    Five years

@@sunny145 Surgery doesn't wear off. People that have RNY/Bypass, their malabsorption does not last forever. If they don't learn to eat properly, when their body finally adjusts to it, they will stop losing and start regaining if they don't have a healthy lifestyle. A properly formed sleeve does not stretch, you keep your restriction. What wears off mostly is people motivation and desire to lose weight and keep it off. People lose weight and small things creep into their diet and then become big things. Overall, it is natural to gain weight as you age. If you make real lifestyle changes, it is easier to keep weight off, too many people treat surgery just like a diet. And at 11.5 months, I basically have no physical hunger unless I forget to eat for 12 hours or more. My head hunger is more like a soft faint whisper in the wind, instead of a loud shouting Drill Sergeant.

    Eating post-op

@missengineer@SunshyneRN You might have a temperature sensitivity. I wasn't able to tolerate cold items right after surgery. So the problem might not be thickness but cold. You can add unflavored Protein to broth to make it a protein "drink".

    Hunger post Op

@@SiSSi829 Not sure if it is really sweet, it is different to different people, but you are probably in ketosis. Once you get used to it, isn't as annoying. Is this the same doctor who did your first surgery? Did you have these issues with your first surgery?
  5. @@JuliusJ Having surgery is not going to change your tastes in food. You really need to do the work on emotional eating before you have surgery. Find a good therapist and work on why you eat food for comfort and find other coping mechanisms. The things you listed that you like, chips, ice cream. They are slider foods and they are really easy to eat post-op. Easier than the dense Proteins you are supposed to eat because they don't prompt restriction from your stomach, they just slide down. If those are the things you like, then you will probably still be drawn to them post-op unless you do something about them now. Corn is not a vegetable, it is a starch. Once that is not easily digested by your body. Collard greens are great as long as you don't cook them with pork. Try learning to cook them with smoked turkey wings or necks. If you can learn to eat them raw even better. Find different recipes for vegetables. Try preparing them in different manners. A lot of people grow up on canned or frozen vegetables that are over cooked by Moms. Try eating fresh veggies, that are roasted, grilled or baked. Fresh green Beans sauteed in a pan with a little butter or olive oil and some diced or crushed garlic is delicious. You can cook broccoli the same way. I have very little to no hunger. When I am hungry it is because I have gone over 12 hours without eating and anyone would be hungry at that point. The way it works for me is my brain and my stomach do not work together. Thinking about food does not make me hungry. Before surgery if I thought about food, my stomach acid would get going and I would get hungry, then as my stomach acid was going it fed my brain more, and they worked in tandem until I was in a hunger frenzy. That doesn't happen anymore. I do have head hunger, everyone does, but it is a fleeting thought, my body doesn't react and I can move on. Find a therapist and work on yourself before you have surgery. Surgery won't fix your problems with using food for comfort you have to work that out before hand.

Let's talk incision healing & scars fading!

My Dr told me Vitamin E. I used Vitamin E and ScarAway sheets. Then later bio oil. Almost all of them are invisible. There are 2 I can't find at all anymore, 2 I can barely see and one dark one because they cut right across a big stretch mark. I noticed the other day even the dark one is getting light. I think in a few months is will hardly be noticeable. I wore a crop top recently and the one dark scar I just covered with dermablend and set it with powder.

    My struggles

Losing weight isn't going to fix your self esteem issues, are you seeing a therapist? Losing a lot of weight fast creates new and different problems and if you don't have a good handle on yourself and your feelings, you may have a really difficult time. Your self esteem and self worth should not be tied to how you look or your career or other superficial things. All humans have intrinsic value and worth.

    Alcohol 2 days preop

The purpose of the pre-op diet is to shrink your liver. If you have a low BMI and don't have a fatty liver, it might not be an issue. Just ask your Dr, they know better than anyone on forums. I will just offer the opinion that not drinking post-op is really easy when you make a change of not drinking pre-op.

    Wish I was losing faster

@@jgeldmacher What are your calories at? A tall guy like you should have enough muscle that 100 grams of Protein a day is your bare minimum per day. Your target should probably be 120-130.
  16. http://www.drinkprotein2o.com/protein2o-unveils-brand-revamp/ Saw these in the grocery store and picked one up. I had the tropical cocnut, tastes like Pina Colada. Good Protein to calorie ratio, and it is the consistency of Water, so it should be easy for everyone to drink. They were on sale 4 for $5 at my local grocery. They make a nice summer drink.

    SEARCHING!

Everyone has different bars they like. So you have to find one for your tastes. These are my favroites. Best tasting with the best macros. https://ohyeahnutrition.com/products/copy-of-ohyeah-victory-bars Runner up for taste http://fitcrunchbars.com/ I have those on days I am running low on calories but I am good on Protein. The fit elite versions, with the lower calories suck. I will offer an alternative to Protein Bars. Protein brownies, you can buy them ready made or get the mix and make them yourself. I suggest getting the mix and making them yourself because you can really play with the flavors and the fresh baked at home brownies taste better than the pre-made but the pre-made are good also. They aren't like brownies though really in texture. They are more like dense pound cake. They are filling as a dense protein and really delicious. I found these from following a fellow sleever on IG. http://www.eatmeguiltfree.com/

Best protein powder- mixed and premade!

Where did you buy your protein before? I went to my local Supplement store, told them my needs and they made suggestions to me. If it hadn't been for them I would have never found the awesome unflavored protein powder that kept my sanity so I didn't have to keep drinking sweets every day. My local Supplement store has better prices than Amazon, and they will give you a sample of powders in the store.

@@CelesteMarie While you probably aren't getting 80-100 grams of Protein, it sounds like you are getting the basic 60 grams. So you should be fine. They don't have Protein shakes at gas stations and grocery stores in Hawaii? It is still America. you should be able to find some if you are really concerned.

Do I REALLY need a support person?

@@gina171 I live alone, not near any family or friends and I am single. My friend was here with me for surgery to take me to and from the hospital. I came home 26 hours after surgery, and my friend left the next morning. I was alone, and I was perfectly fine. I stopped taking the pain meds before my friend left and I was up and driving and caring for myself. If you have a smooth recovery and a high pain tolerance, I think you will be fine alone. I actually recommend being alone because it is easier to work through your own emotions without other people projecting their feelings and expectations on you.
  22. @@trekker954 You should be drinking Water all day every day. And drinking your Protein shakes at meals times. In the beginning it is really important to constantly drink as it helps keep your stomach open and prevent dehydration. I'm not sure why they put a limit on how much you can drink at 64 ounces, but other than that, the instructions make perfect sense. The instructions are always assuming that you are actually resting after major surgery and not working. I understand everyone can't take 2 full weeks off from work but you do need to keep drinking all day. You can't just chug water at the end of the day and make up your water needs to avoid dehydration.
