyone doesn't get all those. Like I filled all my scripts, but I didn't use them all. I was never really nausous so I never used that, and I stopped taking pain meds when I got home so I could drive. I stil have those pain meds on the shelf. The PPI don't skip it. -
feeling bummed
OutsideMatchInside replied to FabNFit@40's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Insurance might require a 6 month program but I have never read in any insurance policy that you are required to lose weight. Dr Offices set that requirement. if someone has a super high BMI over 60 and it is unsafe to do surgery until they lose weight, okay. However there is no reason to drag it out and require a lower BMI person to lose weight. If people could lose weight on their own they wouldn't need surgery. Obese patients are still discriminated against to get services, in ways that would not apply to other medical treatments. This to me is complete BS. My weight can fluctuate by 5 pounds just based on where I am on my menstrual cycle. I also bloat/hold water in the summer. I barely lost anything on my pre-op diet because it was 105 degrees every day of my diet and I was bloated the whole time. -
This didn't work for me
OutsideMatchInside replied to Sleeved in DFW :-)'s topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This is not true AT ALL -
Well really doing keto is not super high fat. You set your protein goals based on your lean mass. Then you set your other goals around that. When I was trying to lose harder, my calories and fat grams and calories were lower. These are my current macro goals, It is still a deficit daily but not as high. This is what my macros used to be around 6 months post op, then I increased my protein based on my DEXA scans... Honestly I rarely hit my goal for fat, I always hit my goal for protein and I always keep my carbs under 25. This is how I have eaten pretty much the whole time. The way you eat doesn't matter. What does matter is finding a way to eat that you can stick to easily while remaining on a calories deficit. I thought you were getting a revision. You keep making the same posts over and over about regain but none of the advice anyone gives you seems to be sticking.

Which insurance companies cover the ESG procedure?
OutsideMatchInside replied to SammieKay's topic in Endoscopic Sleeve Gastroplasty Forum
@SammieKay This is your 2nd thread in a month asking this question. Everyone that has the procedure that I have read their posts have been self pay, the few people that said insurance covered it confused it with VSG. There are only a few surgeons performing the surgery and none are in Alabama. Also Alabama is a state that does not consider bariatric coverage a necessity and plans, marketplace plans, are not required to provide any weight loss or bariatric coverage in the state of Alabama. -
Sugar alcohol
OutsideMatchInside replied to Dabearo's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
In Europe Net Carbs are the standard, but they are usually subtracting fiber. @Dabearo The bigger concern than the net carbs or sugar alcohol is how your body reacts to it. I can't handle sugar alcohol. It gives me terrible painful gas and makes me feel overall weird. Net carbs or not, those candies don't really seem worth it. Why not drink water with some flavored water drops instead.
