5 Months Out. Stalled. Need Encouragement

Stop grazing. Are you logging your food? Log every single bite. Weigh what you eat. A "bite" is not a scientific measurement. It can vary wildly. I like Peanut Butter. I don't keep it in the house anymore, because I will just eat a spoonful. It doesn't seem that bad, but peanut butter is really calorie dense, so a spoon here or there really adds up to extra calories. Tracking those spoonfuls helps me understand how they add up. When you are 6 months out and really healed, you will be able to eat more in volume and more things. All your grazing at that point will just multiply. If you don't get a handle on it now you are going totally spiral out of control.

    Why do people regain

@@Medowsweet It is such a complicated topic. The people I know that have regained, regained because they started enjoying life so much, they stopped following the plan. People naturally gain weight with age. Some regain isn't an issue, 100% and then some regain is an issue. Not everyone that has surgery is suited for it. A lot of people have unsupportive environments (spouses, co-workers, friends, family). They haven't done the mental work to lose weight and maintain a loss, which is why once they heal, they don't lose anymore, or they start gaining. Unwilling/unable to make lasting lifestyle changes. I have never seen a comprehensive study about regain. They just look at numbers and never do in depth surveys or interviews. The most obvious is, are people still weighing themselves? If you weigh yourself every day or even weekly, how do you regain 30-50lbs? Why don't you make changes at 10lbs? The reasons are probably because of some of the things I listed above. Surgery is just a tool, it is only part of it. Most of it is mental, and unfortunately, you do need some will power post-op because head hunger is really real.

    Scared of the gym

@@sweetdarling1983 I think having a gym buddy is really fail. You have to learn how to motivate yourself. Every time i have had a workout partner they have held me back more than helped me. If they lack motivation, and consistency they will hold you back. Why not walk? You can lose a lot of weight just walking. Do you have a dog? Walk the dog? Walk with your kids, you can use that time to talk about school etc. I started walking in my neighborhood and I made friends with my neighbors, all kinds of neighbors I never even knew before.

    1st stall

I weigh myself every day but only Mondays count. Your body has to adjust to weight loss. It can be hard to accept emotionally, but your body will drop pounds, inches and recover. Stall are an important and needed part of losing weight. The soon you learn to look at them that way, the better. Stress makes it harder to lose weight, not easier.
  5. @@gpmed I don't think so. I lost 100lbs and my RMR was higher than expected for someone my height and weight. I have lost an additional 30ish pounds and I am going to have it tested again soon. We will see if I have taken a nose dive after 120ish pound loss. I think the issue is how they lost weight, not that they lost weight. You can't really let a "study" of 16 people be canon.

    Scared of the gym

@@sweetdarling1983 If you are scared of the gym, don't go. The stress isn't worth it. Stressing yourself out is counter productive. I walk in my neighborhood, I walk in the park. Exercise in a real environment instead of a fake one like the gym is better for you and you engage more muscles. I walk 2 to 5 miles a day depending on how much free time I have. As far as Yoga, it is totally a real work out. Tell your husband NFL players do yoga. You will get muscles and everything doing yoga. You have to be strong to do the poses and you get stronger learning. Yoga will give you long strong lean muscles and it will also help with tightening your skin. I wouldn't do yoga at a gym though, I would find a nice yoga studio. I go to a yoga studio and everyone is kind, helpful and supportive. I first started going when I was a little lighter than you, and I wasn't the biggest person there. At 280, you already are under the weight limit for Aerial Yoga. Aerial is a little easier, and since you are in the sling, if you are conscious about how you look, you are hidden. There are lots of ways to work out, you don't have to do it in a gym. I cancelled my gym membership recently because it was a waste. I have weights I purchased at Walmart to work out my arms at home, and I have leg weights I wear when I walk to burn extra calories. You can get a little equipment for at home and get started with a $20-30 investment.

How plus size stores rip us off!

Hot pink would be great. Yeah I forgot to include coats as worth it. My grandmother used to make the most beautiful wool coats. I am partial to evening gowns myself.

Thankful for my WLS Partner: Get one!

I connected with someone here on the forums and we have been WLS buddies. We have almost the same surgery date. We try to keep each other motivated and on track. In addition to texting each other we are fitbit buddies also, so we can push each other to be active. Since almost no one that knows me knows about my surgery and I don't really have any overweight friends, making this connection has been very important to me in my weight loss. I really encourage people to seek out a weight loss peer who had surgery around the same time as you so you can have someone to share this experience with. I tell my WLS buddy a lot of things I don't tell anyone else or post on forums because I know they are going through similar issues.

How plus size stores rip us off!

I love sewing but fabric costs so much now, unless you are making evening attire, it isn't even cost effective to sew anymore.

How plus size stores rip us off!

The maternity clothes cost more than the plus and the misses on old navy.com I don't get shopping at Old Navy, I looked at the stuff they had, especially the mens, and the price variations and stuff make zero sense. It looks like a huge price structure cluster ****, not to mention the fabrics all feel terrible.

    hate your job?

word of mouth is the best advertising. encourage customers to leave reviews and start an IG page to make yourself more visible, for starters.

    hate your job?

I can't imagine having a job I hate. When I worked in corporate america, I loved my career and I lived for it. I have worked for myself for 10 years and I love what I do. Each day is different and rewarding. I encourage you to think about how you can make your etsy business support you, you might be surprised at how you can grow it.

    Curvy girl clothing issues...HELP!

I don't like how the Levi's feel and the curvy skinny aren't tight enough on the legs for me, but I do like how they fit in the waist and the hips.

The forums are getting out of control

I would rather deal with the drama on here, than be on other forums. Most other WLS forums are dead, and they don't have the wealth of advice that is here. There is more activity here in a day than on most other forums in a month or a week. This is all pretty much thanks to the app, which non of the other sites have. That makes the site very accessible to a lot of people which is a good and bad thing. When you have a lot of people that have their hormones all in flux this is what happens. When I get sick of it, I take a break. I am getting tired of people whining about how the forums are, and making threads and posts about it, when they are just adding to the drama.

How plus size stores rip us off!

They aren't more expensive. The plus sizes at Walmart and Target are the same or only $2 more. The clothes at Lane Bryant are cheap compared to the plus size clothes at Nordstrom, Macy's and Neimans. People are comparing Kias to Toyotas, and Toyotas to Bentley. In the same store, plus sizes barely cost more than regular sizes. That is a fact.

    July Sleever

So, how are we doing? I am still losing, slowly now. My body is doing a lot of adjustments. I am really happy with my progress, but I have to remind myself to be realistic.
  20. I have a salad in the afternoon. It is a great snack, not really filling on its own since when you chew it up its mostly water and mush. So, you can eat "a lot" of salad. Calories are very low for the amounts you can eat, 3 ounces of fresh spinach is a huge looking amount and only 20 calories.

How plus size stores rip us off!

It really isn't fair or logical to compare specialty stores to big box stores. The prices at Lane Bryant are no worse than the prices at The Limited/New York and Co. All the plus size stores have tons of sales and coupons all the time. I never pay full price. I really don't like ragging on Lane Bryant and these other plus size stores. When I was a size 28, they were there for me and provided me goods and services when I had no other options. I could buy racy lingerie, pretty matching bras and panties and still feel like a sexy young woman. When I needed suits for work, I could go there. Just because I don't have to shop there anymore doesn't mean I am going to look down on them. They are providing important goods and services to a lot of women that wouldn't have other options. Just because you aren't fat anymore, doesn't mean you get to look down on fat people and their issues and needs. Compassion is free.
  22. Where did you read this? There is a lot of research that you don't need carbs, especially man made ones to function. Most of the carbs we have now didn't even exist for most of human history.

How plus size stores rip us off!

The Danskin workout clothes at Walmart (not the sports bras but the other stuff) are just as good as some of the workout clothes I have spent 10X as much on. There are lots of things I won't buy there, but I'd rather spend $12 on compression leggings than $85. Something that close to your body with all the heat is going to break down at the same rate. Plus, most of this stuff is all made in the same factories with the same materials, the only difference is the labels and the marketing.

    Clothes Shopping

Forever21, Charlotte Russe, Target, Macy's, eBay, Nordstrom Rack, and Off 5th. I got a dress from Forever21 for 14.95. If I wear it twice it's paid for. I got coffee in the airport and it was $6. The time trying on clothes, costs more than the clothes.
