Surgery approval, How long did it take for you to get your insurance approval?
Teesaa replied to byebyefat's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Mine was submitted on August 6th. I called the insurance today for status and was told it was still being reviewed. The agent said I would get a response in 35 business days. -
One week post op - things I've come to know

So glad you have it over you and are on the mend. I will keep your advice in mind when my time comes. I'm waiting for a response from the insurance and it is is like watching paint dry!! It went in August 6th. I called the insurance company today and they are telling me 35 business days for response . Ugh!!! The doctors office told me 10 days. It is so frustrating. Anyway keep up the good work. I bought the big book a couple of months ago. I also bought "the emotional first aid kit-a practical guide to life after bariatric surgery. Both full of valuable information. -

Thanks for checking in. My application for approval was sent to the insurance last Thursday. My coordinator says 5-10 days. It had to go two two insurance companies. United health care and BCBS. So I wait. Trying to keep busy. -

I believe this surgery may even help my Autoimmune disease. I am waiting every day for news from the coordinator to confirm that she has sent it to the insurance for approval but so far no news. Maybe tomorrow. -

I know exactly how you feel. I am also 58 yrs old, confident one minute and terrified the next. I worry constantly about the healing process as I have an autoimmune disease which may result in slower healing. Its getting real now as my coordinator is submitting my papers to insurance this week. But i know this is 100% the right thing to do and I have great confidence in my surgeon. -
Wonderful news. ???? It will be here before you know it. I think mine is going in to the insurance company next week. I hope I get an answer as quick. Mine hinges on if they will accept 2 years of weight watchers with doctors notes. If mine is successful I think I will be with you in August. Keep you posted.

Good luck. I hope you get a prompt answer from the insurance. Keep you posted.

How long are you waiting for answer?

Thank you for the advice. Luckily I had a lot of my medical records. I compiled a weight history chart plus what I call my medical resume. As I went along I brought both records to each doctor I needed medical clearance from. I have my next nutritionist visit on Friday. there is a hold up with doing a sleep Apnia test. I went to the doctor two weeks ago he wanted to repeat I hope I have an answer by early August.

WLS WEIGHT MANAGEMENT - SLEEVE GASTRECTOMY
Teesaa replied to MrsSugarbabe's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Great information. Thanks for sharing -
Last week I got a call from my coordinator stating NY SHIP Empire BCBS Insurance changed last month. BMC you knew before they did!! Six months supervised diet is now part of the requirement. They are going to try and submit weight watchers documentation with notes from my regular doctors visits to see if that will suffice. Doctors visits were at least every three months for the last three years. The weight watchers documentation is about 1 + 1/2 years out of the last 2 years. If not, its looks like a December date for me. I'm doing a whole load of medical tests right now so after my July visit with nutritionist they will submit it to the insurance company.

Surgeon Recommendations for NY/NJ area
Teesaa replied to rg2688's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
Hello fellow Rocklander, I'm using Dr Cerabona at westchester medical. I choose him because two of my specialist recommended him. I would recommend where ever you go make sure it's a center of excellence. I'm not far into the process. I met him last week. I liked him a lot. Just saw the nutritionist and getting all my medical visits and tests done. Good luck to you. -

I choose the sleeve as I have medical issues and need to take medicine even after WLS. Don't want malabsorption with medicines. -
Contemplating not having the surgery because I like to party?
Teesaa replied to lexiss22's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I think Debbieduck4 is correct. You should talk to a councilor about your concerns. My advice is don't choose alcohol over your health. Best of luck to you on your journey. -
I must meet the criteria as I met with the surgeon and his staff on friday. And they told me all going well with clearances and pre ops I could have the surgery by mid to late August. The first visit to the surgeons office was a good experience. I feel I am in good hands but I am both terrified and excited.

Thanks for the update on NYSHIP. I wasn't expecting 6 months. I am disappointed as I specifically asked if there were any other requirements beside a letter if medical necessity and they said no. This was only 3-4 weeks ago!! I guess it is what it is. I still have to follow the road..... and focus on what I have to do.

Yes confusing for you and so frustrating. I believe Insurance companies make people jump through so many hoops to put them off following through with surgery. Good luck on the 29th.

I have NYSHIP Empire. I am going for my first appointment on friday 6/12. I called the insurance company directly and they stated all I needed was a letter of medical necessity. My doctor also has his minimum requirements. Referral from PCP, Psychiatric, Pulmonary, and Cardiac clearance. Plus 2 months minimum nutritional counseling. Wish me luck!!
