    Metabolism testing (RMR)

Negative comments - not "fat enough"?

@@Jim Paulette First tell them to pound sand. A BMI over 40 puts you at Obesity Class 3, which puts you at high health risk, so you are definitely heavy enough for surgery. The best way to not have to listen to peoples dumb comments about your surgery is not tell them. When you tell people your business, you invite them to comment, good, bad and the ugly.

Looks like I've got some more work to do....

@ DEXA scans are so valuable. I wish they were used more in the US. They should be a part of every bariatric program. Those home scales are crap. which is why I quit buying the $200 scales and got a simple one. They are wholly inaccurate, most people will never really have their body fast tested, so they won't know the difference. Learning how my left and right side were not symmetrical at all was really interesting. It makes sense because when I do my arm and leg measurements, they are never the same. I used to think I was just measuring in different places. I need to make my appointment for my next scan very soon. Thanks for sharing

    Confidence with saggy skin?

@@laGata15 First everyone does not lose their breasts. If you really have breast tissue and not fat, it isn't going anywhere, I was a DD before surgery and now I am a G cup, because my band keeps getting smaller but my breasts are not. I wore weaves and wigs before surgery because I like variety so my hair loss, doesn't even matter. No one sees it at all, and I don't even care, honestly. Doesn't matter to me. I didn't go bald anyway. I know it is thinner in places but most people would never know, and now it is thickening up and growing back like wild fire. Don't care. The skin is annoying, not going to lie about it. I notice it because I see myself naked and there are mirrors all over my place, but 99.999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999% of the people on the planet are never ever going to see my loose skin. Shapewear and clothes hide it fine. I am going to have a tummy tuck at some point once my weight stabilizes, so for me this is a temporary situation. I look amazing in clothes. Hoe is life. I wear all the bodycon dresses I can get my hands on, even just to the grocery store. I can wear Bebe and all the other little tart brands, and I do. I enjoy this body with the loose skin more than I enjoyed my fat firm body because this body gives me a lot of options. I do too many things and have too much energy to be depressed. Everyone is different but pre-op I worried about some of the same things (well not the boobs, I knew they were never going anywhere, everyone in my family has had a reduction surgery), and all the other little ways that my life is richer really balances out all the negatives. I will also say that I worked out a lot of my stress and emotional issues before surgery so I went into surgery with a whole new outlook on life, and that made all the difference.

Caffeine - must it be gone forever?

I really think a lot of plans say no coffee just because most people put ton of calories and junk into their coffee. So they just say no trying to cut those calories. Caffeine keeps me sharp for my profession. Even when I didnt drink coffee right after surgery, I took caffeine pills. I told my Dr I wasn't giving up coffee or caffeine. He talked to me about how I drink my coffee and why, and we agreed it was okay.

When did you feel "normal" again?

Hmm, that is something that just gets better as you heal. 3 months is the first turning point, and that is when I had few issues, although I never really had the issues you have. Then 6 months things are really different, then 9. At a year I feel completely normal except with less capacity. Yesterday I wanted to finish a Protein shake so I could throw it in the dumpster before getting in my car and I was able to drink a whole premier shake in about 2-3 minutes. Right after surgery it would have taken me 2 hours.

    Name your fave Football snacks

Water. Seriously when there are things and people are snacking or whatever which for us is GRAZING. I drink water, at the movies, at the bar, at concerts, at sporting events. Water. I chug it. It is the perfect time to get extra water in and water is calorie free. I sometimes get fancy and have unsweetened coffee or tea. I eat before, and I plan on eating after. I also keep a protein bar in my purse for an emergency if I go more than 3 hours with eating. Since the Bears are the Bears, not eating also helps keep my stomach from going in virtual knots

    Considering surgery

@@Rycaitsmom If your co-workers had surgery covered through insurance then you should be good. Wash U has an extensive weight loss program, that involves a lot of behavioral changes. I think if you are serious about being healthy for life, they are a good way to go, even with the longer wait. If I had the time last year I would have probably went with them, but I work with a different University for my follow up care. Des Peres has a program which is who I went with. Some of the doctors have left (one went to teach at a University), and I am not sure what the exact status of their program is now.

How do I know when I am full?

@@jatmagg The goal isn't t be full. Once you accidently get full on solids, the discomfort will probably make it so you don't want to try again. This might be a fun little 5 minute test for y'all.

Always the same over the years.... ENTJ (Extraverted Intuitive Thinking Judging) As an ENTJ, your primary mode of living is focused externally, where you deal with things rationally and logically. Your secondary mode is internal, where you take things in primarily via your intuition. ENTJs are natural born leaders. They live in a world of possibilities where they see all sorts challenges to be surmounted, and they want to be the ones responsible for surmounting them. They have a drive for leadership, which is well-served by their quickness to grasp complexities, their ability to absorb a large amount of impersonal information, and their quick and decisive judgments. They are "take charge" people. ENTJs are very career-focused, and fit into the entrepreneurial world quite naturally. They are constantly scanning their environment for potential problems which they can turn into solutions. They generally see things from a long-range perspective, and are usually successful at identifying plans to turn problems around - especially problems of a corporate nature. ENTJs are usually successful in the business world, because they are so driven to leadership. They're tireless in their efforts on the job, and driven to visualize where an organization is headed. ENTJ Strengths Efficient – ENTJs see inefficiency not just as a problem in its own right, but as something that pulls time and energy away from all their future goals, an elaborate sabotage consisting of irrationality and laziness. People with the ENTJ personality type will root out such behavior wherever they go. Energetic – Rather than finding this process taxing ENTJs are energized by it, genuinely enjoying leading their teams forward as they implement their plans and goals. Self-Confident – ENTJs couldn't lead if they were plagued by self-doubt. Instead, they trust their abilities, make known their opinions, and believe in their capacities as leaders. Strong-Willed – ENTJs don't give up when the going gets tough – ENTJ personalities strive to achieve their goals, but really nothing is quite as satisfying to them as rising to the challenge of each obstacle in their run to the finish line. Strategic Thinkers – ENTJs exemplify the difference between moment-to-moment crisis management and navigating the challenges and steps of a bigger plan, and are known for examining every angle of a problem and not just resolving momentary issues, but moving the whole project forward with their solutions. Charismatic and Inspiring – These qualities combine to create individuals who are able to inspire and invigorate others, who people actually want to be their leaders, and this in turn helps ENTJs to accomplish their often ambitious goals that could never be finished alone. ENTJ Weaknesses Stubborn and Dominant – Sometimes the ENTJ's confidence and willpower can go too far. ENTJs are all too capable of digging in their heels, trying to win every single debate and pushing their vision, and theirs alone. Intolerant – "It's my way or the highway." People with the ENTJ personality type are notoriously unsupportive of any idea that distracts from their primary goals, and even more so of ideas based on emotional considerations. ENTJs won't hesitate a second to make that fact clear to those around them. Impatient – Some people need more time to think than others, and this is an intolerable delay to quick-thinking ENTJs. They may misinterpret contemplation as stupidity or disinterest in their haste which is a terrible mistake for a leader to make. Arrogant – ENTJ personalities respect quick thoughts and firm convictions (which mirror their own qualities), and look down on those who don't match up. This relationship is a challenge for most other personality types. Poor Handling of Emotions – All this bluster, alongside the assumed supremacy of rationalism, makes ENTJs distant from their own emotional expression and sometimes downright scornful of others'. People with this personality type often trample other's feelings, inadvertently hurting their partners and friends, especially in emotionally charged situations. Cold and Ruthless – Their obsession with efficiency and unwavering belief in the merits of rationalism, especially professionally, makes ENTJs incredibly insensitive in pursuing their goals, dismissing personal circumstances, sensitivities, and preferences as irrational and irrelevant. Famous ENTJ's Napoleon Bonaparte Julius Caesar Aristotle Adele Carl Sagan George Clooney Career Choices Business Executive Organization Builder Entrepreneur Computer Consultant Lawyer Judge Business Administrator Business Manager University Professor ENTJ In Summary ... Frank, decisive, assume leadership readily. Quickly see illogical and inefficient procedures and policies, develop and implement comprehensive systems to solve organizational problems. Enjoy long-term planning and goal setting. Usually well informed, well read, enjoy expanding their knowledge and passing it on to others. Forceful in presenting their ideas.

Bananas are NOT a low carb food

Unfortunately, it's not that simplistic of an issue. I think that's the OP's whole point. Basically. I didn't think so many people would instantly equate oreos as being equal to bananas, which is the most simplistic assumption. The idea that so many people would want to debate facts and numbers is baffling to me. This is a nutrition topic, about low carb fruit choices. Not a debate about if science is witch craft. Bananas are not the devil, but if you are post-op and trying to follow a low carb diet, they are not a low carb fruit. I am not even going to get into the physics and mass of mashing food because that seems to be beyond the scope of conversation here.

What are the kitchen must haves?

A scale and one that you can zero out amounts. I use my scale for almost everything and it saves on dishes with using measuring spoons. Lost and confused

3 -5 bites could be anything. That is not a scientific measurement or something that is the same from person to person. Everyone has a different capacity and that even varies day by day and with the moisture content of the food. Just follow your plan and don't compare yourself to other people, you have no idea what they are actually doing, just what they are reporting.
