Driving LOOOOONG distance after surgery. Good or bad?

When I was about 4 weeks out, I drove around 800-900 miles in a weekend, in a 36 hour time period. I had to. I was fine. If you are 4-6 weeks out you might have the energy to do so. The issue after blood clots is fatigue. You get very sleepy, very fast after surgery, you can have a lot of energy, and then boom, exhausted. If you are able to eat, well early on you will probably have the energy. I was able to meet my Protein goals on day 2, and I have met and exceeded them almost every single day since surgery. Most people aren't like that. They have issues with getting their protein in, I don't. I also have an Iron sleeve. It is just risky to plan something like this when you have no idea how you will feel after surgery.
  2. I am curious about this question as well, ridgerunner... What's the tipping point between choosing RNY or DS? I don't know if you have ever seen the show "My 600lb Life" but even they don't get DS when they have hundreds and hundreds of pounds to lose. Sent from my SM-G925T using the BariatricPal App Well Dr Now can't bother to learn the DS since he does 50 other surgeries that he shouldn't be doing, including plastics. He really isn't the best doctor, don't get me started, oh wait I already started...

    Thin crust pizza

I make my own pizza with either fat head crust or flatout wraps. Pizza isn't really my thing but I try to have it every now and then to add variety to my food choices so I don't get bored. I use turkey pepperoni, and chicken Italian sausages. I also use a low carb pizza sauce. http://mycadia.com/product.php?p=Food&c=Staples&s=25276#!/197442 http://www.flatoutbread.com/products/flatout-wraps/flatout-proteinup/low-carb-flatbreadcore-12/

    Pregnant 6 months after surgery

@@sarah7 Please wait. Babies will always get their nutrition, they will leech it from your body. You don't eat and have good nutrition for the baby, you do it so you stay strong and the baby doesn't leech it from your bones and the rest of your body. You risk mainly your health in this situation. You need a lot of strength and stamina to deal with newborns, infants and toddlers. Wait until you are fully healed. I am almost a year out and the way I feel, how much I can eat, and my energy at 11 months compared to 4 months is massive.

    Dissolvable stitches/sutures

I don't think any doctors use stitches that have to be removed. My incisions were held together by glue.

    Monthly Budget on food/vitamins/etc.?

I spent $50 a month on Vitamins, in all fairness I spent this amount on vitamins before surgery. I take some specialty hair vitamins, that I have taken for years. My other vitamins are like $20 a month and I spent that before surgery also anyway. I don't use fiber supplements, I tried them and they gave me the worst constipation I ever had. I don't need Protein anymore, I use it for emergencies or if I am behind but I can get all my protein from normal food. I spend $40-60 on protein convenience items, but it could easily be $10. I just choose to buy some items because I want to, like my protein brownies. I used to spend $20-60 a day on food and coffee because I ate out all the time. I spend $50-60 a week on groceries. It really could be much lower, but saving money isn't a goal. I just get what I want.
  7. @@reachbree Ignore them, and focus on yourself. If you are on your liquid diet, you really don't need this drama. Good luck and update us after surgery

@OutsideMatchInside I made that (with regular cole slaw dressing) for a party recently - it was delicious! I added shelled sunflower seeds and craisins (not sure if you can have them post-op).

    People Meeting the New You

@@JamieLogical I'm surprised so many people comment on how you eat or you running. When I am in your neck of the woods, it seems like so many people are active and eat healthy. When I was in the Finger Lakes there were so many good low carb options at every restaurant and so many people seem to lead active healthy lives.

I'm just going to leave this right here.

@@gpmed I have read WLS forums off and on for 10 years or more and so many people actively hate themselves it amazes me. This isn't just me inferring it, they say it in posts. Some times it is more passive, like they just gave up, no reason to put lipstick on a pig but there is a lot of out right hostility that people have towards themselves that baffles me. I got fat indulging my every single whim because I felt I deserved it. Fried shrimp, steak and cheesecake? Why not. My experience was kind of like yours I really love myself and I had to stop abusing my body for temporary pleasure of food. I felt like losing weight was the ultimate in self love. Although I will totally admit I would still be fat and eating whatever if I could do it and be healthy. Health is wealth though and I want to be healthy.

    High BMI

@@biglady904 That BMI puts you in super morbidly obese, you don't need illnesses at that BMI. With BCBS that BMI is basically auto-approval.
  12. @@Daisee68 You can live entirely without a stomach in the worse case scenario. If something goes wrong with your intestines it is basically a death sentence, either short or long, but no matter what it is horrific. Even Drs say the worse thing about RNY is touching the intestines, that basically you should never touch healthy intestines. The Dr on Fat Doctor talked about it several times. It is also "cleaner" because the intestines aren't cut, with the sleeve the stomach is cut and sealed at that same time. RNY involves more cuts and more stitches, creating a greater margin of error, and again, cutting into the intestines.

Not losing on pre op diet

@@CAmom2016 I didn't really lose weight on my pre-op diet. Mainly because it was like 100 degrees the whole time and I was retaining Water. If you really aren't eating carbs, your liver is going to shrink. I lost less than 7 pounds pre-op and my liver was fine.

What is on your Trader Joe's Shopping List?

I just discovered the Uncured Turkey Hot Dogs. They are the first hotdogs I have seen with decent macros. 2 of them are about the calorie and Protein equal to steak. Most hot dogs are high in calories and low in protein. These also have the benefit of tasting good. They plump nicely on the grill. Broccoli cole slaw is also a nice choice at TJ. It is just dry greens. I added walden farms calorie free cole claw salad dressing. Perfect cole slaw, about 14 caloies for a bari serving, 25 calories for a normal serving.

    Protein Bars

@@BariBlanca Oh Yeah One are my favorite and I feel they have some of the best marcos. Quest bars don't have 1/2 the flavor these bars have. The best Quest bar imo is the apple pie because the taste is the most authentic and it can fill the fruit void. What Protein bars you like are person choice. I hate chocolate so a lot things that people like, are chocolate based, which is like licking trashcans to me.

How do I tell my surgeon he screwed up?

The reason people are asking because there is no way a 20 ounce steak should even be in front of you. I wasn't even cleared to have steak until 6 months. And now at 11 months, I eat 3-4 ounces of cooked steak, that's it. I know that is how much I eat because I weigh it before I eat it, I would never put that large a portion in front of myself. At the end of the day you are over eating and blaming it on your sleeve. Even a person with a normal stomach shouldn't be eating a 20 ounce steak. A proper portion of meat is 3-4 ounces.
  20. You guys doing it without Protein shakes are the real MVP. I couldn't do it. I was having a Protein shake every morning for years before surgery just so I wouldn't skip Breakfast. My program moves you off them as you can eat more food, but they are encouraged in the beginning so you don't starve. If you are starving you won't lose weight, and your hair, skin and nails will be affected. Add some softer foods, like a really moist baked fish like swai or cod. Salmon can be tough. chicken is another thing that can make it hard to get enough protein in. Good luck.

I'm just going to leave this right here.

I spent yesterday working all day, looks like I missed the fun. In a land (WLS land) where so many people really ******* hate themselves, it is rare to find people that actually like themselves. The people that do, stand out so much.

Are Protein Bars even worth it?

I am sitting here kind of ticked off at myself. I just finished 1/2 a Protein bar, and I realized for the calories I could have had a piece of fish with double the protein. I have a real love hate relationship with Protein Bars. They are convenient, but at the end of the day they are just a processed frankenfood. They offer me no real satisfaction beyond the immediate taste, if they taste good. They don't trigger restriction for me, so they are basically just a boring slider food. Not to mention, they are expensive compared to just having meat. I think they are great for emergencies away from home but I really have to stop eating them when I am in the house and don't feel like cooking. This is the price I am paying for not stocking my usual Boar's Head.

    Partner's opinions on loose skin?

@@WitchySar I knew my boobs wouldn't go anywhere, even with all these people telling me that you lose your tits. Most of the women in my family have had reductions. When I was "fat" in middle school at 135lbs and 5'4 I was a D cup. I wore a training bra for like a month, then I was a C cup. I was a D cup all through HS and College. I too like having big boobs, the extra money I spend on good bras pays for itself in free goods and services with my big titty card. I always liked how I looked for the most part. I had friends of all different weights and heights and I knew that no matter your size, clothes and mirrors aren't magic and most women have a hard time finding things that fit them how they want and they also have things they don't like, so at 365, I didn't feel like my issues with clothes were just weight based. I was just discussing with a friend that lost a lot of weight that right now I feel less confident in my looks than I did before. Simply because before I was a BBW with the face of a 10 and I really stood out as being a very pretty large lady. Now I am like a regular fat chick that looks like she just let herself go a little, it's not the same thing. I was a big fish in a small pond and now I am a small fish in a big pond of regular chicks. You are focusing on your physical attributes that your husband might not like after surgery, but it might not be the physical that he has an issue with. If you really adopt a healthy lifestyle and get into healthy eating and being active, will he like that? Will he be down with eating differently? Will he be okay with you eating differently than everyone else in the house? Will he accommodate you the first few months post-op when surgery is the hardest? Will he like you working out? How about just walking a lot in your neighborhood? Will he think you are too visible to other men? Will he be okay if you keep your big boobs but end up with a small waist more dudes are checking for you? Those are the things I would be worried about if I had a man, more than if he will still be physically attracted to me.
