    previous abdominal surgeries

I have had 2 c sections and a previous exploratory laparoscopy as well as endometriosis. I did get a warning from the nurse about how unpredictable scar tissue could be and that the doctor would not perform the surgery if it is unsafe when he got in there. Good luck!

    Hello

I am lucky enough to have the first spot on my day. Arrival time 5:30am surgery to begin at 7:30. I agree early is best. Anytime I have had surgery I always ask to be first case. Good luck to you!
  4. Both of the surgical groups near me no longer perform this year procedure. More problems than good. I also didn't like he thought of needing constant adjustments where someone needs to stick a needle in my abdomen. Also a port in my stomach, I'm trying to get rid of lumps in at area, not add a new one. Good luck with your decision and surgery.
  5. I have been advised on a liver reduction diet which is proteins, veggies and fruit only for 1 month prior. Nothing to eat or drink after midnight the night before. No week of protein shakes or clear liquids prior either. Bottom line is every surgeon has different guidelines based on their experience. Good luck!

    Looking for preop friends :)

Hi I'm Jenn. Pre op sleeve and my surgery date is September 14th. I live in Door County Wisconsin, it's pretty rural so not a lot of resources. I enjoy reading what is going on with people who are having similar experiences to mine. I don't yet have any "friends" on here and would welcome any conversation. Good luck to you all!
  7. I am terrified of failure. That I won't be able to do it and will have wasted all that money. I am also scared of hair loss. I have fine hair already and hair is important!! Also afraid of being nauseated or vomiting.
  8. Any nurses out there pre or post op want to share their stories? I am a nurse and am a little apprehensive to share too much at work for the fear of being judged. These days there are more and more fat nurses and majority of my coworkers are super fit and have impeccable eating habits and cannot relate with my struggles. Any stories or suggestions would be appreciated.
  9. Thank you for sharing. I am planning surgery for this September 14th and I really don't have high expectations. I am so used to failing in this area of my life I really have no idea what it is like to feel all of the things people talk about here. Congratulations and you look fabulous! Hope to feel as good as you do someday!

CPAP Machine. I have no love for it.

I have never had any trouble but a respiratory therapist recommended Ayr gel applied inside your nostrils. You can get it over the counter. I got some at Walmart but never actually use it. You could also try increasing the humidity to see if that helps.

    Calling all nurses!

Thanks everyone for the kind words. I work in a small facility and the nearest hospital with a program is 1.5 hours away so it's certainly not common for people to see. I feel that being a well educated health care provider I should be able to do this the "right" way. So I have some guilt about that. I just really need some help to get on the right track.

    Calling all nurses!

Laura I just scheduled surgery for September 14th. Thanks for replying!
  13. Shopping in regular stores is certainly at the top of the list. I also really don't like looking at my face anymore because all I see is "fat face". Waaaaay too many chins. I am a nurse and I feel like coworkers, doctors and patients are judging me all of the time. We all deal with our demons in different ways. I just want to feel better. Inside and out.
  14. September 14th is the big day! Lots of appointments between now and then. This is the first time of seems real! Here we go!

    Cold

I am preop so I can't wait to be cold! I am so tired of being hot and sweaty all of the time.

CPAP Machine. I have no love for it.

An autopap machine is easier. I use the nasal pillows too and find them more tolerable than anything else. They are less restrictive. I have never used it but I know my machine has a setting called "ramp" that gradually leads up to the pressure you need. Make sure you communicate with your equipment provider. They may be able to help adjust at settings or try different masks u till you are more comfortable. Don't give up! Just think maybe some day you can los enough to ditch the thing!
