  1. I am 8 months out from my sleeve surgery and have had two really bad gallbladder attacks (at least from what I've read they are textbook gall bladder attacks). I know this is common with large weight loss. I lost 80 pounds and made goal in January. The first one scared me but the second one was worse. Luckily by the time I realized that I needed to get to a hospital, the pain subsided. I did so well with my WLS, hardly had any pain at all, but I'm not looking forward to this. I am going to Doctor this week. Anyone else have to go through this? Is the surgery/healing process similar to the sleeve surgery?

  3. Ditto - except for $220.00 because the psychologies didn't take insurance and his fee was lower than my deductible so I didn't even submit it.
  4. Your story is touching. I also have three grown sons and my heart breaks for him, for you and your family. Please be sure to take care of yourself. Prayers for you all.
  5. I was concerned how I would be able to handle my first vacation after being sleeved. Just got back yesterday and I have to say it was a success. We do enjoy eating out on vacation and we still did eat out a lot, but I was very careful with my choices. I ate chicken but when I got bored with that, I had spare ribs (could only eat two); smoked turkey; steak; and grilled shrimp - all in very small portions. I ordered the smallest portions I could (sometimes ordering off the appetizer menu). I listened to my stomach and stopped as soon as I felt that restriction. I did walk at least four miles everyday on the beach. We were also with my sister and her husband and she had a harder time with what I was eating. She kept saying she felt bad for me because I couldn't eat much, but I kept telling her don't feel bad for me because I don't feel bad and I do feel good about myself. The truth is I did miss eating all the usual vacation type foods a bit - ice cream, alcohol, chocolate, Italian food etc. but I am down 40 pounds and as they say - nothing tastes as good as being thin feels. But I only missed the foods for the moment, once that passed, I felt good about my choices. It also felt good that I was able to wear clothes on my vacation that I hadn't fit into in years. I still felt self-conscious in a bathing suit, but that is my insecurity. I hope that once I am down to my goal weight (40 pounds to go) I will be able to occasionally enjoy some treats. For now I feel good, I am thrilled with my progress and am looking forward to many more vacations with my newer slimmer body! Thanks for all your support!
  6. when was your surgey? My surgery was June 12.

    Timeline

I was quick - only 9 weeks. I worked my butt off to get all my appointments in. Luckily I had an understanding boss and I scheduled most of my appointments either first thing in the morning or as late in the afternoon to minimize my time off. I did need a couple of days off? I took off for my colonoscopy and endoscope done at same time as I was overdue for the colonoscopy. I was very focused and persistent about getting everything done.

    wave of pressure..?

Did you also have a hiatal hernia repair. For the first two weeks post op I had what I described as spasms and my doc told me it was from the hernia repair. It went away and I feel great.

    June 2015 sleevers

Hi all - I was sleeved on June 12 and started at 213 and I'm 5'1". I lost 10 pounds on the one week pre op liquid died and 19 pounds since then for a total of 29 pounds. I feel good and my clothes are loose but I found that I haven't gone down a size yet. Im trying to exercise more but sprained my ankle so having a hard time with that. My hardest challenge is that I am such a picky eater. I do not like fish of any kind or nuts or cheese. So my choices for protein are limited. But all in all I'm so happy with my decision to do this and proud of my progress.

    June Sleevers!

I am just over 3 weeks out and I met with my NUT last week. I had gone back to work last Monday and had bad stomach ache all day Monday and Tuesday. My NUT pointed out that maybe I was having too much dairy and that was the answer. I was drinking yogurt shakes and eating yogurt for snack and lunch bc it was convenient for lunch at work and it had lots of protein. I had been drinking lots of protein shakes but with almond milk that doesn't have any lactose so that didn't bother me. Now I feel great. My NUT also told me to start eating regular foods. Yeah. I can actually chew food. I made chili and put it into small containers. I had a tiny bit of London broil yesterday. I cut into really small pieces and chewed it to death and it was fine. Today I had some chicken and the same thing. Real food with real taste! Yeah me!
  11. I was worried also. Every surgeon is different but mine had me on all liquid diet 7 days before scheduled surgery date. But I was so ready to begin the process and the week flew by that it didn't bother me. It's all worth it in the end. And I agree that this site up is invaluable in answering questions and for support! Good luck on your journey!
  12. My breath is the worst. I can't stand myself and my husband keeps saying "what smells like sh*t?" Lol!
  13. I'm only 2 weeks out and just started mushy foods. But today my husband and I met some friends at a lobster festival down the Jersey Shore. It was difficult to see everyone enjoying all that good food and not be able to eat. I just kept sipping my water. I know it will all be worth it. I came hope and ate my refried beans (for the first time). They were DELICIOUS,
  14. I had my sleeve on June 12 and I am so glad I did this! Here are my notes so far: June 5 - Pre op weight 213 and 5'1" June 12 - Date of surgery weight 203 Current weight 195 I had minimal pain after surgery. Only needed Tylenol. Not a minute of nausea. I guess I was on an adrenalin high due to feeling so good the first few days but had difficulty getting in the Protein. Not bc of pain, but just bc I was scared of siping too fast and getting sick. Then it hit me. All of a sudden I was very weak and had no energy. Dr said I needed to stay out of work an extra week. (I had only planned one week off.) He me to concentrate on getting my protein in. He was right. He gave me some tips to get more protein in and it worked. I haven't felt hungry in my tummy. Of course sitting home all day and watching all the shows that feature food and the commercials make he head hungry - Damn you Rachel Ray! Lol! I'm really tired of the Protein shakes but doctoring them up to add flavor. I haven't had much broth or ice pops bc I feel I only want to have drinks that have protein and don't want to fill up on non Protein Drinks and have no room for the protein . Father's Day was difficult bc I haven't told too many people about my surgery, but everyone was so busy eating, no one really noticed that I wasn't. The food did look good though. Trying to remember not to gulp Water is really hard. I have been so of the mentality to drink water that I guzzled it all the time just to get it in. I have to reverse that thinking and just sip sip sip. That is very hard for me. I think that the liquid part, although hard has made it easier to stay focused bc I don't have to make any decisions about what I'm going to eat (or very limited choices anyway). I think it will be harder when I have to make decisions about what I eating like turkey breast or a hamburger. But I know I can do this! We all can! Thanks for listening. This site has been invaluable to me in getting through all this. I am gladly on the losers bench.

    Too Pooped to Post!

I had a hernia repair as well. I am now 12 days out. It felt like spasms right in the middle of my breastbone. When the pain would come, it would take my breath away for about 20 seconds and then go away. It lasted till just a couple of days ago. The doctor had told me it could take up to two weeks to go away. Good luck!

My Experiences - 12 Days Out

thanks ShrinkingPeach. That's good to know.
  17. Hopefulmom76 I agree with you. I am 11 days out and I can only get half a Protein shake down at a time. I have been concentrating on that rather than to have Soup because I don't want to fill up on soup and have no room for the protein. I try to get 1/2 protein shake for each Breakfast lunch and dinner with water in between and some times a protein/yogurt drink. I have a hard time remembering just to sip everything. If I don't sip, it either comes out the other end (sorry) or I get a stomach ache. Anybody else have this problem?

    Chest pain when swallowing

I feel exactly the same thing 3 days out. I figured it must be the hernia repair also.

    1 day Post-Op yea!

HealthyJudy - I had my surgery on Friday and I took all next week off. I have an office job but I do get up and down a lot. But with the two weekends I'll be 11 days out before I go back. I think that will be fine for me. Right now I am having trouble getting water down. I force myself to take a couple of sips every 15 min.

    1 day Post-Op yea!

I also got sleeved yesterday. This has been much easier that I thought. I know they gave me a pain med In recovery, but since then I have only taken Tylenol. I only had 4 incisions so that is probably in my favor. I got home this afternoon and a taking it slow. Took a nice nap this afternoon. I am trying to get down an orange protein shack now. Hopefully with some protein in me I won't feel so sluggish. Good luck all!
  21. I'm on day six of my all liquid pre op diet. My surgery is Friday. I'm doing surprisingly well. Not hungry at all. I am having 3 Baritrac protein shakes a day made with unsweetened almond milk. Regular milk gives me an upset stomach. I have had broth a couple of nights and an ice pop or two each day. I thought I would have major headaches but only had a few that Tylenol worked on. Good luck!

    Waiting for the call

My surgery is Friday June 12 and I just got the call yesterday (Friday June 5) from my insurance company that I was approved. I was a little worried.

    June Sleevers!

My surgery is June 12 - one week from tomorrow. But I still haven't got final approval from my insurance. I'm a little worried but dr office said it will be fine. I hope they are right. I'm so psyched up. Start my pre op diet in the morning. Only liquids for the next week. I'm just going to try to keep busy all week. Hopefully the week will pass quickly and my approval will come through. I have my fingers (and everything else) crossed.
